I didn't know it was possible to beat him in the first round. But knowing how to duck his special punches, he's very easy. I always defeat him doing the following: when he's not throwing jabs or setting up his combo, I throw a jab to his face and he will dodge it (and I will lose a heart), and then he performs a hook. So, I dodge his hook and hit his face with another jab, and then I punch his belly. It will cost all of the hearts but it's also a fast way to win.

@chadmcbride1 No I'm with you. Two reason for me you can survive Sandman's strongest hit, and he glitches before throws them. SMM doesn't he just sucker punch and swings without warning and Tyson is death walking if he touches your KOed. SMM to me just randomly throws his KO punch I mean I found the pattern b4 he throws it, but sometimes he throws 2 or 1 or 4 of them I swear he threw like 6 on me once. I am always spent when I get past Sandman though, can't beat SMM after that.

@theboombody You can get stars off him in the third round if you delay the second or third stomach punch like I do in the video. It doesn't work for the first two rounds and most people usually beat him or get beaten by him by round 2.

@HexidecimalBeefTrogg I was wondering, because you fight him the exact way I do, and just use up hearts by missing punches on purpose. I was hoping there'd be a quicker way, like I discovered with Soda Popinski by watching another youtube video.

I imagine it would be pretty tough dragging the fight out to the third round. Unless your really, really good at this game, you want to put this fellow away fast.

Normally, Mr. Sandman flashes white and pauses for a split second before starting his rush. All I can guess is that the recording software or the compression made it so that this very brief tell isn't visible in the video.

Based on personal playing experience, he does have a split second tell. He'll stop moving after a flinch styled movement then he'll move in to do that.

A similar thing works with Super Macho Man's spin punch, as he'll speed up his movement suddenly.

Wow! Is the strategy in the timing of the 2 (sometimes 3) blows to the body after you stun him following his response to dodging your high attack? Also, his 3 uppercuts, is it normal for you to get that many body blows from your counter attack?

Sandman was always the toughest for me, and while I knew about his dodge-countering the high attack, I didn't know about about the 1....2 or 1 2....3 hit pattern you displayed, and I don't think I've ever successfully dodged his upper combo.
