If it doesn't break your heart that the little girl wanted something as simple as chocolate chips and they couldn't afford it, then you damn sure don't understand what it's like to have the little things.

This song hits you so hard. Cant really belive somebody would actually come out an tell the truth. This describes me at this point in time sadly. All you can do is pray.
Im sitting here at the end of a 12 hour night shift. Wearing my steel toes. Gotta come back and work this weekend on nights. Called in sick once is 3 years. You do what you can to take care of your family. What an amazing song!!
@cool81586@cool81586 First, if you want your opinion to be taken seriously...it helps to use punctuation and capitalization. Oh yeah, and spelling shit correctly also helps.
I am 19 years old, from Kentucky, and I am currently in the United States Army.
The working man is something that will always be appreciated and is what raised this country back to its feet.
With me being in the armed forces of this great country, my parents are stuck there suffering with not being able to find a job, and I give them money every chance I can.
I work my ass off, long nights, barely any sleep, and I feel as if this country isnt going to get any better any time soon...
Dont know if it will be in my lifetime or not but the only thing thats gonna get this country on track is a bunch of brave kids with big ideas and plenty of rifles.
Felt the need to post this song on FB again, considering there's a bunch of idiots out there looking to pay $220 to 60K+ for a pair of sneakers! Fair Tax Act.. really makes sense.. specially today!
the song hits home, my families from down on the ohio river, we have a farm, family was steel mill workers, coal miners, that entire areas dried up now. but i can't help but notice at 1:40. look at the car she's driving. its foreign. if we want to spring back, we need to buy american to help the economy. we cant bounce back buying things from asia. ill give it to toyota though, they have plants in the US. but I'm still partial to ford, dodge, chevy.

