  • I think the song is also about being generally depressed because of being "lost in" trying to find meaning in a world that was promised to be fruitful and rewarding ("the supermarket")

  • London Calling is such a FUCKING UNBELIEVABLY GREAT album. It just gets better and better as the years continue to roll on by. We're so lucky to have had their music to listen to in our lifetimes. LONG LIVE THE CLASH!

  • So, I'm the dude in the wig. Over the holidays I was reminded of this video and was inspired to look it up youtube. It really affected me and just reading through the comments section made me realize EXACTLY what this song is about. I want to thank everyone who gave this video a thumbs down and posted there thoughts. I still listen to this album and am still blown away by it's message.

  • man being a kid in the grocery store was the shit... everything was an adventure back then ...

  • And I thought my parents sucked, wow.

  • Muito bom esse som, minha professora de inglês que é britânica me mostrou essa musica. Mais algum brasileiro ai?

  • I work in a supermarket, sing this all the time,,,,,I need help HAHAHA Love the song...

  • What a horrible parent/guardian

  • @Tolirium TOTALLY, i agree, leavin thier child in the supermarket

  • I was told by someones dad that this song was about getting really high and going to the supermarket, he might have been "wrong", but I like it.

  • I find the people not liking this vid to be rather shallow. Yeah the song isn't REALLY about a supermarket & being lost in it. We all know that (I hope we do), but you also don't know what is supposed to be happening in the kid's head. He could feel this way.

My friend and I call this the deepest song ever, & it is, but these thoughts could catch anyone ever. Now trim the hedges, do the sprinkler, and start the lawn mower. If you don't understand that, you aren't punk enough to say anything.

  • Not trying to argue but this is a poor effort, this video fucking sucks.

  • this is not 1979

London Calling was released in london in 1979

  • Regardless of the misinterpretation, it's a good quality music video for something made my amateurs.

  • Nice job! I linked to your video in a post I wrote about a grocery store challenge I did: Grocery store serendipity on (Don't Be) Too Timid and Squeamish.

  • you do realize the song isnt about being lost in a supermarket, yeah?

  • Haha that little kid...he's in my drama class lol its on his facebook xD ...yah hes super hot now lol :p

  • @preetymonster421 I'd bet he'd love for you to tell him that. Post that comment on his Facebook,

  • I believe is other tough. It's about people losing identity when go to spend money without control.

  • 150 people have never been lost in a supermarket

  • This is awesome. I actually work at an Albertsons as a courtesy clerk (I'm sixteen) in Arizona and I just so happen to be a Clash fan. I was just joking the other day that this should be my theme song. I just wanted to listen to this song and this video comes up that so happens to be filmed in the shit hole I work at. Very cool.

  • Vão todos você chuparem rola!!!!

É apenas um garoto com uma puta cara de viado fazendo um video com o irmão.

  • the rythm section is incredible in this song. That shit sounds as tight as a 8 years old girl's pussy, lmao

  • Mi preferida de The Clash ;)

  • me recuerdo cuando voy al supermercado con mi hermano chico

  • cool video mate dont listen to these wankers :)

  • Lol, i cant understand how can a bunch of loosers complain about some child "idea" to make a video from a song they liked, far away from the real content on the lyrics, they are kids.

    Faggots

  • That kids a baws at tying his laces.

  • @thewatcheroutoftime Ok you're are obviously the idiot who is too obsessed with The Clash. If you haven't already noticed, most music videos are quite literal. Most of the time the mirror the literal meaning of the song and leave the symbolic meaning for the listener/viewer to understand.

Maybe you would like to make another music video that mirrors the real meaning?

  • Comment removed

  • haha yeah this song is about the alienation and emptiness at the core of superficial suburban life not some kid having fun making a video to a song he thinks sounds cool what the fuck was he thinking.

  • @BOKNOWSCOMPUTERS

Who cares? Yeah, that's what the songs about, also about commercialism and such things.

But as its a SONG, it's an art form, people can interpret however they please, that's what songs are for.

If a kid is having fun doing a video for the Clash from a generation who is years ahead of this band, Joe Strummer couldn't care less what this video is, he's just be damn proud and happy that people still listen to his music and have fun doing so.,

  • @Shenanigans07

    good point well-made

  • Guys, who cares about the music video????? The Clash are fucking brilliant like this song :D

  • I really thought it was cool that my ex-gf's little sister was singing this song, but I didn't think it was that cool when I learned she learned it from Over The Hedge. To her this song is just about little woodland animals in the suburbs, but at that age, I'm just going to let her have her fun.

