As a British person, hearing them talking about watersheds and TV licences like it's baffling is weird. British people know way more about American life than they do of ours.
Stewart Lee sucks floppy donkey cock. Another shite BBC PC alternative " comedian" who couldn't draw flies with a mouthful of horse shit. Google Peter Kay, who thought he'd crack America and died on stage saying " this is funny stuff"
I haven't heard very many English comics from this decade, but I have to say that English comedy is behind by a lot. Monty Python is great and all...if you're a 12 year old British boy. At the same time that Monty Python was going strong, George Carlin was reciting the "Seven Dirty Words", one of the most genius comedy routines ever. I just think that England is behind America in comedy. Don't spam me with comments, you limeys.
@EmoSceneKid654 Hmmm.. Fairly interesting point. British comedy was certainly more "slap stick" in the 70s, an era when American comics like George Carlin and Richard Pryor were trying to tackle serious social issues. I don't want to be the arbitrary European guy who says "hey, Danish rap is just as good as American rap" or "Estonian basketball players would beat America any day!", but British comedy has certainly matured and become quite razor sharp.
@EmoSceneKid654 There is no equivolent of "Have I got News for you" in America because it's a style of comedy that's not really been practiced over there. It's surprising how successful British sitcoms in the 70s made huge waves in America, yet our stand up comics very rarely leave the country. Other than Ricky Gervais, have you heard of any others? I'd personally recommend Jimmy Carr, Sean Lock and Harry Hill. Once again that's just a helpful hint, I'm not trying to lecture you like a twat. ;)
@sheepeasy Thanks for not exploding like the rest of these faggots. I guess the only real British comedian I've heard is Ricky Gervais. I'll look up those comedians you listed sometime. Once again, thanks for staying calm, unlike the rest of the cunts.
@EmoSceneKid654 If you're still interested check out Stewart Lee, imo the greatest comic alive although he's ferociously anti-American and more than a little smug so perhaps not all that appealing to you folks over the pond.
@hippotoast If the things he gets on Americans about is true, then I'm totally okay with it. But if he plays that stupid "fat American" card, I'd have to hate him.
@EmoSceneKid654 Search for Stewart Lee- America - The Best Bit, I showed one of my American friends that video and he went into an Anti-British rage rant immediately afterwards. Probably a good barometer of quality.
Unless you're British, you won't understand Russell's fame here. He DIDN'T become famous as a comedian, he BECAME famous as a host of Big Brother's Big Mouth. A show popular with young female viewers. So, considering Russell's good looks, and quirky style on the show - he branched out into stand up, and the loyal fanbase followed. He never earned his position through standup. He's no Frankie Boyle.
@georginiou You're wrong. Russell Brand was doing stand-up way before he got the job at MTV (then BB's Big Mouth). I'm a fan of Russell Brand's stand-up but , hey, comedy's subjective, nobody is right or wrong.
@WrongHeaded07 I know he did stand up straight out of drama school, but it was to very small crowds. He high on drugs a lot of time, and one time inserted a Barbie doll up his arse, and pulled it out on stage. Let's be honest, he became 'famous' doing Big Brother's show. I had seen him TV before then, but didn't know his name. It was only after he blew up Big Brother that he entered newspapers on a regular basis.
@georginiou You implied he's had his success thrust upon him from his BB stint and it certainly made him famous but his stand-up more than holds up. He's one of the most intelligent, witty comics working. And you compare him to Frankie Boyle as if Frankie wasn't a junkie and an alcoholic for the beginning of his carereer.
@WrongHeaded07 First of all, I never said he wasn't a good comedian, and I never said I didn't find him funny. What's Frankie Boyle being a alcoholic got to do with anything? In regards to Russell Brand, I was saying that his early stand-up was usually the antics of a drug addict to a small crowd. You surely can't disagree with this? Before Big Brother gave him a platform he was a fairly unsuccessful comedian.
@georginiou You said "He's no Frankie Boyle". Frankie achieved fame through cleaning up and being a panelist on Mock the Week. Russell cleaned up and got his BB gig - I don't see a huge difference. It was that comparison that irked me. Seems to me that they both earned their place.
@WrongHeaded07 "He's no Frankie Boyle" meaning he earned his success without being handsome and appealing to teenage girls. If you've ever been to a Russell show about the half the crowd are 14-year-old girls who have little understanding of the references Russell Brand makes, and don't care, and are merely there "coz Russell Brand is well fit". I'm not holding anything against Russell, he's a talented guy - but his status as a comedian isn't as firm to me to Frankie Boyle (as an example).
JR is great as a late night show host, but he played a horrible part in this prank, doesn't sum up all of what he does. Whether he's overpaid is up for debate, but this is so out of context for him. Brand is always annoying, not fair putting Ross on the same level- he's not even a stand-up.
OH PLEASE!!!! They think they can come England n be funny... def not from this clip. Such rubbish, What they should have done is interview Ol' Russ and we would see just how funny they really are
I think a few of you lack the ability to effectively understand the ideology behind majority vs minority. Fair enough I'm in the minority on this youtube video, but I BELIEVE if they came ENGLAND with this rubbish they would not take it by storm as they stated in the clip. Simple. So despite one or two people opions here who disagree with me, that doesn't negate my beliefs or have the ability to substantiate cancel my claim.
@kingredz No, I do understand the Majority vs minority, i'm saying you don't speak for everybody. Plus dude, it;s pretty self-important for you to think you know what the rest of us in England want, just because YOU don't like a show doesn't mean others wont, and back to minority vs majority, that's a pretty unfair claim considering you don't have any numerical proof to back your claims that the majority of people in england wouldn't like a show. How do you know?
In my previous response i specifically capitalized the word "believe" which was used to suggest that based on my belief system they would not be successful. I have the ability and the right to make an claim without question. This is a pointless debate however if i was debating something of actual importance i would further humour this conversation. I'm going to continue with my regular schedule life i suggest you do the same.
Actually I just watched some of his stuff. Most of it´s ok. Some of it´s good. he´s no way near as bad as Dane Cook. Still doesn´t do it for me. Maybe i´m just annoyed by his annoying cockney twat accent,
@moroney88 Brand is overrated and gets love from people (mostly women) who go for his whole naughty rock star shtick, but I don't think I'd put him in the same depths as Cook. That ring of comedy hell is reserved for a select few...
I am a massive fan of Louis CK, but I cant help but feel that I am supposed to be offended by this (being british and all)... but I just cant get angry at Louis CK.
yeah me too.....I love Louis, and I like Russell...but the whole incident was unfunny shit....so russell and jonathan deserve everything they get over this.
but they didn't get a fair representation from this, so Louis and Opie etc should seek out more from these two before talking about them like they're nothing.
i love how americans are so backwoods and dated when it comes to the u.k....update you stereotypes, us brits don,t think all americans hate blacks and wear cowboy hats.
My comment was limited to Russel Brand. Don't attempt to mix in a relatively talented comedian like it hides the fact that you have shitty taste. Oh, and Louis CK and Ricky Gervais are friends, so I have synergy for my fanboydom and you don't.
BTW. if your stuff about Sweden was a Brand reference, it certainly lived up to my expectation of his comedy.

yeah, ross is still on the radio now. it's not common to have that sort of radio dj, but occasionally they come along... like chris morris, russel howard, etc
