@abakusek As said by one of the original producers of Phantom, the health and safety regulations in certain countries restrict the speed of the chandelier crash. You can always tell which country you're in by the speed of the chandelier drop!
Okay, compared to this chandelier, the one on Broadway, the one on London, and if you remember the ones from Los Angeles and San Francisco in the 1990's, which one clocked in at faster speeds? Which one was more realistic?
@titanicfinatic Don't forget Toronto!! My mom went to the one in Toronto in the early 90's...brought me back a love for the show but I'm spoiled and only accept the original London recording XD
@gwhizkids You possibly saw Ryan Silverman. I know Tim was part of the National Tour and the Broadway production as well as the opening cast for the Vegas production, but I don't know if he was actually part of the 2009 cast. He could have filled in for Ryan Silverman.
@TheFormulaChannel Oh really? They must have slowed the NYC one down in recent years. I saw it on Broadway last about 6 years ago. The London one really does fall at an almost realistic speed. I really hope that the NYC production is allowed to speed it up again soon.
@grnday11700 The NYC chandelier does start slower, but then reaches a realistic speed halfway down. Then it violently lurches toward the stage. I saw the production in April 2011. The chandelier was a spectacle, as always.
@titanicfinatic So I was mostly right. lol. I think I saw somewhere that when it opened, it fell at the London speed, and then it was slowed down later. I'm seeing it tonight, so if I remember, I'll post back here about the Broadway speed. lol
@grnday11700 Saw it last night, and it is much slower than I thought. It does speed up a bit, but doesn't crash through the curtains, just kind of stops on the stage. Still amazingly cool.
Man, too bad the touring production's chandelier falls so slowly. In London and NYC (Just the two I've seen) It falls at near-real speed, and is terrifying if you don't expect it when you're seeing it for the first time.
I have only seen the Vegas production and the Chandelier is much more exciting then because it falls into the audience (it blacks out before it lands, of course). And it does fall very fast. It happens at the end of the show, though (like in the movie).
I remember sitting below the chandelier as a little kid in Hamburg. I was so scared when it started to fall towards the stage and I thought it would crash on me because it dropped a few feet before moving forward...
I have a couple of questions... is the chandelier so big that someone could easily fit into it if they were lying down, and was there a point where they crashed the chandelier right on the stage and it broke into many pieces in front of everyone?
In one of my novels, "Hollie Springwood" I had the main antagonist use this very scene to commit suicide, and I show that the crash killed him instantly. I'm wondering if this would be realistic because I actually planned this out beforehand.
I saw it in australia and in an interview Cameron mackintosh said that the australian phantom had the fastest chandelier crash in the world! and god he was right!!
@kitkatkatherine923 cool i'm doing phantom at my school too, but our crash isn't especially good. lets just say a turtle could go from the pit to the back row before the chandelier hits the ground. were just adding a strobe light to make it a little more exciting
@banger1454 I'm hoping my school either does Les Miserables or POTO this Christmas (they are definetely doing a musical) and if they do POTO, I have an idea for the chandelier rising and falling. I think it should be on some sort of zipline!
@simolionshane i think cause in London production they have to do it slow for health and safety reasons i think i watched it on behind the mask thing but in other places like las vegas and new york they do it faster .
@operastar1994 I saw phantom in NY and it was pretty slow, but it also looked like it snagged for a second - I think Vegas probably does it the fastest
@billmalie That's awesome haha! I will be there the 19th as well. You should film ;P haha it's up to you though. I'd be too nervous to but I'd love to find something of this cast Trista is amazing, IDK about Kelly yet :P guess I'll find out on the 19th.

@grnday11700 BTW, that comment was from me. My brother didn't log off his account and I didn't notice. Was it actually fast in Broadway before hand?

@davewriter100 I'm not sure about the show chandelier, but the one in the actual opera house is 3 meters long.
