This is an absolute treat for any ABBA fan! I love, in general, the way Benny and Bjorn play with melodies and lyrics, with some resurfacing on future albums in their career, etc. -- Thanks for posting!
I doubt this or Rubber Ball Man will ever get released, because the best parts of the melody were recycled for the massively-underrated song "Under Attack," so the song was essentially released...
I don't wanna pour rain on your toasty waffles people but if a 120 versions of The Album can be released-all STILL without the 1 bonus track that shoul have been present on the album anyway-GET ON THE CAROUSEL-this song 'Under My Sun' will hardly appear! They couldn't even put 'Dream World' on it-and that was far more mature than this-and it doesn't have bits of T-Rex's 'Get It On' in the music! Shudder!
When they say LIVE, they mean record it in the studio with everyone involved at the same time instead of doing it one track at a time. Companies did this n the fifties and sixties. If someone messes up, everyone has to restart the song.
" Rubber Ball Man " was originally recorded and planned as a single by Abba. During their 1979 World Tour rehearsals, the song was performed as.. " Under My Sun ". However, the group felt that " Gimme, Gimme, Gimme..." had the better disco sound for the times, and that was their choice.. thus " Rubber Ball Man..( Under My Sun ) " would remain just a demo track.
And this was live, as the backing vocalists are heard at the end singing "higher", ABBA never EVER used backing vocalists except for in I Have A Dream. And ABBA themselves have talked about how this song was only ever played live.
Under My Sun and Rubber Ball Man are the same song. They were played live/recorded at the same time (Under My Sun was played live as a warm-up in 1979), and Rubber Ball Man was recorded at the very same time.
So who knows, Rubber Ball Man may have been scrapped, and ABBA may have decided to keep Under My Sun, seeing as they played it live.
Under My Sun is the early version of 'Rubber Ball Man'. My friend has remastered the song and the quality is fanastic. Let's hope that ABBA release Under My Sun and Rubber Ball Man next year for the Voulez Vous Deluxe Edition. A lot of people think that this is live but it is actually done in the studio.
This in fact is taken from the rehearsals for the 1979 world tour. Not sure why they decided to "practice" this song during this time, however it is definately not from any studio recording. As you can hear, ABBA's backing vocalists are in the background.
There are two versions of 'Under my Sun', one with a lot of pre-recording talking (this one) and what might have become an official recording (the 'short' one). I'm not sure if there are two takes or if the pitch was changed from the short one and dialogue added later.
Actually, you speak English quite well for someone who didn't learn it as a first language. In fact, your English is better than some native English speakers here in the US. And, "Bjorn" is Swedish. ;)
The sound is bad, but it's one of my favourite songs. I love it, so funny and nice!! It's a shame, that its not released... I wish it become released!
The sun shines ubiquitously across this soundscape, not to be taken for granted in Scandinavia, that Super Trouper in the sky.

I think the lyrics of "Rubber Ball Man" make more sense than "Under My Sun".

So it's not an early version ;)

It sounds very much like Under Attack, and the chorus is kind of Rubber Band Man, isn't it?

I love it and thank god we have it.
