Marillion - це просто фантастична прогрокова команда, особливо коли фротменом був Fish! Thanx to ILoveAnnieHaslam for this compilation. Дякую. Greetings from Ukraine!
It was a simple yet effective process: the tune would usually be catchy and accessible, allowing Fish to make the lyrics as proggy or as poppy as he liked.
@ISREAL53 ~ True (about Fish) ~ He's a poet, a philosopher, a realist, and sometimes even religious in a way I cannot define. There is more 'Spirit' in his music and lyrics than anyone can find in a Church of "God".
I heard that the Fugazi album was written by Fish when he was suicidal about all the unnecessay evil of the Earth, from the Micro to the Macro. No fucking wonder a man of the intellect I esteem him to have came up with not only this song, but the ENTIRE GENIUS LYRICS OF THAT ALBUM. Maybe he was stood in a place where 'we' dare not look?...
@KarmicAnarchist Well, that's one way of looking at it... Drummers rarely become STARS, but guys like Cozy Powell, Jeff Porcaro, Neil Peart et al get RECOGNITION. On a different note, all guitarists with few exceptions are self-absorbed show-off whimps who obsess about their minuscule penises.
@whatwouldjudydo Ha ha ha, I'm no guitarist, thank God! People like Yngwie Malmsteen and Angus Young made me realise that I never, EVER, would want to go on stage with an instrument associated with people like that, who just want to make themselves look good, not the band. The guitar is a wonderful instrument, I just can't stand the people who play it,
They should have named this one 'Punchin' Judy', so it could have been an anthem against spousal abuse. ;) But seriously, 'Script...' and 'Fugazi' are both in my all-time album top 20. Not a hint of a bad song (or even moment) on either of them.
@troynew2006 I couldn't agree with you more! I think Script might be in the top 5 all time debut albums. Both albums do not have a bad song in them, and really, the more you listen to Cluthing at Straws the better it gets. I saw them at the Hammersmith back in 84, great concert, I loved Fish coming out with a helmut for the encore - Forgotten Sons. The place went crazy!!
Love Fugazi, Emerald lies and this tune in perticular, no longer on vinyl in my collection I'm afraid. This track applies to many of my early relationships - thank God I'm 40 - done all that now we accept. Haunted me [this track] in teenage years. Thanks for such a good sound recording. I played this to death at Biggin Hill RAF recruiting....Excellent!
