I have MUCH respect for this man. Wow. I love to watch blues musician and just feel the soul they have. And what a piano player. Great stuff. I dig it.

i wish i had such an icon in my family.

  • when was this recorded?

  • Hi Mizzy

I first heard your granpa on an LP in the 60,s live recording by an English researcher/author, Paul Oliver, on an LP , "Conversation with the Blues", Alex spoke for a while about Chock Houses, or barrelhouses, then did Chock House Boogie, with great pianna, & a very infectious laught at the end, he was really enjoyin playin. I also have some of his pre WW2 records + 2 from after war, both great tracks.

He was real good, does any one in your family still play blues?

    Bye

  • Alex Moore died in his sleep on a city bus in Dallas in 1989. I was the county morgue attendant when they brought him in. He was dressed in a coat and tie, very distinguished looking. He had a button on his lapel that said "superstar" and he also had a smile on his face. I learned later that night who he was and I have never forgotten him. I went out the following day and ordered a cassette tape of his music. Been a fan ever since.

  • That one of the best stories I ever heard!

  • Really? True Story. Wow that is really a part of history. It is kind of sad ending to a real talent. Thanks for sharing.

  • He used to play at the Dallas Public Library through his life and taught my father how to play and love the blues.