  • ive always loved this song pretty much just as a good song, but i know its metaphorical for something, can anyone explain it please?

  • The Clash were way ahead of there time.Brillant lyrics, great music for the time and most of it has stood the test of time.

So many tracks are used in movies etc, that tells you theres still widespread appeal

This will ALWAYS BE MY FAVOURITE.Reminds me of my teens growing up listening to Dammed,S.L.F.etc.

Anyone that doesnt like this track @ Album does not appreciate how much of a genius these guys were both recording and especially live.

Miss this quality with all the sad mince we now get

  • Em, almost fingerless. but not quite, obviously.from viewing this video - well it spits on a track I have loved (and understood btw) for the best part of 30 years now. I just think that I would like to give the video zero points.

  • This will ALWAYS BE MY FAVOURITE.Reminds me of my teens growing up listening to Dammed,S.L.F etc.

  • The "father figure" and the guy working at the deli are the same guy

  • I don't get it? Why would a parent forget his/her child? srsly....

  • i think it s quite cool that the video uses the shallow meaning of the song.It is obvious that there is a deeper one but that s how art is.The important things have to be felt, not seen

  • What means this song? The meaning of the lyrics

  • Thx guys... requiescat in pace - gratias vobis ago, pueri...

  • stupid kid cant tie a fukn shoe

  • But doesn't this just prove that everybody can have their own take on the song, so even if they take it literally they can still agree that it is a great song. You can understand and care as little as you want, the fact that you fucking dig The Clash is what counts.

  • @iAreCuteKitten No you can't have your own take. The literal take is just for thickies.

  • @socialsatirist

Well sure it's for thickies but technically that is what it means, too.

  • guys chill it's just some dude and his kid you don't have to prosecute them lol

  • Because we all clicked on the link to a Clash song to watch the video, right? Audio's good, that's all I care about.

  • ok, at first i didnt know what the song really meant but i knew it was metaphorical with the hole supermarket thing

  • essa musik e foda

  • video is about ten times too literal don't you think? just get stock footage of business blokes in suits some dodgey 80s ads and a close up of some smashed coca coca bottle..job done

  • been singin' this all day....luv it!

  • So funny, you junt don't understand what this song is about, what a shame couse it's a brillian song!

  • lol at the 2 highest rated comments, so true!

  • xelente !!!!!!!!!!!! tio...

  • @choclitmidnite Dude why do you buy into that b.s.? He is not a great vocalist and in NO way a "genius". Actually if he convinced millions of people he is, maybe he is for that reason alone. You want to talk about music videos? Why do people worship a skinny Englishman dancing like Ellen DeGenres in his latest? Radiohead makes my skin crawl the way Justin Beiber may make yours. I think he is exactly the same as Beiber, just for coffee house artsy fartsy rather than Disney drop outs. Whatev

  • I don't know if this is the original comment but somewhere someone said they made this video for a school project so this is not an official video..

  • OK it's not the message, but it's quite original. Why bother?

  • Like others have said this song has nothing to do with supermarkets or being lost in them. It's about how the world is rapidly becoming more commercialized.

  • it was nice to go to the supermarket in the 80s when there were cool things to buy like food that tasted good not coffee flavored popcorn like they sell now.

never heard this song until the 21st century. great song.

  • this is stupid, who forgets thr kid, atleast whn he got to the car he should hav figured out he wasnt thr !

  • hope the kid found his way out....he looks lost in the supermarket....wish Joe was still here...

  • the bass in this song is amazing

  • I love the Clash. Why can't todays rock be funky like they were. Radiohead SUCKS. Fight the power always !!!!

  • daamn how long ago did u make this they still had the old MGD boxes

  • god what an uninspired video

  • "I came in here for that special offer, GUARANTEED personality... I'm all lost."

  • Corporate straitjacket smothering individuality under the illusion of freedom and liberty. Radical and very relevant message.

  • maybe he knew what the song meant, but decided to make this video for fun... calm down u jerks!

  • You win at not understanding the song!

  • @eastweymouthchris the audio is superb so who gives a shit!

  • dreams are free mothe-fers

  • Video's that mimic the songs meaning are boring and patronising.

  • thats one teriible guardian... driving away like that

  • you don't get it, do you? i mean the meaning of this song and what the clash stood for. to the person that uploaded this video to this song.

  • did they realize that this song is actually about existential despair caused by the loss of identity and disillusionment from suburban living and the supermarket is a metaphor for modern life in which the speaker is lost?

  • Come on, the fact that someone made a video that literally suits song title doesn't mean that person doesn't know and understand the true message of this song. Geez, chill

  • What country is this supermarket from ?

