And I know this because I have friends from those nationalities. Just take a look at the several Korean and Japanese dramas, check who they main leads are and then do a google search to see how they looked before they became famous. The eyelid surgery can be tricky to spot but if you are so fixated on eyelids as you seem, then you will notice.

Having studied about plastic surgery in Korea at university, I think this video lacks a lot and can be quite misunderstanding. There is a lot more to why people have plastic surgery. In the Western there are women who want to look more sexually appealing, yet this is different case in the Asia. Physical appearance is considered a social advantage in such a competitive world in both career and marriage prospects.

The Western influence can be an influence,though I doubt that is going through people's minds when they go through the surgery. Large eyes are attractive and youthful to many and that's what they want.
Westerns can be influenced by other races as well. Tanned skin from islanders,Latinos,Spanish,Mexicans,etc..breast implants,collagen for a more round and youthful face;many races can be associated with this. They may just want a more youthful look.
Fair enough but why do they believe large eyes are attractive? If you study asian art and culture you will not that wide eyes were not always seen as beautiful or ideal. I believe the change came, and you literally see the change in modern asian art, after the West conquered and occupied Asia. I'm black and I know a lot of Asians who have natural double eyelids. Just like I know a lot of black girls with natural long hair including myself. People don't pay attention to all people who have these traits naturally. They always focus on the ones who look like the "so-called" typical Asian, and not all Asians look like that. Having studied about plastic surgery in Korea at university, I think this video lacks a lot and can be quite misunderstanding. There is a lot more to why people have plastic surgery. In the Western there are women who want to look more sexually appealing, yet this is different case in the Asia. Physical appearance is considered a social advantage in such a competitive world in both career and marriage prospects.

Why is this such a big deal to people? It's surgery to reach the ideal of what you think is beautiful. Most women wouldn't get breast implants if they didn't see it as making them more attractive. Are white people with thin lips getting lip injections considered turning their back on their ethnicity? No! but why is white people wanting fuller lips any different than Asians wanting bigger eyes? @Mitsuru: you're right, it's the same. But if you ever go to Asia and read the magazine over there, there's only ONE standard, and this STD is highly unfavorable of the majorities of East Asian. From eyes, nose, ribcage, natural spinal curvatures, legs, etc. Majority of Asian needs to change a lot to be "beautiful". With this current Asian standard, most of Scandinavian, Anglo, Saxon can easily be that very image without doing a thing. this has to do with East Asian history in the past 150yrs

The Western influence can be an influence,though I doubt that is going through people's minds when they go through the surgery. Large eyes are attractive and youthful to many and that's what they want.
Westerns can be influenced by other races as well. Tanned skin from islanders,Latinos,Spanish,Mexicans,etc..breast implants,collagen for a more round and youthful face;many races can be associated with this. They may just want a more youthful look.

Fair enough but why do they believe large eyes are attractive? If you study asian art and culture you will not that wide eyes were not always seen as beautiful or ideal. I believe the change came, and you literally see the change in modern asian art, after the West conquered and occupied Asia. European colonialism has long passed but its legacy lives on in contemporary Asian culture.

Most Asian models now look like flawless like anime characters and many of them dress up like them. I'm not sure when the plate sized anime eyes were introduced,but I'm sure they did an impact.
