What Final Cut are you running? i have the 7.3 and in the services computer i get and error of final cut when i use it like a services...also,in the main macpro, are not using the 8 cores instead i have setting up the virtual cluster.
going to be getting a second mac soon (27" iMac i7) and am definitely looking forward to creating a networked cluster so I can have 10 cores going at a batch. thanks for the tutorial! :)
I set up a cluster of spare Edit suite Macs at work to transcode at least 20 XDCAM discs into ProRes LT for an edit starting a few days later. Compressor absolutely smashed through it. Best thing ever seeing MenuMeters reporting each core pegged at 100%
The video was great! I was wondering what program/application is showing you the processor usage in the menubar on the top of the screen?(The one with the little boxes)
So I am going to try this out with the mac lab that I manage and would like to know a few things.
1. Does Compressor or Qmaster have to be running on all the other service nodes after I set them up in system preferences?
2. All my machines connect to a shared network drive automatically on startup, so does the destination for my output file need to be on that shared network drive?
This is an awesome video! I always wondered how this was done. At my school they have a Lab of 28 Mac Pros that they use for 3D animation and they were talking about making a cluster.
What do you do for a living that requires you to need that much power? I am just curious because I love watching and doing this kind of stuff.
sorry. 7.0.3

Nice detailed vid Mike. I have to admit it was way over my head but maybe I will understand it more if I ever get Final Cut when I get a Mac.
