  • I would kill to read his extensive collection of odd and rare books about magic.

  • Nice trick... But if you're the mechanic, you're gunna want to have a partner you can deal to to win the money then split the winning. Else people get too suspicious that every time you deal.... you win with a stonking hand.

  • @Brucy6666 Much of Ricky Jay's work is often erroneously considered to be genuine card cheating. He does employ methods of card cheaters (and does them exceptionally well), but his routines themselves don't possess much merit as far as cheating at poker goes, though they are modeled in a way that might lead someone to surmise that if they've been around for long enough just to see the routine once.

  • id be stunned if anyone actually tries to vs him in a game of poker. at the very least you wouldnt let him shuffle the cards or your may as well just give him your wallet lol.a true genius

  • us players can play on pokerview

  • Andy Serkis should play him in the Biopic

  • 45-48 something sneaky there

  • mother fucker

  • Get a 600$ sign up bonus when using referral code: FTUS600

  • I know he's a master magician and I certainly do not doubt his skills, but I wish he would have a single shot for videos like this. And as I read the comments below I see that others agree.

  • Everyone knows that Fulltilts cash out is is rigged!!! You win and god forbid you cash out you will lose the next grand you play..Thats BS. That’s why real live webcam poker on pokerview has me hooked cuz I don’t worry about these bots or fixed software and shit.

  • This is horrible, horrible video editing. It should have been presented in a single, uncut long shot, to give Ricky Jay the credibility he deserves. No cuts at all. Anyone (who is not Jay) could have just used video editing to fool the viewer into thinking he is seeing something he is not. What Jay does is brilliant because he can do live, in-person, close-up sleight of hand and still fool you. Shame on the filmmakers.

  • @LoudCitizen Is there a place where I can learn this? you can PM me if you want

  • he's always impressive - 0:47 is interesting-hand out of sight, but really cool

  • @rondop8376

  • i figured his cups and balls routine out

  • Cool!I got Free $600 using this Fulltilt poker Referral code POKERDEAL14

  • No paid audience, just pure skills...Screw Criss Angel.

  • only in ak :D

  • What a master. He's definitely in the top 6 for the top card manipulators today.

How often does he practice? Also, do you consider people like him 'no lifes'? If you can make money off of what you do/what you are good at, it's just like anyone else who makes money from their job.

  • type 'he can turn a pack of cards into a turtle' into youtube

    its impressive and hilarious

  • @Kounteron

you my friend are an idiot.Just because you cant explain the trick there has to be camera cuts.I mean,i wouldn't give people like you accounts on youtube.

  • isn't this done the same way as triumph?

  • No. It involves at similar method though, incidentally.

  • I'm really confused- some shuffle sare obviously zarrow shuffles and others you can plainly see are not. Can someone please explain this?

  • AWESOME!

  • "I just HAAAAPPEN to have ..." You da man!

  • does anyone have any idea how this is done?

    ITS CRAZY!!

  • i can say to you, its very well composed card manipulation, thats all im gonna say :)

  • david blaine, criss angel are using set-up stages to do magic, they dont have any skill in doing magic at all

  • So true i prefer the older magicains

  • I VE NOW WATCHED A COUPLE OF VIDEOS !

AND THIS GUY IS A MAGICAN FOR INTELLIGENT PEOPLE.

Because he has skills and his skills are real and hes a fucking devil to practice that much !

Stupid people like "magicans" like Chris Angel or David Blaine

And even the late great David Copperfield wasnt a real magican in my opinion, though a great showmaster !

  • @1Drummer88 loool m8...im not saying that ricky jay is bad but u cant tell stupid for chriss angel and david blaine or even copperfield duude !! have u seen any of their tricks??(not card tricks)

Althouh ricky jay is awesome ..he is doing only card tricks that's why he s the best in cards

  • @mario... Criss angel isn't a magician. Magicians make up their own tricks. Criss uses other peoples materials. Criss also uses camera tricks to do his "magic".

  • I believe you are severely underestimating the flexibilty of magic as well, magic and as a qualified and flexible medium of art. Many magicians have in the past asserted that there is no original magic. I find this sentiment to be wholly true, each magical effect builds/takes from that of another magical principle/sleight, and there is truly nothing wrong with this.

  • @superchef78 Ricky Jay gives credit to the people he uses their material in shows. Criss doesn't, that's the difference

  • @1Drummer88 david copperfield isnt dead..

  • @1Drummer88 When expressing strong opinions, it helps to have your facts straight. Copperfield may be great, but he's not late. Perhaps you were referring to Doug Henning?

