This is such a unique beauty - a perfect union of two great instruments! Have to find myself one (unfortunately for me, I live nowhere near Glasgow!). I'm sure there has to be some hole-in-the-wall shop in New York where I might come across such a beaut. :o)
hey i have foun a mandolin banjo in my basement after my dad brought for no reason at all! its really badly out of tune and i have no idea what the tunning should be! please could you tell me as really stuck right now?
Hi from Australia-I just bought an old Cukoo brand banjo mandolin (1930). Sounds similar 2 yours but I'm still learning! Gives me encouragement post more plz*cheers
As it's tuned the same as the mandolin, you can use any standard mandolin tablature for it, such as those at Mandolin Cafe. I'd recommend not strumming chords though - I think the nature of the instrument means it's better suited for fiddle tunes (such as the one in this video) or something similar.

RatherCrunchyMuffin 2 years ago
that's a mandolin-banjo. Banjolins are different instruments.
Controcazzi 2 years ago 2
and u would know, i have a banjolin, and its the exact same as that one, except newer and cleaner.
Kartashka 2 years ago
a banjolin has four strings, a mandolin-banjo or manjo has eight. but the names have been used for each other forever, so it doesn't really matter.
TheStephenKent 2 years ago
@Kartashka
Actually a banjolin is different - it only has four strings, and the name is a contraction of banjo-violin.

I love hybrid instruments. This would sound really cool with a fiddle, guitar, bass, and maybe bagpipes...

LMAO, I can't believe these actually exist! I thought these were a weird joke!
Very nicely played! I really want one of these!

it cost £58 and came with its original (slightly tattered) case.
