I agree. This should have been a heritage site or museum. Most building were still in use so it was safe. Has anybody been in the tunnels or no where they are located
it is so so sad to see that almost all of Longbridge has gone, surely parts could have been used as apartments, museum or alternative factory units, an iconic site, like the cars all but gone. I still feel for the workers of Longbridge, even today
the only way forward for this country is to tax people to death is'nt it? how many other industrialised nations have this absurd doctrine ? it has literally slit its wrist's and is slowly bleeding to death, further evidence of that must surely be the shakiness of the banking industry now! empty shops, sell nothing!!
I spent 8 years working in CAB1 on the old system 1 mini/metro line, and laterly on the R3 (bubble shape 200) and then the Rover 25 line, i took the money in 2000, but it still guts me everytime i drive past whats left. Cheers Tony Woodley, i bet your old plant at halewood on mersyside will be safe though.
VOTE FOR THE NEW DEAL, AND LONGBRIDGE GETS THE MINI.
I worked in Cofton, but used to walk through the EW a lot, and sneak down the tunnels :) The problem I see is, if this place is going to be used as residential land they will have a hell of a job as the whole factory was riddled with tunnels, I would have thought it too much of a job to fill them all in, so why not just leave it all as it was and sub out the buildings to other manufacturers?
thanks for posting. i am so upset about it all. i live in USA last 10 years i tell as many people here to buy american or same will happen and the whole world will feel the effects, the whole world will be sorry if detroit goes down. make no mistake.

basically rover dug there own grave wen they sold the mini to bmw
bikerdude96 3 years ago
They didn't sell the mini to BMW.
BMW owned the company and kept it when they sold the company to Phoenix.
badgerlad69 3 years ago
o ok but bmw still runined the mini im sure ull agree
bikerdude96 3 years ago
There will only ever be one Mini, and that ended production in 1999.
What is on the road now is a BMW with a mini badge.
badgerlad69 3 years ago
i totally agree with you there i dont know how they have the cheek to even call it a mini
bikerdude96 3 years ago
Basically BMW only bought Rover Group (as it was) for the Mini brand & 4x4 technology of Land Rover.
badgerlad69 3 years ago
to be onest i wud rather see mini and land rover go under completely then be owned by the germans

Jaguar Land Rover is owned by TATA of India
badgerlad69 3 years ago

bikerdude96 3 years ago

My sentiments exactly Sailorbouy98.
Sold down the river by the union.
And BMW looting us for the best parts ie Land Rover 4x4 technology and the MINI brand.

Because nobody cares about manufacturing in this country now, which is a bloody disgrace.

Such a shame to see it now, I worked in the Old West and that's now been flattened.

The East works or Powertrain Ltd as it was called when BMW off loaded us was the engine plant.
So no cars were built in here.
The 'k' series, KV6 and the 'old' A series engines to name but a few were manufactured and assembled here.
I was on the 'con-rod' line.
During the war (Uncle Albert?) Lancaster bombers were built here.
Thanks for your interest.