cool81586 rlly? this economy is fallen apart, gas pumps over $3, jobs lost, terrible government, greedy people like you who dont care about anything like the rich people, nobody cares about the poor and thats we live life struggling...The rich people like who own gas stations want more and more money when they already have enough so price goes up. You will learn trust me. everything made in China now or another country. I dont think our enonomy will get back on track but i always hope...its sad
Um, first off, What's your problem? Maybe you're the idiots walking around blindly with a pocket full of cash. You're that freaken one percent at the top... If you walked a mile in my shoes, a 14 year old who barely is getting by, I think you might rethink some of those things you are saying. This song is so relate-able it's scary... My own little sister, well I fear so much for her. You just think about what you're commenting, and maybe walk a mile in my shoes to know how it feels.
wow that girl at 2:13 reminds me so much of my sister. she had no idea the hard times we went through we did a real good job of making sure she didnt know about it so she wouldnt worry. im glad now that shes a little older and times are better so she doesnt have to go through that
@cool81586 are you retarded or something? Do you not know what its like to have to pay for things? You probably don't have a job, and your parents pay for everything for you. Im sure your parents sure are proud to have a kid like you as their child. You sound like you don't give a f*** about anyone but yourself. The economy is going down there are less and less jobs every day. You should learn to pay for yourself and see what thats like.
I love this song for several reason. A) it is a song of unity. B) a well-off fellow American knows and understands what we're going through. C) it foreshadows some very difficult questions that must be answered in my lifetime, the budget, dry oil wells. I just hope we find the right politicians to listen to us to solve these problems.
Work for a local company. When you get a check, cash it and put it into your pocket. Obey the law. Bite your tongue and do your job. You do these things and we, WE, citizens can make this country better. Instead of leaving our fate in the hands of some politician. One person. Look around folks, we're being overthrown by our own government. Yes this is a great country. Yes we are freer than most. But look closer, we are turning into a "hitler" state. God bless our troops and God bless the U.S.A.
@eride806 Why? Because im right? All you gotta do is open your eyes. Oh wait, i forgot most americans walk around blindly completely oblivious to what is going on in our own country. Why? Because that is our right. Take a look at what dirtymike313 wrote... Hmm, go figure. And who's the fucking idiot here? The close-minded person in this conversation.
how many times have you looked where your car parts are made? America WAS the industrial center of the world....now its china. WHEN america losses all of its industrial capability we become slaves to other nations. check where your parts are made and buy american!
Great song. I've been reversing that trend. I want gas at 189.9 a gallon. I've been bringing manufacruring back. Vote for Bryan Garten Let's make MADE IN USA mean something again!
Ronnie is perfection. He was meant to sing our feelings and passions and no one can touch how he grabs your heart with his amazing vocal talent. I am so glad he has kept singing even after Brookes and Dunn broke up, we need you Ronnie! Do not ever stop singing you bless us again and again!
The 12 dislikes are from politicians. Bunch of ignorant, corrupt, backward criminals are driving this country into the ground, while they stuff all our money into their pockets. Nearly 50% of the money the government gets from taxing comes directly out of our paycheck....... there is something wrong with that.
@UntamedAdreniline all that song is as a man singing about how poor he is and how tuff he is i think this song sucks i do not know why my dad likes it it sucks he thinks he is tuff working at the mill.
@cool81586 this song is about what is happening to this country, its supposed to represent the majority of Americans that are barely making it by because of how this country is being governed.
@cool81586 must be a child, that hasnt had to worry about this kind of situation, or maybe its just ignorance, i was laid off yesterday....had to drive 2 hrs to get home and tell my children and theyre mother....stay in school kid,it might be the only thing that saves you
@dirtymike313 My mom had that same situation a couple months ago. I wish you luck on finding a job, took her over 6 months. She babysat for most of those months. $20 a day. It's better than nothing at all...
@cool81586 then get the fuck off you spoiled prick. nobody asked your opinion. maybe you should start being gratefull you have a hardworking dad, if i was him you'd be on your ass
for anyone that says that Socialist, communist, or anything that they are comparing the US to now, think about it this way. 1 in 7 people are living off food stamps in the US. We have people taking jobs long enough so they can get on unemployment this time. We are paying the congressmen, senators, previous presidents, and first ladies enough retirement that could end the national debt within 10 years. Businesses build our country. Government sucks up our money.
Every time I hear this song, It make me teary eyed, For THOSE OF US who work hard and bust our ass, *If you know what I mean* Just to put food on the table, the sadness for those that are barley getting by. PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!! <3
@KawiGirl202 22 years militaryfive tours in Middle Esat, 5 kids 4 under 18 only recieving 72% of my retirement whicih is 1603.00 a month. and I have to pay taxes on that. It's hard but I have been looking for work no luck since i am disabled from MILITARY. Still proud to be AMERICAN . No place I rather struggle in than the USA. We will survive. I am still proud to be an American
The american government did this by investing in capitalism rather than the people. You wouldn't see anything like this in a socialist or any non neoliberal country. It's unfair that the top 1% of the population makes 80% of total income within one country while the other 99 scrap what they can from 20.
The girl you just called fat?...She is overdosing on diet pills. The girl you just called ugly?...She spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her. The boy you just tripped?.. He is abused enough at home. See that man with the ugly scars?... He fought for his country. That guy you just made fun of for crying. His mum is dying. Put this on one other video if youre against bullyin. I bet 95% of you wont re-post but I'm sure the people with heart and backbonewill!
