As much as I enjoy loads and loads of tragic villains, I also admire Anno's Skill to create complete Monsters without making them seem ridiculous. There are abstract things like the Angels (Go fight a giant Rhombodekaeder!) but also perfectly realistic, human villains like Gargoyle or Gendo. Anno can make up as well written villainous characters without having to give them redeeming features or making them angsty - the 'heroes' usually have enough of that, don't they? XD

Yes, absolutely! Gendo is the most evil guy i ever seen in an anime. He actually dont really make "evil" stuff or say evil things like stereotype-villains, though. Hes not even acting like a fictional person (with all that comic-relief stuff), his acting is more the "realistic evil". Cold, obscure, Accounting. Like some ruthless, real existing person from this world, a boss or something.

Not to mention SEELE which is even more evil and obscure than gendo.

Well, if you'd like to get down to it, Gargoyle is also the greatest schemer in this series; he brilliantly unleashes his ambition from the time of his introduction up until (and throughout) the final episode.

His dreaded intellect and cunning, along with his ability to plan for nearly every eventuality, make him one of the most complex, worthy villains I've ever seen in any form of media.

Yes Robert that man is Gargoyle. There is also a CD drama of him speaking about the need to establish a new Atlantean control in the world, and in the end there is Nemo calling him to make that photo-hologram.

Gargoyle was a close friend to Nemo, before their ideals clashed.

Cd drama is an audiocd with only the voice acting (so it's not a true "episode" because it lacks the visual part) but it expands some obscure parts of the series. So in the serie there is not this scene, it's an extra bonus.

Gargoyle(gurgeu) is a fanatic that want to (re)create a Atlantic Empire(Neo-Atlantis).

Cuz of the reason that the humans where createt from the atlantic peoples, he wants to slave them(again). I think that Gargoyle is one of the best "bad parts" ever. You can understand why he want to do this, but you know its wrong.

But at the end he was realizing that he was also a human and all of her camerades too.

The all-seeing eye is where the connection it made in the head. It's a common bit of imagery, look at american currency, after all.

It also relates to the idea that some advanced culture helped egypt along somehow, as the Eye appears in their art as well.

The creators just did their homework. It's really amazing how many symbols and references this series contains. The actual myth of the "gods from the heaven" (aliens) who created mankind as a slave race, the all-seeing-eye, the fact that the creators want to take back control over their creation, it all relates with the old accounts of sumeria and today's master conspiracy, occult symbols and secret societies with the aliens at the top of the pyramid to create a global dictatorship.
