Priceless video of Doyle with the great Mike Keller on guitar. Doyle touched all who knew him with his kindness and dedication to the blues. Many years many paths crossed. You will be missed Doyle.
RIP Doyle.... we probably would never have heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan if this guy hadn't written and worked With SRV in the mid-late 70's.... sure, John Hammond "found" SRV, but when he did he was already doing Bramhall tunes and some made their way onto Texas flood.. the album that took SRV from austin to the whole world! and Doyle continued with his close friend Stevie up to In Step........ Not forgetting his 3 solo outings on records
I've seen Doyle - between Houston, Dallas and Austin - 7 times from 2003-present, and I have 4 autographed drumsticks, he signed my classical guitar, has written little "notes" to friends who love his music but live out of state encouraging them to "come back to Texas" - and once, when I was two days out of surgery - he and his wife and friends talked to my best and I for an hour at the Continental Club in Houston after the show. It doesn't get better. I love him.
@emiliamota I'm really beginning to wonder why or how blues music is really taking over South America - and namely Brazil - by storm. Why do you think so many people in S. America love the blues, love Bramhall and his son? I think that's a cool connection to explore.
I had an old friend from Texas that partied with Stevie on several occasions, after his concerts. He said Stevie was one of the coolest dudes around, you could really see it in him too. Feel bad that the partying got out of hand but the drugs/booz didn't really effect the core of him, he was still a good guy.
Puh-leeeese! Mike Keller is good, but he can't hold a candle to Jimmie Vaughan. In particular, this performance is not even one of the better ones I've seen. Doyle II can outplay him, too. And stevieraymaniac, you need some history lessons. The guy playing the drums co-wrote "Life By The Drop" with his now wife, Barbara Logan. Doyle, Sr. and Stevie were good friends.
Alright ,besides everyone saying "my guy is beeter that you guy" could somebody please tell me what "can't hold a candle to him" means? I mean come on,when's the last time you held a candle to someone?
Mike wouldn't be playing in Doyle's band if he couldn't play. this guy is good. The bass player can thump too. Doyle wrote many more songs that Stevie recorded.Doyle's a great vocalist and a great drummer. Cool video
The guitarist is Mike Keller. He lives in Austin (for about the last decade), moved there from Fargo, ND. He recently took the guitar chair in Marcia Ball's band. Both Marsha and Doyle are well known for keeping the best sidemen/women around them. One of the guitarists Doyle has recently used on his session is Denny Freeman, who is currently in the Bob Dylan band (and on Bob's new record, that went #1 in about 2 weeks).
Really cool, 1st time i've seen Doyle, DB2's dad and SRV's best mate play (on drums) Whos the guitarist? could give Jimmie Vaughan a run for his money, love JLV though.
amazing performances and blessed video & sound. thank you so much mediahound !

That's sad. Not that he's related, but that you feel the need to cling to the shirttails of a second cousin. Does he know YOUR name?

Met him in Austin after a concert he did. He wouldn't give us his autograph. Stevie would have.