  • @1Drummer88 David Copperfield is still alive and he was very good at close up magic when he started out in the early days, he then focused on the big stage illusions which somewhat detracted from his close up abilities. I cant say with any certainty how much of his close up work was original to him but he performed it very well

  • @1Drummer88 ricky jay doesnt do much magic, mostly he does suedo gambling demonstrations, i think "magicians" some times forget that just because you doing a trick under the disquise as a demonstration doesnt make it magic, cutting to the aces isnt magic its showing a skill thats practiced even if the method is a lie, michael vincent is a magician

  • @TheBradTobin Ricky Jay is a magician, a magic historian, and other credits. Cutting to the aces is an actual magic effect. Yes it can seem like an exhibition of skill but it's still fall into the genre of magic.

  • @RS1963 I think what he was trying to say is, yes he uses the same methods as magicians, but rather than presenting them as magic, he presents them as pure skill. We know as magicians that he is not doing exactly what he says he is doing, but he certainly isn't pretending to do magic.

  • @1Drummer88 the late great copperfield? He's still alive, and performing. And he is a real magician.

  • @1Drummer88

I think that you will find that David Copperfield is still alive...

  • @1Drummer88 late great? hes not dead...

  • @1Drummer88 Mostly cus he admits that what he does, is NOT magic, but lots of very good sleight of hand..

  • nice routine, doesn't appear too technically difficult.

  • @Zendishwasher1 please, practice and when you'll have his skills post a vid :D

    Amicaly,

  • well obviously you haven't seen any of my videos. nor am i saying i am as skilled as ricky jay, but i have been doing magic for over 30 years so i think i know what i am talking about.

  • so why dont u do a video of routines like this one.. i would love to see u doing this one..

  • A-m-a-z-i-n-g.

  • i bet hes banned from playing real poker..

  • Ricky Jay is incredible.

  • Genius

  • This is from " The Secret Cabaret " with Simon Drake!

  • Comment removed

  • then you should be able to see that at the beginning :P

  • Does anyone know from where this is taken?

  • is he not using a stripper deck?

  • fair question. But I get the feeling the man's a purist.

  • i dont know the whole trick but i can tell that the cut at 0:55 is a really interesting false cut. watch the queen of clubs.he slides the BOTTOM part away and takes the queen with it staying on top. great false cut, he just changes the position of the top card =)

  • It's called the slip cut. One of the most basic table moves you can perform.

  • what do you do in a slip cut?

  • he's amazing but after figuring out a differnt one of his tricks, its alittle usetting becuase i know how this one works now too

  • i think he is the best magician in the world ! ! !

  • he's definately the master of false shuffles. i've never seen anyone better than him at it

  • try watch RICHARD TURNER videos

  • at 0:16 when he pulls off a packet for showing half face up half face down.. he pulls out the half that he just riffled in, even though there seems to be no break... amazing

  • today i finally got it out myself..

can do this now and i am pretty proud that i got it without help xD

  • Congrads dude! I understand the shuffle but aint too sure on how he gets it so there is 4 inbetween! feel free to point me in the right direction if you wont!

    Peace

  • i think that after the control he employs regular riffle stacking.... however thats the way i work it

  • One of the few poker demonstration card tricks that I really enjoy. What a great performance.

  • This is great! Thanks for sharing.

  • There is no deck switch.

Great trick though, something I perform occasionally.

Maybe I'll video my version and put it up here to be ripped to shreds.

  • If anyone wants to learn this trick and has some good tricks to trade, feel free to pm me.

  • He doesnt switch the deck. There are a lot of different versions of this effect ranging from quite easy to very difficult. This version is one of the difficult ones. "at the card table" by Darwin Ortiz has a version called Greek Poker that is extremely difficult to perform but very clean.

  • Well I dion't think so becuse in the first scene he's got half of the deck face down but in the second scene he's got only 4 card face down.Trust me,no matter what kind of shuffle you do,you can't do that without a camera cut. Those great magician only use camera cut when it's really necessary .Furthermore his shuffle looks way more fake than in the first scene.I'm now preety familiar with this kind of shuffle. If he riffle shuffles then cut the deck a few times 99%it's a false shuffle.

  • There is definately a camera cut and there are definately false shuffles and cuts (of course) but take it from me, there is absolutely NO deck switch. The deck you see in 0.01 is that same deck you see in 2.03. The only way you can perform this effect is by incorporating (at least one) false shuffle(s). P.S. I perform this live and getting from 26 face down cards to only 4 face down cards is acheivable without a camera cut. PPS. Ricky Perfromed this in front of a live audience, I was there.

  • Guys trust me when i say that there is no camera cut,and definitely no deck switch. This effect is pretty advanced but not impossible to perform,it just needs a lot of practice! If you use your imagination, and have an idea about stacking, you can figure it out!