  • I have never seen such a gross misinterpretation of a song in my entire life. When I first heard this song thirty years ago, it gave me chills. All these years later, it's been dumbed down to a Home Alone video.

  • @BookerBird66

hahaha, this is like the funniest comment i've seen on youtube for years! 'dumbed down to a Home Alone video' hahahaa

  • @BookerBird66 no, man, it's still a great song.

  • Google ... "THC Cures Cancer"

  • Not LITERALLY lost, it's a metaphor. What a disappointing video.

  • This video IS hogwash and tagging it as a Music Video IS scam.

  • This video IS hogwash!

  • Lost in the supermarket anyway...

  • i can believe joe got lost in the supermarket. he got lost all the time when i was with him. ok i help get us lost a lot of the time.

  • Cool!!

  • are you in Publix???i never wanna see theh name of that store again, i hated Florida idiotic place

  • I'm going to sing this song every time I go shopping now :D

  • AHA! the dude dont give a fuck about his kid

  • These kids did not make a lame video to Lincoln Park or som s*#t so let's give tham props. Good effort. Well done. Amazing album

  • the parent looks like a chemically dumbed down tard.

  • is that a wig LOOOOOOOL

  • Who just leaves their kid in the store? Yes, that is how I commented on this video.

  • funny old footage...where is it? could be anywhere...

  • I would have kind of liked to have seen more of the consumerism and loneliness that this song is about portrayed/ illustrated but thats just me other than that: GREAT, BRILLIANT VIDEO. I liked the general idea of it, you have some good shots and its pretty well filmed. The worst video on youtube is quiet a stretch, this video is in fact a success, you did fairly well what you set out to do. Its good to see younger people getting down on the clash, is that your buddy in the bakery?

  • This is alternative-postpunk

  • im all lost in the supermarket, i can no longer shop happily

weetabix on special offer..no longer for, for free ♫♪

    x

  • I GOT LOST IN THE GATORADE AISLE MAYNE!

  • if he was my dad i would kick his ass what a motherfucker looks like that aswell. and by the way you took one of the best songs ever and most one of the worst video of all time.

  • this is some mother fucking lame ass corny ass bullshit...& @toiletduck23 what the fuck makes you think this is joe strummer?? & no its not cool

  • @rchairez88 Stupid twat, it's taken off london calling by THE CLASH!

  • This song is from -79, video is about from 2005. Cant you see that. Great song!

  • Is this the original video? is that Joe Strummer with his Kid? never seen this before...cool..

  • cool vid :) that boy is so cute

  • best 'punk' album ever

    i often whistle this in sainsbury's :)

  • quick fix.... minimize window and just listen. someone needs to call child services.

  • Ever since Klausewitz sent a Special Offer Discount coupon for Cheese Twistees to the curators of Napoleon's tomb, I haven't been able to eat my Love(TM pending) breakfast cereal @ only $9.99 a packet - I emote The Clash.

  • just lose the video .

    yourcrazy certo

    fongool.....

  • Quite possibly one of my top 10 favorite tracks of all time. It's too bad talent is such a rarity these days. Back in their day musical talent was abundant but it's been severely depleted. It seems like music is a way for stupid people to make money these days rather then having artists express themselves.

  • this vid is just shit!!!! the message of this song is just so important! this is an insult.

it's rubbish and stupid. RIP THE CLASH.

  • @reallyfeelful oh all y'all are way over reacting yes there is an obvious metaphor in the song but you can take it literaly if you want to thats the point of a double meaning there is no right way to interperate it. It's a smart metaphor and in my opinion a hillarious song as well as a deppresing one, The Clash didn't take them selves so seriously that they couldn't laugh get a sense of humor.

  • @reallyfeelful yeah, right

  • @reallyfeelful its a disgrace

  • @reallyfeelful the video is a metaphor, just like the words of the song :0

  • @andressaruela Knowing the story of the Clash, I believe this song is much stronger and deeper than a metaphor... But that's my personal opinion ;)

  • i only watched 5 seconds of this, and in order to keep the clash alive in me im not gonna finish it. Thanks for fucking up the clash buddy.

  • I was never really into the clash, but then again I never really listened to them. i can say that after finding this song and listening to it fully through, I've found a great band I've should've listened to when I first heard their name.

  • the best video on youtube top class

  • music is subjective, enjoy it, take from it what you will, my views are not yours and so on....one of the biggest mind fucks was the creation of the music video, took away some peoples ability to just use their imagination....

