i really cried when they announced she didn't won WHY!!! Academy??? her acting here is beyond magnificent there's no words i can describe it,she may not win here but she won my heart its not as great as the Oscars but if i love some1 i stick to it like glue, love u so much Kate Blanchett!!!
@heathey2 because gwyneth paltrow might get in her way (and imho this was acceptable because of gwyneth's superb performance in "shakespeare in love")
@kalurank: I watched both "Shakespeare in Love" and "Elizabeth" and Gwyneth, tho' much more beautiful than Cate, didn't impress me (I can't remember anything of her role). Believe me, I'm a shallow person, usually I prefer the conventionally beautiful actress even if she wasnt as talented). In the first scenes of "Elizabeth" I thought "Why couldn't they pick someone more beautiful?" But damn, I got chills down my spine when I watched Cate playing the Queen. Her performance was breath-taking.
did these people from Academy watch THIS FILM? Did they see this phenomenal role?! are they blind or what? She deserved an Oscar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Googaify For Shakespeare in Love?? Well then Blanchett was robbed. LOL. She's obviously a stronger actor but sometimes awards are handed out based on tenure not strictly talent.
@LAX324 yes for Shakespeare in Love... she was definitely robbed. I can only say that the Academy not the first time showed us that talent is not the most important... crazy
She is also well-known for her portrayals of the elf queen Galadriel in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Colonel-Doctor Irina Spalko in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Katharine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator, a role which brought her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress
In 2007, Blanchett was named as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People In The World and also one of the most successful actresses by Forbes magazine.
"I too can command the wind sir! I have a hurricane in me that could strip Spain bare if you dare try me!"..that line right there gives me chills every time i hear it in this film..the trailer of this film was the reason i got hooked on Cate..after seeing it i went to every video store like a mad man trying to find every movie they got on her..lol
She was a straight shooter. She did what she believed was right. She placed England before maintaining the Tudor Dynasty. To marry would be to share England with another and compromise too much. By refusing marriage, she left no heir, and that was the end of the Tudor Dynasty. She was like captain of a ship, she set the course and traversed the storm to calm water. Precursor to Democratic change.
The song is "My Name is Lincoln" by Steve Jablonsky. It is a soundtrack used for the feature film 'The Island" available on iTunes. Hope you enjoy it.
I was disappointed by the movie overall, especially since Elizabeth: The Virgin Queen is my favourite movie ever, this sequel simply failed to match it. However, her performance in this was flawless.
it was a really good performance, so believable, but she didn't deserve the oscar... Marion cotillard was unbelievable in her performance!... But she deserved the oscar for I'm not there, it wasn't fair...
I respect the actress, but too bad the film did not show the real circumstances surrounding the conflict between Spain and England. The movie even fails to portray the real life appearance of the Spaniards during that era, they were not that much tanned nor that much brunette. These appeared and spoke like Latin Americans and no where near like the Spaniards.
Ms.Blanchett's performance in these two Elizabeth I movies are simply put, Superb. She should have won the Oscar, to be honest. Wonderful, Amazing, Excellent portrayal of the Great Virgin Queen. And accurate too, for Elizabeth Tudor had a short-temper, yet was a strong and merciful woman.
the beginning sends chills up my spine.

Cate Blanchett was robbed of two oscars for her roles as Elizabeth. How can either of her performances not be automatic best actress wins.

Cate always make flawless performances which makes her movies interesting. If there are flaws in those movies, they're usually in the script.

The movie in and of itself was almost better in concept than in execution - I think it left some people disappointed.
However, Cate Blanchett was awe-inspiring, and the "hurricane line" gives me chills every single time I hear it.

"I too can command the wind sir: I have a hurricane in me that will strip Spain bare, if you try me". She dreaded the Spanish
armada less than the precedent of
killing "God's anointed queen" (Mary of
Scots).
