@MrHarlemworld BMW changed xDrive from a four wheel drive system, with an open 38/62 center differential, to a rear drive PTO(power take off)system-mechanically rear drive with a clutch pack to power the front axle. The benefits are better tuneability of chassis/drivetrain interaction. When the car is understeering, drive the front is reduced, when oversteering more power is sent to the front.

Better traction when a wheel is airborn (which stymies TorSen Quattro)

More consistent steering feel.
