There's a gag in some early '50s comedy movie where two guys encounter Joan in Hollywood, playing herself, and she suddenly slaps one of 'em for no reason. "What was that for!?" he yelps, and she replies something like, "I do that in all my pictures."
@hebneh Yes, that's from "It's a Great Feeling" 1949. I rented it from Netflix assuming it would be funny but it's just stupid. She reprises her lines from Mildred Pearce which are totally out of context and don't make any sense. They could have made it funny but the writing is terrible.
@StevenRWorley They're out of context for exactly that reason. It's basically having a laugh at the fact that because Joan slaps people in "all her pictures", it's almost as if they add a situation to her films for the sole purpose of seeing her slap someone. So the Mildred Pierce lines being out of context is making fun of this. It's actually very funny.
Joan Crawford did a lot of slapping. The best one was from the film, "A Woman's Face" where the central characters face is scared, but she slaps the s**t out of
Gwili Andre, on this clip. The worst a** kicking Joan got on film was in "The Damned Don't Cry" with David Brian. One of the best of her melodrama's of the
Those last two scenes were somewhat disturbing... nightmarish. Like the Wicked witch of the west, sort of. The one when the slaps the old lady several times, she almost looks like that witch's sister. and then falling down the stairs backwards like that? The rest was for fun, but those two scenes.... hm.
The last film is called POSSESSED - 1947. Not to be confused with a 1931 film by the same name with Joan Crawford but totally different story. Kind of like Fatal Attraction! Good Movie! Thanks for asking! !
Slappity, Slap, slap, slap! Joan is slaptastic and she goes both ways (slapper / slapee)!!!! It's a tiny little bit festishy towards the end. I just love the stair routine the best!
Just proves, that a good bitch slap's like a good coffee...this is brilliant; the end bit's make me laugh so much, especially -- A Women's face...the victim is pathetic.
Thanks! I am a devoted fan of Joan Crawford and I would see this collage a hundred of times. Amazing, superb, it resumes perfectly the film career of Crawford.
