  • Just the fact that you are playing to an Ian Hunter song tells me you either are or have the potential to be a great artist. You also get points for looking cool and hip while playing. I want to hear you do a bass solo version of this song. (maybe with a drum track).

  • its unusual to see a fretless with blocks, was the neck once fretted?

  • Sounds fantastic!!

  • Will you be so kind sending me the song file? I bought this song on itunes but it did not have the bass solo.

  • allllllright

  • Well done!

  • Random question: Do you find playing a fretless harder or do your fingers just go to the positions naturally because of how many years you've played?

  • @videovader101 If I relax it is not harder than a fretted bass after some years of playing. It is when you think too much it is starting to get difficult.

  • I love your little glance up at 1:53. It's just like "Yeah, I just did that." great job. sounds exactly like the original.

  • Dude.

  • got to love that lick at 1:53

  • You a a superb bassist!!!!

  • complimentoni!!!

  • ¡¡¡¡GRANDE!!! ¡SOS GRANDE!

  • sure SOUNDS like flats mate....u should try some Thomastic JF344 flats if u haven't already, I think you'd like them.

  • The rounds are worn:-) The Thomastik JF344 are great. I use them on my Precision playing on my Brick House vid. I have also had those on my Hagström Super Swede Bass (the ABBA playalongs).

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • My all time favorite bass solo, really nice job!

  • Hunter/Pastorius - All American Alien Boy

is that full name of this song?

  • All American Alien Boy by Ian Hunter performed by said Ian Hunter featuring Jaco Pastorius on bass.

  • This i "All american alien boy" from Ian Hunters album with same name.

This is one of the absolutly most overseen records ever, its fantastic, great band and great songs, a real joy to listen to...

  • simply great!

  • Thanks for answering! I can see the satisfaction on your face, mate.

  • great playing and sound!

  • Nice sounds. I always said the Jazz Bass could get a "Ric" sound. Thomas-Infield strings again? Which gauge?

Have you ever tried bass to the McCartney tune "What Do We Really Know?" from the "McGear" album? Great solo there as well (though certainly not as much 'soul' as this solo).

  • Old, worn Rotosounds. As close to flatwounds you could get:-)

  • Great job !! really ! love hunter . love jaco's bass style and strangely it worked on this album !

    Superb playing my friend ...

  • 1.56 is where its at

  • dude i like clapped for that solo, i cant read tabs either nor should any real musician

  • Cool song, great work on that solo.

  • i think this is ur best one

  • OMG man, the solo was toooo good ! first time I hear that song, your a very nice bass player man, I'll subscribe right now !

  • this is awesome.

  • Skön låt ju! :)

  • Bassowman, do you have this solo transcribed on tablature? I have a transcription done in "real" music, but the tab would be very helpful. If so, please let me know I could get a copy of it.

  • Sorry, but I don't do tabs. I can't read them:-).

  • dude, that's crazy. I learned to read them in like 5 minutes when i was 14.

  • dduuddee u gota tell me how to do that lick at 1:55

  • Bflat-B-C (on A-string)-Aflat (on G-string)and then just move that figure down the neck.

  • Very impressive!

  • No, but I will consider joining.

  • GREAT!

  • BAAAAAAD ASSS!!! :)

  • thanx!!! :-))

  • what effect do you use for the solo??

  • Its like a chorus but I dare say thats caused by the sound of the record and this bass track being ontop of one another.

  • I use no effect here. Just like moomoocajoo says it is the effect of mine and Jaco's slightly diferent intonation on the fretlesses:-)

  • loved this whole album since it came out, always loved the bass on this and you did it justice

  • Congrats! I love this solo, and you nailed it!

  • niiiiice job! very well done!

  • pffff, so cool to listen to you...

    *****

  • Wow, I loved that solo!

  • 5*

Thanks, great one. You nail the solo :)

Hope you will post videos of you live. Do you have a myspace account? Seriously, you rip in at bass!

I'd love to jam with you, you'r so groovy.

  • Well well, do I see a hidden smile after the tricky (i.e. the somewhat busy) passage in the solo? ;)

Well done brother. Btw, Where's your rack? Come on and show it!!

  • Lovley!