I must say I prefer Darwin's Greek Poker though. You can check out my channel and tell me what you think of my performance of Greek Poker if you wish,i d greatly appreciate it!

  • @skapyro "Guys trust me when i say that there is no camera cut..." Er... There are camera cuts at 0:15, 0:26, 0:30, 0:38, 0:42, 0:52, 1:07, 1:13, 1:25, 1:32 and 1:59. I assume that Ricky Jay wouldn't use a camera cut to do a deck switch but the assertion that there are no camera cuts in the video is simply false.

  • oh my god, are you so ignorant? Come on, he's a sleight-of-hand artist, that means he uses his own slight-of-hand, prestidigitator if you will. Not stage magician, like david copperfield, criss angel and all others, who don't use sleight-of-hand, but use camera tricks.

  • i later understood what you meant, you probably meant camera transitions, right?

I meant to say that the camera doesnt stop at one moment, another deck is brought in, and continued. Sorry about my statement of you being ignorant.

  • This is a live performance, you can't cut stuff in the real world

  • @cjgone2 I have a very high regard for Ricky Jay and I'm sure the performance is genuine. I assume the performance is live but you never see the audience so it could, in theory, just be a laugh/applause track.

  • @beeble2003 Camera cuts? You're far too influenced by Criss Angel. This man doesn't need to phony his close-up manipulation. There are few individuals in the world of whom it can be stated that they are 'perhaps the best in the world' at what they do. You've just seen one of them.

  • @colininla As I said, I have a very high regard for Ricky Jay and I'm sure the performance is genuine. I was simply addressing the blatantly false assertion by skapyro that there are no camera cuts in the video (there are eleven) and pointing out that we can't be sure the audience is real because we never see it and Jay in the same shot. I repeat: I am sure this performance is genuine.

  • @colininla

as much as i hate to say it, i think there were camera cuts. the first shuffle uses a zarrow (as per dai's original routine) then it cuts to honest shuffles, then cuts to the zarrow again.

  • @Buddyvision2010 the honest shuffles were for stacking cards inbetween, he ended with the zarro because his top stock was up to 20 cards now.

  • @Buddyvision2010 No cuts or edits. You could watch him perform this live.

  • @RS1963

yup agreed. i have recognised my mistake.

  • The only thing that I know is that he switched the deck using the camera cut at 0:27 and then he used some sort of false shuffle. He did this with light speed though so I could't figure out how it's done. Can anyone tell me how to do so?Pleassse.

  • Nice find, That's exactly what he did btw

  • He doesnt switch the deck. There are a lot of different versions of this effect ranging from quite easy to very difficult. This version is one of the difficult ones. "at the card table" by Darwin Ortiz has a version called Greek Poker that is extremely difficult to perform but very clean.

  • WHAT?!?!?!?!?! LOL!!!!!!! omg.

  • Hint for playing poker against Ricky Jay.......

    DON'T!!!

  • Amen to that. Not someone I'd want to play cards with. but he strikes as someone who just because he can, doesn't mean he will cheat...of course...that doesn't meant I'm willing to play with him.

  • @usmctanks1 i figured his cups and balls routine out

  • LMFAO SO F&@%%& nice

  • your crazy man

    i laugh my shit off

  • Laugh ur shit off...

    Weird guy...

  • Magic is magic. What skill this man has to intrigue and amaze the mind - and it's all so seemingly effortless.

  • A lot of "patter" makes it so great.

  • East to beat him in Alaska poker, have him play it in New York, while you play in Alaska (even then he might win!)

  • if i ever play with him, he is not allowed to touch the deck. ever.

  • Oh, he'll get ya. Somehow he'll getcha.

  • Like smugling in cards from his own deck xD

He is truly amazing. A lot of pattern is what mkaes it so great! :)

  • Uh, why does he need to put his hand under the table around the 45 second mark and then bring it up in a way that looks like he's palming something? Then the camera cuts away so who knows what happened between the cuts? I hate multi-angle tricks.

  • Paranoid Android.

  • LMFAO!!!

  • i won't play poker with him dealing

  • Bravo Ricky! That's playing cards!

  • that performance doesnt require a stripper, just great skill

  • nice riffle stack dont play poker with him youll never win... at all

  • anybody know how to do that... thats amazing

  • that's not human...cards control 100%

  • Perfect!!! Bravo!!! Let's see more!!!

  • This clip is from a nineties t.v. show called "The Secret Cabaret Show". It was a fantastic show and Ricky Jay featured most weeks along with David Berglas and Frank (catch me if you can) Abignale.

  • early nineties, channel 4, Simon Drake, why oh why don't they run this show again? It was superb but I don't think it's available on video.

  • Great clip! What show is that from?
