Is it really that absurd of a question to ask when once upon a time our own fraternities and sororities denied membership based on other physical attributes? (comparing skin complexion to paper bags) And even in 2010, some HBCU's are asking their homecoming queens to straighten their hair if they want to keep that crown and represent the university. It is nearly impossible to do with "tightly coiled"/natural African hair (although given time fros and locs can grow quite long and have some bounce to them).
