  • Most people is concerned about the slimy/viscosity of this produce.

My recommendation is: After removing and washing off the spines, chop/strip or cut in any way you'd like, then boil for about 5 minutes and strain.

Also if you do not like slimy food/soup, do not cook Nopales together with other ingredients. Before adding to other foods, first follow the above procedure.

Nopales can also be cooked on a griller, clean them up and cook as if you were doing tortillas. This also avoids sliminess.

  • use a knife to scrape!

  • @Califman831 This variety doesn't need a knife to scrape away spines like the other cactus I've seen. You just need to trim the edge... it doesn't have big spines like most...

this makes it easier for the novice cactus cook, as well as for the restaurants....

and this one does not need to be cooked either... it's great raw in a salad or salsa...

  • i produce 10 000 tonnes of cactus fruit in my ranch , anyone interested?contact me

  • Really good stuff!

  • let us teach the africans on how to cultivate this plant so that they can sustein themselves and their animals and prosperate the world comunity.

  • @crisolsan introducing the prickly pear to africa would do more harm than good. sure it would feed some people but it would quickly kill other native species that the native animals rely on. take australia for example, they are going through drastic measures to get rid of this invasive plant.

  • What about the big spines?

As you don't wear gloves, are you used to the small stickers?
