  • love how the coast guard has search and rescue colours but ive seen some with a barett 50cal hanging out the side of it. its like yay were going to be rescued and then you get blown up by a 50cal lol

  • @TheDudeFrom0Z It's used to stop drug runners in the carribean

  • This is a really good video, thanks to the uploader

  • its the best landing ever

  • They turn backwards compared to other helicopters, thanks France.

  • Is this video mirrored or does the rotor turn opposite the standard direction?

  • @PilotMan7700 when you look at a cars wheels on the freeway, they appear to be going backwards..no?

  • @alitmz OK...how about at about 2:27 in the video when the rotor is coasting and coming to a stop and is clearly rotating clockwise (as seen from the pilot's seat). Conventional American made helicopters such as the Bell 206 or Sikorsky UH-60, the main rotor turns counterclockwise. Are you really trying to make me feel like I was stupid and don't know what I am talking about?...fail

  • @PilotMan7700 how you feel about yourself is between you and your therapist.

  • @alitmz Come up with that one all by yourself?

  • @PilotMan7700 no you're mother helped.

  • @alitmz Man, you're digging real hard to come up with some good stuff. Don't hurt yourself now. Do you realize you're just making yourself look like a total ass?

  • @PilotMan7700 I actually don't even have a shovel...no need..not really digging. It seems that you are digging super hard to be righteous...how's that going for you?

  • Center-Line! Sweet landing friend!

  • The boat to to the left ist a standard procedere when a copter ist landing. And its realy hard to land a copter on a ship. But the dolphin hh-65A is a very easy to fly copter comparing to other the same size. Try this with the old Sikorsky HH-52A Sea Guard like we did in the past. The Pilot did a real good job anyway.

  • what a fucking landing!!! Phew~

  • Fake as a three dollar bill.

  • thats one of the hardest things as a helicopter pilot landing at sea on a moving platform with opposing wind and drag tubulance from a boat. great job... and im just wondering if those rotors have shut down brakes cuz they come to a complete stop really fast compared to the h65's ive seen before.

  • @Marshall7302 I particularly like the tiny little rotors on top. Maybe they counter-rotate to create braking turbulence?

  • liked the way they shaked hands .. so manly

  • Anybody else notice the boat off the starboard side of the ship? (left side of video)

  • @RickInIsh No.

  • @sketchmeister wellll, look.

  • that job must suck when the weather gets really bad

  • some people know their job...

  • Coasties are great helicopter pilots. But i still wouldn't fly in a helicopter until the came up with a good escape plan for if your helicopter goes down.

  • Funny, the Coastie pilots I work with complain about the Dolphin's avionics issues allot. Still a gorgeous machine though.

  • next: debrief

  • I swear, Coast Guard pilots have to be the best aviators in the world

  • I just love the sound of them

  • Too bad some hot blonde with big boobs in a tight sweater didn't jump out of the passenger seat.

  • y el banana es q se bajo de ultimo q estava haciendo dentro del helicoptero... una paja jaja

  • u know how come they dont use any of the lke 110s or bigger on the great not including icebreakers

  • was this great lakes our ocean

  • @trainfreak7745 Read description. It was the Gulf Of Mexico.

  • wonderful video! and great helicopter

  • The pliot of this helo is an awesome guy! The admiral on board with him, not so much.

  • any advice to a junior in high school who has a dream of flying for the coast guard?

  • You need a college degree and a comission as an officer into the Coast Guard. The best route would probably be the Coast Guard Academy. Although I believe if you go into any ROTC program at a college you can transfer the commission to the Coast Guard, I'm not positive about that though.

  • What about going to college and then applying to OCS? I figured if you did this you could apply to more then one service

  • Well my suggestion if your going to college just get it out of the way while your there, i.e. ROTC. You can go to college and then do OCS which is an option but it would take more time that way. Also, I'm not exactly sure the Coast Guard has an OCS program. But, I don't know that much about the Coast Guard just what the recruiter told me when I asked about being a pilot for them. Which you should probably talk to a Coast Guard recruiter about it.

  • @flyboycamkevi1 you might want to try the coast guard academy, i'll be going there

  • @sedargo77 how do u know you will be going there?