@wangsta25 it's funny that I know exactly what you mean. Take for instance Chris Brown has a lyric saying "I make what you make in 10 years, in 2 days." For people like myself that work for a living, that is like saying doing honest work (not beating women) will never be good enough. It also says something when these people have THAT much money and income and yet do nothing about the debt America is in. Something to think about...1% of America could donate enough money to put us in surplus...
Thank you guys for caring and listening, it means allot. To everybody who listened to this song and cares, thank you. My dad still says allot and id love to just go on so i kno ppl can read and care and understand but many other people got there problems to worry about. I pray everynight for things to get better and so i have a great future, ill prays for everybodie elses to. Thank you all.
I was fired from my job 5 days before Christmas and used whatever I had left to buy gifts for my family. I've been unemployed since, and now my landlord is threatening to throw me out of my home. I have no car, no money, no health insurance, no job. My parents offered their help to me, but I'm too proud to ask. That part of the song gets me. This country- this WORLD needs to change. . . Fast.
Ugh the part of the lady at the grocery store put me in tears. I've been living off the same cereal box for a week. I have 20$ left for the next 2 weeks. I need that 20$ for bus tickets to get to work. In order to not be homeless, rent comes first, then heat because it gets cold in the winter. Food comes next and somehow, I can't afford it. I just hope no one sees how thin im becoming. I'm too scared to ask for help. I've never been so poor in my life.
it's truely sad to see old business get foreclosed and the only thing making it big is banks and oil, but what happens when oil is gone? what happens when coal runs out? where will America go for goods if China stops trading with us? ...and it only took us a few hundred years to mess this world up didn't it? im not a tree hugger but its sad to think about these things sometimes.
I cry every time I hear this song. It's amazing how Ronnie Dunn can put my life into a song. But the sad thing is, it's everyone's life. Most Americans today can easily relate to this song. I'm only 14 and I understand everything that's happening while my little sister is just like that little girl. She doesn't understand. I just... worry how everyone's going to get by.
I'm a hip hop/ R&B dude from Newark, NJ.... and all I can say is that this song is so heavy.... i was able to teach my children something with this one... heavy
I lov how during recessions country artists sing about hard times and making ends meet while every other pop star sings about sipping expensive drinks, getting bitches, riding cars, counting money, etc. They hav absolutely no idea what the fuck is going on.
have faith people, they may be able to take jobs , houses, and material things but they can't take our love. No matter what happens to you in your life, remember to stay positive, and hold on to the one thing they can't take,Family.
this is such a great song, and is the story of so many american's,, yet this still hasn't had over half a million. i could listen to this song on repeat
Thank you Ronnie Dunn :) Everyone can go ask their grandparents when gas was a dime. Now its like what; 3.68 a gallon? Also go ask them when this economy wasn't controlled by idiots. And when your at the grocery store, when you buy groceries over 200$, people look at you like your an idiot. Well tell them, "I'm sorry this world is so expensive". This song tells it all. The cost of livin's expensive. Now scroll up your screen. You're missing a truly inspirational song :)
i feel america needs to be a closed country produce there own goods here dont import any cause we can produce all we need it would take a while for the prices of goods to drop but i think it would work better than shipping jobs overseas then buying products back
@64caddy1 Actually if there was no importing, the American economy would be a lot worse off... It's just that all the companies going for cheaper labour, it has nothing to do with importing.
@rcrozier58 ur payign 3.58 im paying almsot 4.00 for unleaded its freaking high here but i live in farming area i cant afford to drive my truck but i have to my dad been giving me money every month when i have half tank of gass im paying 60 bucks to get it to full its fucning expensive here and its stuiped we need gas for other thigns like our turcks and our tractors so we cna get food grow corn and sell it
Saw Ronnie do this at the Iowa State Fair. Riveting. Introducing it, he said he was advised not to do the song - too political. Glad he did it. I hope it will cause people to reflect on systemic problems causing bad economic condidtion. Things like not being able to drill US oil because of liberal gov't regulations, forcing us to depend on/pay for foreign oil. Not to mention gov't being so big that it more taxes to fund everything -- money that could be used to invest in/grow business/industry.
Ronnie has done it yet again, this song is way too true in todays world and im only affraid its going to get worse before it gets better. My best friend came in from being out one day and said have you heard the new song by ronnie dunn you know the one that makes you cry. I said absolutely. I love you Ronnie.
love it. its so true world wide not just in the states. we paying about $1.50 a litre at the pump . that's about $6 a gallon in Australia. Great first solo album mate ... keep em coming.
every time i hear this song i think about what could happen if i lost my job. i'm thankful that i have a job. this is one of the most real songs about today and the struggles of ppl that are laid off. to the ppl that dont like the video. you have absolutely no idea how hard it is to loose your job and have to worry about your family. "cuz the cost of living high and goin up"
to have your income and ability to provide to your family is one of the worste feelings a man can have it hits in the gut and the wallet you take the hits and do everything you can to rebuild
2 versions of the song? anyone else notice this? one said $4 and change at the pump, the other $3 and change. he's changing the song to account for inflation...#facepalm. great song regardless.
And all I hear on the radio is about partying and driving girls around....I dont know whos life that is but it shure as hell aint mine the last couple of years. Awesome song. Stay strong guys, I am, its gotta get better.
Republicans is what we want in the House. A conservative republican, not a damn democratic liberal. When Obama got in Office. Thats the worst mistake America made. What has he done good for this country? Nothing at all.
