@Stunatra there are a few differences between the mono album and the stereo album.. Verve did not , nor do they intend to release alternates , the proof being in the lame LP CD issue... There were also other songs that never made it to the album that's just sitting in the vaults. This album was made very similar to Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie, in that there was more than one session with the same songs and so on.
I know i have the Sinatra version too. But the reason i put this one up is to prove that between the mono release of this album and the stereo is that there were two different takes.
This is one of my favorite Ella recordings. She was the best. I prefer the album version to the CD version. Do you know if there are any plans to release the album version on CD?
I doubt it , but so far they have the album release CD...meaning no bonus tracks etc, mono takes , and there is STILL a wealth of material yet to be released from this session....Melancholy Serenade was recorded as case in point.... We'll see what Verve does, so far they were doing great , then a new guy took charge and it's now taking forever on anything .
@stuyone I wish....they duped everyone into thinking it would be a better release than what it was....There were other sessions that were part of this album, much like Clap Hands Here Comes Charlie.... Meloncholy Serenade is still yet to be issued too...
Thanks it's been something I've been meaning to do for quite some time. When they issued this on CD, there was another session alternate takes and such (none of which was released). During the original release on LP. The mono version is different than that of the stereo LP. Most noticeable is Ella's vocals on the two tracks, as well as the trumpet of Harry Edison.
Love it!

It's amazing that on the mono issue of this seems some songs were recorded differently as apposed to the stereo version of the same album