  • @bigbfoot1 i applied and they let me know, im in the cg right now, im at prep school and il be going there next year. class of 2015

  • incorrect

  • @flyboycamkevi1 Join the Auxiliary when you join 17, and if possible take some early pilots courses. Through the Auxiliary you will receive more training and get to go up in a USCG Aux Helicopter.

  • reflective paint would interfere with the radar equipment in the nose. thus a flatt/matte black

  • can you say me why de frontal part od de helicopter is black??

  • @cachorrito0207 - I think is black because light does not reflect off any shiny surface, so artificial light or the sun's glare won't disturb the sight of the crew!

  • ok thanks a lot

  • same concept as football players black cheeks. To reduce glare into the pilots vision. Notice it's matte black and no gloss = No reflection.

  • There is no reason why it is matte black vs gloss black, the older Bravo models and the 60s we fly have a gloss nose, it is just the way they are made, but there is a radar in there

  • Ok what happed to military bearing? You don't salute if you are not wearing a cover...LOL

  • So beautiful, a work of art, the team behind the hh65 did an outstanding job, im sure there's thousands of ppl that consider this helicopter their fav

  • This brings me back to 1998 off the coast of Hawaii 200 miles out a man with a heart attack at sea was saved by the coast guard and the navy together on the afs1mars for refueling. We had rough seas that day.

  • what u think about Navy SAR Swimmers? they save alot of people to?

  • Any one that can save a life is looked at as a HERO in my book

  • ahh, the old dili. i remember this day. that was one of many landings. we had the Eagle off the starboard and a lot of work to do!

  • Best Goast Guard helicopter in my opinion!

  • i think the jayhawk is better, the dolphin is light and fast fast the jayhawk is much more stable

  • jayhawk can also carry weapons systems

  • yea anti sub weapons and stuff

  • Why's that?

  • @dankohner jayhawk all the way.

  • did they just go from full to engines off?

  • No, if you listen carefully at 1.09 the engines go to idle.

  • oic

  • Barry, thats because of the tech. level of metals, paints and other factors but mostly about the quality of any given stations Q.A. ops, Not once while working on and doing pre flight inspecting did I find even minor corrosion problems at AirSt, TVC or Miami. At Miami I flew 40hrs the first week of the Mariel boatlift and was lookin, real close for ANY possible "down check items" including corrosion. So, I gotta ask whats your experience on the 52 ? airplanebuilderman 5yrs2mnths 1.2 extended

  • My brother was assigned to this cutter based out of Wilmington, North Carolina

  • your brother still in?

  • god bless him

  • I love the sound a Dolphin makes!

  • I thought that was pretty cool!!!

  • As a former USCG AD3 I still think the HH52a was a better helo. It was amphibius. You could stand up in it and it held more people. Iy also had a rotor brake ro stop the blades for quick egress and better open vision for the pilots. If the CG had just developed a new model with a new rotor system.new hull and pilots doors, ect. It woulda been better than the 65 which is already being replaced. The Japs still fly amphibs for a reason, they,r more versatile in rescues/supply missions.SEMPE PARATUS.

  • That helicopter was a Corrosion nightmare.

  • owned.

  • how long were you in for? i did 8. I was also a non rate ot air sta humboldt bay. I'd just left for cook school about a month before humboldt lost their 2nd 65

  • good solid job securing that helo. COAST GUARD ALL THE WAY

  • Like glass out there, perfect weather, smooth deck. Piece of cake.

  • what an awesome video

  • If someone wants to buy that helicopter, how much do you think it costs by estimate?

  • haha theres a guy in a boat off to the left

  • thats actually another coast guard boat

  • Just in case they fall off the cutter right?

  • yes thats true, those boats are following the carrier/ship during the helicopter is landing, because if the heli falls off the landingzone into the water, the divers jump into the water and try to rescue the heli crew, the are a video on youtube, where a heli failed the landing and crashed into the sea, and the boats immediately turned to the sinking heli, to rescue the crew.

  • must be nice to land w/o a ciws in the way huh?

  • slightly a rough landing but good piloting!

  • LOL all the sounds you think are cool you will soon learn to hate....except the 50 cals <3

  • Good Ground work1

  • Coolest sounding helo. Why does it always take them so long to shut down the engine upon landing?

