nout rong with the cam.except the mirror slap is loud ,takes good pics with the right glass on it..delete phots is easy not diffecult like you say ,press bottom button on left of camthat brings pic up then press buttom above that and it gives you option to delete ,and you can scroll threw all your pics useing the same bottom button.just press the arows on the main dial ..left or right .or go in menu to delete all your pics......not diffecult at all.....

this guy, i have this camera and you can change the playback mode, you can either see just the picture, the picture with info, the picture with detail and the way he said, picture with 5 on top, im not a beginner but not an exper either, but this camera is just perfect, i love it

Read any review of the A200 and it will mention replacing the A100.

Yes, if you have an A100 you cannot use that battery in the A200-A900. Thats why the A200 replaces the A100. So that people buying the entry-level-camera CAN use their existing battery for their new camera if they decide to upgrade. Far better to have better battery technology and replace one camera (ie replace the A100 with the A200) than cripple the entire range just to keep continuity with the aging A100. As I said earlier an A100 owner would not and is not meant to upgrade to an A200.

Would it not be fair to say that the A200 replaces the A100. The A200 is better, but only purchased by someone who has yet to buy their first DSLR. An A100 owner that is looking to upgrade would probably go for a camera that is a lot better such as the A700 or higher. Afterall, there is not much point in owning two medicor* cameras.

Ah well, it is perhaps a continuity thing to fit within the product range. I think I am right in saying that the a200, a300 and a350 all share the same camera-body. If this IS the case then the reasons are obvious due to the manufacturing costs being much lower as there aren't three separate camera-bodies to manufacture.

I've ordered an Alpha 200 for delivery tomorrow. Your run down on it's spec was better than I got from the guys in Tottenham Court road last week.

The battery thing is a bit of a nuisance as I have a couple of the other type already.

From what I can see the Sony is the cheapest entry level digital SLR around, and it has most, if not all the features we're looking for. The downsides you point out are not an issue for me, but worth knowing.

I'll let you know how it goes. ;)

I suppose one could debate the battery thing to death. I think it was a good move as I haven't upgraded at all and most A100 owners probably wouldn't bother with the 200 but go further up the line.

As for the thumbnail views, that's my point. You bag out the delete delay for that view but don't go on to say its only one of four views.

A couple of comments.

Firstly, he negatively suggests the new battery is not compatible with the A100 and the A100 battery cannot be used on the A200. Although this is true it is now infolithium which is better as it shows an accurate % on screen. It is also the same battery across the entire range right up to the A900.

Also he complains that deleting shots is a pain as the thumbnails need to move across. What a joke, that thumbnail view is only one of 4 views.

yeah I have the sony alpha 200k which Is an excellent camera...I was going back and forth at first on which one to buy either the d80 or a200 and it came down to price and i got a great deal on the alpha 200 with a telephoto lens never looked back...the d80 is a bit more expensive...either one can't go wrong

The Canon due to my existing canon lenses. Performance wise, the Sony is aimed as a higher classification. The 1000D is intended as a lowest of the low. If its your first DSLR, it won't hurt to get it though. =:O)

from a personal point of view, I like Sony less than Nikon. From a technical point of view, they both have decades of photographic expertise (Sony has acquired what was left of Miolta when they went under), tons of lenses but Sony has the edge as they have a collaboration with Carl Zeiss, the finest lens makers in the world.

Best thing to do is get into a shop and try them both out.

Ok, so you buy the A100 and use it and like it. Then you want to upgrade to the newer model and expect some snazzy improvements. The A200 doesn't offer enough of them to call it an upgrade, but that's what it is. the A200 is more like they've expanded the range with a newer looking A100 which sits below the A350 in rank. In my personal opinion, the A350 is the replacement for the A100, but Sony say no. That's why it's confusing.

You miss my point. Upgraded cameras generally have new stuff put on them, yet the actual upgrades are minimal. The A350 is more of an upgrade than this.

The A200 runs to a more similar vein with the EOS 1000D which is modelled on the EOS 400D. It has all the same features with some slight upgrades but is classed as a lower spec.

Does that make sense?