  • At least their being positive, retard

  • ur not saposed to take it literaly smart one

  • "It's a metaphor for suburban life. He's saying that growing up in the suburbs can lead to a kind of identity crisis because basically when you live there you have no identity(according to him, that is)."

"I think this song was commenting on commercialism. with the lines "I've got my giant hit discoteque album" and "I can no longer shop happily" he seems to be unhappy with how commercial everything seems. but then it also has a strong theme of loneliness."

    ^some comments on songmeanings.

  • what a dumass. who sleeps in the dogfood section anymore? thats so last year. now its all about the toilet paper section

  • There must be a video of some fool painting a giant canvas black to the Stones' 'Paint It Black' somewhere, if this nonsense is here.

    Marvelous song scat upon.

  • great song

  • i get lost in the supermarket when im stoned

  • This is a GREAT VIDEO! I like that it is filmed in a Supermarket. It is neat that you literally interpreted the song. The boy really seemed to be Lost in the Supermarket.

    It is really creative. :)

  • @KatzeMPDX1984Canada hows it creative if they just interpreted the song literally?

  • 0:35-0:41 is how i check if apples are ripe =]

    too literally interpertation though

  • Great song! first song´s that i listening clash when i was 7 years =)

  • I never thought about ever being "lost" in a supermarket listening to this song.

  • I think it's a clever idea- albeit not an original idea (e.g. the "Home Alone" movies). It holds a parallel to this song; in this case, the boy is literally "lost in a supermarket" the song itself is using the title as a metaphor to show an escape from the "outside world". The best way to view this video is not to delve in too deep. It's the only video I've seen here that covers the entire track. No matter what, the song still holds out. Also, Mick Jones does a rare lead vocal on this one.

  • this song is bomb.

  • Awesome sound quality. Nice video too. I liked it. Cheers.

  • It's supposed to be a literal interpretation you assholes.

  • i love the kid xD jjaja azucar!

  • What is this crap? Please remove this video. You have disgraced a great song which you do not understand!

  • come on man respect the fucking music please. at least put your own cover up.

  • This was playing when I was in a Safeway once

Completely not what the song is about but its still one of my favorite moments in my life.

  • this video sucks but of course its got music from the clash thats the only reason to watch it

  • friend BP on youtube add?

    are you fucking kidding me?

those fuckin scum should be executed

  • I like the video with the kid. Nice interpretation, and I really identify with him just not knowing what is going on in the grown up world.

  • I don' care wah anu ones says. this is gud music. " I wasn't born so much as fell out"

  • o jaaaa xD nie wierzę! ma takiego samego konia jak J. Rutowicz xD buahaha

  • LOL this is bad parenting

  • love this song!!

  • haha that always happens to me

  • Far too many respondents are taking up their/our time by discussing things which have nothing whatsoever to do with the song. The song is in your head. Is the song good or bad? How do you relate to it? The video is NOT The Clash. Get past it.

It was among my first revelations into the depth of the allbum when I first heard. It was SOOOOO melodic, with such sweet harmonies...from a band that was so cutting edge edgey... I was amazed!

  • Maybe the video is deliberately ironic in the neo-classic, post-modern sense...

  • Fuck me! So many people being so serious about this post. Calm down and enjoy the music :o)

  • It's not really about the supermarket. It's about consumerism and losing yourself in the pursuit of things and how modern day society creates isolation instead of community. (I empty a bottle, I feel a bit free) Or..hell, I dunno maybe it's about getting lost in one of those Big Box stores , damn those things are confusing.,,

  • @allnyermind

joe wrote it for mick because even after they made it big with London Calling Joe was squatting and mick lived with his grandma

  • @allnyermind thanks for sharing

  • Kid?! NO! I NEVER HAD A KID WITH ME! ...wut?

  • so what is the metaphor?

  • The Clash!!! One of the best bands England has produced, every single song has great meaning with fantastic lyrics! Magic

  • So the kid's... ...Lost In The Supermarket? I want to slate this, but I kind of like the video - it's simple and, as somebody else has pointed out, if you're prepared to see the lyrics as a metaphor, then why not let that follow through to the video?

  • Maybe you're just too literally interpreting the visual and it's meant as metaphorically as the lyrics.

  • what an amazing video, great originality and a true clash fan

  • is that shopright ? One time when i was littler i got lost in Khols and i was at the counter i was soo scared ! they put me on the speaker and i was like oh no . lol and i am 10

  • Who is the kid in the video? Is this the official video? Is that kid supposed to be Joe Strummer or whoever sung this awesome song when he was kid?

  • Huh! They shop at Albertsons!!!!

  • Tastes good. The guitar sounds really good for me : )