  • they have to go thru a post flight/landing checklist before they shut down the engine. its a safety thing, Im sure there's more to it also.

  • cooling of the turbines also, if they shut down without cooling, they could temper the metal protecting the air compressor and crack it.

  • They want to make sure that its tied down before they turn it off so there is no possibility of it falling into the sea

  • Along with post/pre flight checks like blacktopsx said if there is an emergency and they need to take off quickly with the engines still running they can not sure about boats but when landing on a runway you have to keep in mind other aircraft/vehicles that could potentially hit you

  • Most helicopters have a cool down time for the engine, this is because the engine runs at such a high heat and velocity, that some of the parts would not cool down properly if you just went from flight to shut down. You need to idle to allow for proper cooling of the engine parts.

  • Im entering my junior year of highschool now and i am interested in joining the U.S. Coast Guard. I want to do it because of the honor, training and moral respect you gain from the experience. I am specifically interested in becoming a pilot. If anyone on here as any useful feedback to offer or some guidance be sure to respond. Im deffiantely willing to listen.

  • your best bet would be to go on to the USCG main website and look ant all the info they have their first

  • Ask A recuiter about Officer Candidate School or The Coast guard Acadamy. All pilots

in the coast guard are officers. The Avitaion rates for the enlisted are AMT Aviation Maintence Technnican, AET Aviation Election Technician, and AST Aviation Surival Technician. the Big Thing that Disqualifly most people is Drugs or a Criminal record.

because you need to be able to obtain a security clearence for all Coast guard rates

  • Let me straighten this out. Eurocopter is a French company. Therefore the helicopter is called a 'Dauphin' which, when translated into English means 'Dolphin'

  • Let me straighten this out.

Eurocopter is German+French company. The Dauphin is however purely a French development, made before the merger.

  • The Coast Guard HH-65 is a Dolphin but earlier models of the helicopter such as the Eurocopter AS365N3 is called a Dauphin

  • It isn't about earlier or later models. The Coast Guard calls the HH-65 the Dolphin, but the French and non-USCG operators call it the Dauphin. Same helicopter, different name.

  • Oh yea, take a look at the description too. Moron.

  • the dauphin is one of my favorite helicopters.

  • What's a dauphin? Its "dolphin"

  • Dolphin is the animal. Dauphin is the helicopter. If you don't believe me then be my guest and check the Eurocopter website. It's clearly spelled DAUPHIN. Or I guess you could use Wiki or Google.

  • @ autoreboot:

Of course it's spelled "dauphin" -because it's french but that MEANS dolphin! ;-)

  • I remember many landings on the deck of the Diligence. Yes, it was shut off from flight power. I bet it is because the passenger was a 2-star Admiral. When the left door opens, look at the blue plaque set in the windows with 2 stars. That means a VIP onboard.

The normal shut down proceedure is to run it at ground idle briefly to cool the motors down.

  • what's the right name for this helicopter? dauphin or dolphin?cause i bought an rc heli and it says esky dauphin on it and it looks exactly like this.

  • dauphin

  • It's a "Dolphin" in the USCG, Dauphin is the french word for Dolphin.

  • That's right...

  • Did he shut the engine off at a high throttle? Never herd the engine throttle down.

  • Nice video, although I wouldn't say the landing was flawless...he seemed to put it down a little less than gracefully. Maybe there was a hellish crosswind, if that was the case then it was a very good landing...my 2 cents.

  • Okay, I realise that the pilots have to set them down quickly to ensure it's firmly on the surface. Excellent landing! :) Good vid, thanks for sharing! Yet another 2 cents!

  • Always loved the sound of the Fenestron.

  • better be a good landing some important people on that thing

  • NICE SHOES! lol

  • Flawless landing. Beautiful video. Thank you for sharing.

  • Semper Paratus All The Way !

  • Plopped it right on the "T" - how deft can you get? Nice job.

  • Haha, better be good with the Rear Admiral and District Commander on board!

  • very proffesional! cool!

  • Great shot. Awesome footage. Beautiful

  • VERY NICE SHOT...GREAT CHOPPER
