I know no song that matches this one in sheer creativity and stream-of-conscious brilliance. I have no idea what it means, but to me it sums up what Pavement "feels" like. No one can sound quite like Pavement, and quite frankly, I wouldn't want them to.
@bongzuki i really gotta ask what your source for this "fact" is because malkmus is known for changing lyrics on the fly and i doubt he would bother taping a lyric sheet to the back of his guitar
@ jackwearing The lyrics/tune are from "Dark Ages," which is on the Crooked Rain re-issue ("recorded in early 1993 at Louder Than You Think Studios"). Early (partial) version of "Fillmore" was what I figured when I heard it.
god dammit i could watch this video a million fucking times, if there's any pavement live video nearly as good as this, direct me to it please. mind blowing performance
awesome live band. saw them on toronto island... they were making fun of broken social scene or whoever the hell played with them... anyways.. blah blah.
HEY.. WHAT"AYA NEED. would you like to come and bleed with me?
@Colinmayr Damn, being from Toronto myself I wish I had went to the show but I only came across Pavement after their reunited tour from my Brother. Broken Social Scene is still a great band regardless, I feel as if Pavement is the best Indie band but they can come off as assholes a lot of the times (from interviews and shows). I blame it on the downfall of the band though.

"You and me, doin' Tai-Chi, in the park, after dark..."
And thus Pavement solidifies their place in the melting-pot called Americana.

This performance is Pavement.

pavement's best live performance, in terms of stage presence (and yes. even better than blue hawaiian where he plays with a bouncy ball)
4:22 - I think Malkmus forgot his guitar scales
7:03 - vocal fury engaged
7:50 - playing guitar on his shoulder

A little known fact is that Steve forgot the lyrics to the outro, so he was reading them from the back of his guitar.

Where are the lyrics at the beginning from? Fantastic performance though, and Fillmore Jive is one of my favourite Pavement songs!
