And to us all some faint hope...he wasn't a player of note...but his ideas & energy nixed it musically...and he was smart to s8urround his ideas with the BEST players........I feel like these tunes are treasured members of my musical family.......40 years later I remember every single note.......in awe...still...

It's miracle for me . Michael's affection for jobim made him compose this masterpiece. A lot of solos of famaou musicians , for example Joe sample ,David sanborn, and Larry carlton deeply touches my heart every time I listen to this song. I'm afraid I 'll never have opportunity to get masterpiece like this.
This is the hottest music ever. Michael, I call you Hot Dog (Franks) but with love and respect. This is the smoothest love in music I've ever experienced! Your voice and that sax is bringing it!!!!!
I always find myself playing his music on rainy days, or when i'm clean my house. It's easy to get into a groove with his sound. He's a master at what he does.
The Michael Franks "sound" was very much established by some great musicians he used from the Crusaders guys...Joe Sample, Wilton Felder and Larry Carlton and particularly the sax work of Dave Sanborn, along with special sound styles provided by the likes of guitarists John Tropea ( Burchfield Nines album) and Eric Gale( on One Bad Habit album).
Words cannot describe how deeply I am touched by the music of Michael Franks, particularly Sleeping Gypsy. As a soloist,I am rooted into the solos of Michael Brecker,David Sanborn,Joe Sample, and Larry Carlton. One of my favorite sax players,Wilton Felton plays bass on this album with John Guerin on drums.I never thought I would hear this again. It's time for "bwana he no home.Jimmy Quintana-saxaphonist/composer.
