  • Melissa sings this song with unique timbre at times: I don't believe it is at all very easily beatable, or matched. Thank you for the montage.

  • This may be Melissa's best song: most sophisticated, musically, and otherwise. Although "Through the Eyes" would have to be a very strong second, if it is a second.

  • Love this song!

  • I never knew about this song until i saw the movie Dirty Girl and i absoloutely can not stop listening to this now! and im a teenager!

  • @olivialetourneau13 i saw it on dirty girl too, good movie, hadnt heard of it until today!

  • @catspear me too

  • @olivialetourneau13 You should check out more of the 70's music in Pop, Disco, Soul, etc. You have not heard anything yet. I'll tell you something. The music of the 70's used to be played on radio stations across the country at one time.

No more, because if young people today heard it? It would make the garbage they call music today sound like trash.

Trust me, seek out 70's tunes and you will hear for yourself of all that you are missing.

  • This song is fucking depressing..!! I remember hearing this song as a child and thinking wtf?

what a positive message ms. manchester, "don't cry out loud.........etc..... and if you should fall....(well) remember you ALMOST had it all.

  • Great song.

  • This was a European hit for Elkie Brooks. Elkie Brooks has a much better voice.

  • Don't cry out loud... ❤•´ *`•.❤¸

Just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings

Fly high and proud... ❤•´ *`•.❤¸

And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all

  • They left behind her dreams among the litter!

  • This woman had an absolute Canon for a voice, and under complete control.. Ive been comparing here to others..Streisand, Ronstandt , Mitchell..don't know to much about Carey or Beyonce.

It seems to me she had the most powerfull voice of any femakle singer I have ever heard.. Perhaps Ohters had a mopre beuatiful; tone , but hers was certainly very beuatifuol as well.

  • @dickdog1 Agreed...she does have a powerful voice and a great tone ♥♥

  • 0:44 he-man

  • I thought it was like the theme song for the movie Babe, the talking pig. Turns out they aren't related, except for the name. Oh well...it reminds me of that movie. :/

  • What a beautiful song. The words are exactly me.

  • Such a powerful voice! And I miss when artists were accompanied by what amounted to an orchestra, even if it was digitized. Beautiful piece, haven't heard it in years, and then found it randomly on here tonight. Thank you! :D

  • The Circus is an allegory for life, here.

  • who the heck is Baby

  • i like the line "the different kind of love she thought she'd found, there was nothin' left but sawdust and some glitter"

makes me think of another line from another song..."that's when those louses, go back to their spouses. Diamonds are a girl's best friend."

  • Awesome Ty

  • i think baby is her & she missed the big time/ in this case ,love/ but only the guy who wrote this song knows what it means, as he puts it in the words of a circus. maybee his baby fell off the highwire lol ..

  • Melissa Manchester reminds of Karen Carpenter for some reason

  • A beautiful song I had almost forgotten.

  • Love this song. As I take my time looking for the ones I grew up listening to...it's great to find this and others.
