  • Also, press number six repeatedly!

  • Two handsome skinny young men, two wonderful sings, dancers, and actors. It almost makes to want to cry because you miss those days when we had REAL comedy.

  • @meanbluegreengirl101 I know exactly what you mean! I laugh so much when I watch these videos but when I remember that we'll never get to experience this in real life it makes me want to cry! Amazing performers and they were actually ENJOYING what they do!

  • Danny Kaye was off the wall for sure. Unique yes indeed. He appeared with Black and White artists with equal and mutual respect for both. Gay? Camping it up more like. As for Harry Belafonte, well, here's another unique entertainer. Apart from other things he did, he was a great influence towards making Calypso popular. Was Harry gay? I don't know, and don't care. What does it matter in this context? Enjoy the entertainment for what it is. I did.

  • Danny Kaye wasn't gay...unless you simply mean "happy". He was married for decades to his lovely wife Sylvia Fine, who is credited for writing most of his witty song routines all the way back to 1944.

  • Two absolutely charismatic persons...

    I simply adore this video!

  • so excited............lol

  • Thumbs up if you adore Danny Kaye!!

  • 0:51 is epic

  • I adore Danny Kaye always. However, Mr. Belafonte is one of the most elegant men I've ever seen in my life. Even at present, he's 80 something years old and still has that grace and elegance.

  • Goodness that was adorable!

  • Have you all missed the point? Can't people just enjoy 2 great professional entertainers with more talent than all the Britney Spears and Madonnas put together?

  • @kayil31 Thank you.

  • Anyone would look gay in these clothes. The fact that he worked for Unicef, fought for civil rights and was just as good as a comedian, dancer and singer speak much louder than any "slips" of his "hips". There was a talk with Laurence Olivier in his time, but Danny was loved because he gave so much love first - he loved the Arts, loved the children and minorities, and he ACTED on this love. Now, he was married for 47 years to the same woman. Today, *that's* a scandal.

  • I love it. Go 'head Harry and shake those hips with your fine self. Danny Kaye was always comical. Loved him too in Hans Christian Andersen.

  • danny kaye is not gay he had a wife.....until he died

  • What in HELL is the significance of any entertainer's sexuality? I see two brilliant entertainers, both of whom I miss very much, clowning with each other and giving us the opportunity to enjoy a little silliness. End of story.

  • Oh how I miss Danny kaye!!! What a fantastic character

  • Unfortunately this is the first time I have heard of Danny Kaye, but this is a brilliant version of this song.

  • Danny Kaye was great performer and so is Harry Belafonte.

Neither of them are gay. Both of them are very funny in this sketch.

  • Dear Drummaboy21 - I suspect "21" is your general age range. You've got to be past 40 to know that glorious, gorgeous calypso singer is the iconic Harry Belafonte. BTW, he's still got it to this day...

  • My dear gay-conjecturing fellow video watchers. Mr. Kaye was anything but gay. I have worked in the food biz since the mid-70s. Danny came to cook at a restaurant that I cooked at (very well respected/known) and cooked that evening with the owner in her home. From what we heard, she spent the evening fending off his advances. Danny just didn't fall into the narrow, beefy, testosterone-addled slot that defines modern American manhood in the 21st Century (I'm so glad I'm a woman, I tell ya.)

  • @Shedorable

Danny Kaye made successful advances toward many men as well. Life is a banquet and he enjoyed himself. He was also a marvelous singer, dancer, actor and comic.

  • Does anyone have this version of the song as mp3?? I have been trying to find it, but without luck.

  • Great harmony!!!!

  • The lyric 'I wonder why nobody don't like me...' How can they say that, they are both gorgeous ... I LOVE 'EM BOTH ... This song makes me giggle, because they are having so much fun.. ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, big smile on my face :0)x

  • 0:20 I think he did that foot thing in The Court Jester. lol (best movie EVER! X3)

  • This sound, this voice, this showman ship...this is great!

  • i like! Much!!

  • a riot!

  • he's brilliant!!

  • The other is HARRY BELAFONTE !!

  • Warum sollen die beiden schwul sein???? Selbst wenn sies wären, hey was solls???

LG mobezi

  • Belafonte AND Kaye? I could watch this clip all day. Anyone who enjoys this should check out Belafonte & Kaye singing Hava Nagila.

And you all, please stop talking about Danny Kaye being gay. I wouldn't care if it was true, but it just isn't factual. Kaye denied it; not to mention he had numerous extramarital affairs with women. A sham marriage to keep up appearance (if gay in old Hollywood) makes sense, but sham affairs on top of a sham marriage doesn't.

  • The long time trini singers was really ugly many people said then if you was not ugly you can't sing ha-ha, not now we have gotten better

THE SONG WAS BORN IN TRINIDAD

  • Danny Kaye wasnt gay - He confided in his wife that he had opportunities but never took them. Also if you study him very closely when he is not performing - he is actually very masculine and was only camp for his performances. Besides he loved the ladies so why bother to be gay!

  • @MsBedwell

he was and still is the BEST!!!!!!

  • So I've searched high and low to find this on any kind of audio media. . . to no avail. Nothing to purchase, and nothing to download.

So I'm now taking my "Best of Danny Kaye DVD" and chopping the audio from it to create an mp3. And yes. . . it is completely worth all of the effort.

  • @Supervandal oh MAN!!! did you put it anywhere where people can download it?? I want the version of this song sooo bad!

  • @jode94 You can always download it using Download Helper. :)

  • @4freespeech really I would say that is more of a reflection on danny kaye's abilities than the state of public opinion on lbgt people. Any man as capable as him would be able to command as much respect today.

  • @drewseleski I'm almost 60 years old and gay. I had no idea that Danny Kaye was also until I read the above. I just thought he was funny, in a way that male comics could be back then. Sure, slightly "effeminate" I guess, but really just being brilliantly silly.

  • @4freespeech Exactly, and there are lots of men just as "capable" as Danny Kaye

was, but the LIE is Hollywood is more tolerant when just the opposite is true.

Unfortunately few on here are old enough to remember or realize it.

The "New World Order" has ZERO tolerance for any humans except the narrow

view of "perfection" dictated by their bizarre "scientific " opinions. The hijackers

who have stolen America want this country as backward as Turkey or Saudi

Arabia. Deny it to your PERIL.

  • @GooglFascists America was stolen long before you came along. John Dewey was a great and terrible "social architect". He was Chairman Mao with not just a little red book---but an entire decimal system.

  • @4freespeech wasn't he married twice if not more?

  • @4freespeech There was a time when men could be close and joke about stuff and still not be called gay(and not be gay too). Danny had a wife.

I think the entire male society is homphobic cause they are just afraid to be close to another male friend.

When we were in college we would boys would hold hands and walk. When my best friend fell in love with a girl and she said yes, she was holding me by the waste and hugging me so tight like I was his girls while telling me in joy. 2day it'd be gay!!

  • Cute!

  • this is a good song hey mama look at boo booo

  • Thanks :) This version of the song is great :)

    "That's nervousness..." LOL

  • That's ethnic ! ;-)

  • @magnusbirk it's my favorite part too

  • I have a really stupid question, who is the guy that's singing along with Danny Kaye in this video?

  • Harry Belafonte sings with Danny Kaye

  • thanks man, I've been tryin' to find that out for ages, but nobody else seems to know lol.

  • dear drummaboy21, this is the great Harry Belafonte. Remeber the banana boat song? Island in the sun? Jamaica farewell...?

  • silly!

  • ..make that "they"in stead of "day" .....

  • Joepie!!!

So glad to see this video back! Aren't day grand!