Actually we need someone to take America back! I dont rely on the Government. I work my ass off with a 40t hour week. More people need to stop relying on the government and get work done themselves. Watch the Movie Atlas Shrugged. Its what were heading for if we dont get Obama out of Office!
Im 20 years old... And this song is everything to me... Never had a job, not because Im not looking, because no one wants to hire someone with no experience ... but they never wanna give anyone a try. Been trying to get one since I was 17.
Its very true. Companies would rather hire people who supposedly know what they're doing because well they went to college and have a piece of paper to say so, when in reality those people couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag with instructions. Nevermind hiring someone that might not have the initial knowledge but once given the proper training would be a career employee.
I competely understand where this video is coming from. There is a plant in my area that is shutting down also. I have a few friends effected by this. =( I'm 24 and there has got to be Americans my age that want to fight to make sure our country doesn't nose dive for our children. BTW the white house at 3:01, I used to live in that house about 5 years ago.
for alot of people right now...this is how it is. one paycheck at a time. I know this is the worst year I have ever had. 7,000 + dollars behind on child support, not that I dont want to pay, just can't. Made $109.00 in past 2 and half months. God be with everyone struggling right now.
If we don't blame our elected representives who sat on their ass and watched our country being sold out, just who in the hell should we blame? They filled their pockets both Republican and Democrats.
@RGLandscapeandOddJob amen, I can't tell you how lucky I feel to have the job I have right now after the last one went south. it's awful having to work in a different state from my family and not see them for a while but I paid off the college loan and now can work on the mortgage...I feel very blessed.
Does anyone know where the historic house @3:55 is located? It's beautiful. As far as working goes, I've changed jobs a whole bunch of times in my life, got laid off once, scared a lot. The 70s were as bad of an economy as now if not worse. Best advice I can give everybody is be flexible. Many of the people I know who find new jobs have to move to a different area with better opportunities. The ones who have a lot of trouble often are those who won't move even though they could.
My dad worked 2 jobs in the oil patch when I was a kid, just about 24 hour days, 7 days a week. He worked his way up and was able to leave one job which gave him more time with us. He's now one of the head bosses in his area. He worked his ass off to make sure my sister and I had all the opportunities we wanted. This song reminds me so much of him and it makes me realize how truly blessed I was growing up.
I work as hard as humanly possible to take care of my family. It is tough to make ends meet, thats why me, my wife, and daughter moved in with her grandparents. its the only way for us to have a place to live and to eat. the worst part is that there are other people who are worse off that have no one to turn to. I am american through and through and i try to help others when I can. I want every one to have faith that tomorrow will be better than today. It is the least that we can do.
My dad listens to this song everday, he says just listen to the words closely. I ask why, he tells me how this economy is coming to a end, he says he feels bad for me and all the other kids because its gonna b a tough future. I'm 16 and im honestly scared thinking about it. My dad works at a factory, laid off once and luckily called back in. People, spend a little more money for American products, dont let workers loose there jobs. Its sad, have some heart. Everybody matters.
@Mrtoyboy861 i completely agree with you, im 17 and my dad tells me to get the best education so i dont have to work my life away. work is good, but to work your life away isn't.
Its hard to find anything made in the USA anymore, it truly is. You have to really look hard. Whenever I do find something that is made in the USA that's what I buy. Its horrible to see all the crap coming from other countries, that won't even last a year and some not even a month. I try to hang onto all of my old things with MADE IN USA on it as long as I can. The country has gone to crap because of the political ballgame in DC, they have no clue what they are doing.
@Mrtoyboy861 thats why Ronnie Dunn choose to just have an acoustic guitar the hear the song and listen closely my dad always tells me that this is my future this is how bad the economy is and im just about to turn 16 i know my future is going to be hard
@Mrtoyboy861 Listen to your Daddy-the world is a sad, sad place right now. I only hope it gets better-my son is 11 and I think of his future every second of every day and I guarantee your Dad does the same.
@Mrtoyboy861 im 19 now my dad went through the same thing. an you no you made alot of people happy an helped alot of people out when the day your let off you have people calling his name to go to a machine over the pa every hour for 2 weeks in a row an they call him back to work because of that an there where machines no one else could fix.
First time hearing it and thoroughly enjoyed it! Hits home for me and lots of us out there. Inspiring and allows us to have an attitude of gratitude by putting things into perspective.
ahhh ya got to just love the Bushes they tore a superpower down in how many years?? How much did they get out of all their oil deals????And the boy still go's to watch Texas play ball!

Look around folks, we're being overthrown by our own government. Yes this is a great country. Yes we are freer than most. But look closer, we are turning into a "hitler" state. God bless our troops and God bless the U.S.A.

The 12 dislikes are from politicians. Bunch of ignorant, corrupt, backward criminals are driving this country into the ground, while they stuff all our money into their pockets. Nearly 50% of the money the government gets from taxing comes directly out of our paycheck....... there is something wrong with that.

for anyone that says that Socialist, communist, or anything that they are comparing the US to now, think about it this way.

The american government did this by investing in capitalism rather than the people. You wouldn't see anything like this in a socialist or any non neoliberal country. It's unfair that the top 1% of the population makes 80% of total income within one country while the other 99 scrap what they can from 20.

This song reminds me so much of him and it makes me realize how truly blessed I was growing up.

It is tough to make ends meet, thats why me, my wife, and daughter moved in with her grandparents. its the only way for us to have a place to live and to eat. the worst part is that there are other people who are worse off that have no one to turn to.
