@Azartusfar In 1995, I was a Frosh and/or Sophomore in high sk0ol (depending on which quarter of year we're talking about). That was the year the Playstation came out and I had one that year (a generation-one). Before that, I had a Sega Genesis w/Sega CD and 32X. Only had one 32X game. Bet you can't guess which one (it was 'Do0m'). That would have been about the time my gaming obsession was transmorphing from 'Flashback' to 'Do0m'. I was a fan of Michael Biehn and Billy idoL.
@Azartusfar What was happening with me, personally, or what was happening in the world? Well, it was the dark reign of the Clintonian Empire. Y2K wasn't yet on peoples' minds. SNL was still funny. Adam Sandler was coming into his own. Oh wait, that's not specific to that date. Awh, hell! I don't know!
Stalker Is one of the most unique and arguably one of the best FPS games out there, Normally I enjoy games Like doom and quake, but this is a graceful exeception. I can play any stalker game for months on end And never get bored. Then I started adding mods....
@OCTI876 I'm still playing it after 3-1/2 years! XD Been making mostly STALKER videos for just under three years now. Over 1/3rd (close to 1/2) of my 1,000+ videos are STALKER-themed. I don't care to0 much for 'Call of Pripyat' or Clear Sky. I like the old STALKER feel. Most of my vids are 'Shadow of Chernobyl' -- vanilla or modded (mostly modded). The majority of those are Oblivion Lost v2.2. Most recent ones are Oblivion Lost 2010. Check them out if you want.
@KnorpelDelux Yep. This was ground zero. Hrm. "Ground zero." Did you ever play a Sega CD game called 'Ground Zero: Texas'? No, it's nothing like STALKER. Anyway, I was so glad once I got ahold of the full version of Fraps.
@IggyHazard Guess you bought Fraps, right? And no...im not that long into PC games and all that stuff. But it seems to me i got a good feeeling for what game is awesome. A friend of mine cant stop playing Stalker anymore. He woke up one morning and had the "mark" on his arm and now he wont stop running to our NPP in Hamburg until artifacts appear in my living room.
Have yee seen mee latest ObLost vids? I did a Clear Sky one to0 focusing mostly on shotguns (also the Viper 5) and a crossover vid focusing on various AKs (ObLost, Clear Sky, and Killing Flo0r). Also did a Saiga vid (not the first, mind you) and a MAC-10 (or maybe it's a MAC-11 that lo0ks like a MAC-10) one to0.
In this, I was using the trial version of Fraps, so I could only record for 30 seconds at a time. Nowadays, they're like nine times longer and usually intro and extro sequences and either music or commentary.
Even back then, I was enjoying the sport of snork hunting. XD Technically, I've been doing that since 2007zors.
I'm honored to know that! XD I've only beaten this game once all the way through. Saved it at just the right spot so I could re-do certain parts in Chernobyl to get different endings. Got three of seven ("wanna be rich," "join C-Consciousness," and "destroy C-Consciousness"). And that was nearly two years ago. Now I savor the essence of the Zone every time I delve into the game.
Actually, I still haven't beaten ObLost! I only beat the unmodded game. Maybe I should go ahead and venture past Pripyat to Stancia and then to the Chernobyl plant! Have you seen Andrei Tarkovsky's 'Stalker' (the movie that part of the inspirado for the game)? I think Marked One lying down in the grass is an homage to the Stalker from that movie (he's simply called "the Stalker"). The other characters are the Scientist and the Writer. The Stalker also mentions his mentor "Porcupine."
If you wish. He's tough to beat though, gotta stock up on PG-7's. In ObLost, after you get the "destroy C-conciousness" ending you go into "Freeplay", where you can just go around exploring and snork-hunting etc.
Pripyat is actually one of my favorite hangout spots, working on a vid but it's hard to deal with all the blowouts. Not much to do in NPP except visit the military trader. Watch out for the BRDM's though.
I'll have to watch both movies, as I haven't seen either. From the cover art of the Stalker film, I see what you mean though. I wouldn't be surprised if GSC did that on purpose.
I'm not sure if "lonely" or "desolate" are the proper adjectives. I'll rephrase thusly: "the eyes of a weary traveller." Marked One, The Stalker, and Wall-E all have those eyes.
It's g0od to know people can still do that! I miss the days when you could just go out into a field or into the w0ods and sho0t cans off a fence just for fun.
What did you mean by "unecessary cocking"? Do you mean that fully auto weapons like assault rifles automatically chamber a bullet and don't need to be cocked normally unless a round fails to cycle or misfires?
I suppose part of the reason is because of games like Counter-strike, where it seems all the assault rifles must be cocked after each reload--the game developers probably wanted to make sure everything in this game seemed "normal" in that respect.
I should make a video to illustrate this because it can be difficult to describe without images for the right hemisphere of the brain to comprehend (that's how I learn best, anyway). If a round is already chambered and you cock the charging handle, you'll eject an unspent casing. Also, if you perform a tactical reload, there will already be a round chambered, and again, you'll eject an unspent casing if you cock it. Also, a lot of firearms have bolts that hold back and only need to be released.
Thank yous. That's one of my faves of the Russian rifles in STALKER, the SIG SG-550 being my fave NATO rifle, and the OC-14 Groza being my other fave of the Russians. One each of the predominant rifle calibers.
I actually got the game a few days ago (Inspired by your videos) :D
The AN94 is quite disappointing :(
There is no proper 1800 rpm 2 shot bursts, the weapon feels weak and is very unreliable. It's basically just an AK74 with higher accuracy and lower reliability :'(
Then you've endured the same disappointments I've endured. There's no point in using 2-round burst. The real-world AN-94 is so much better than this digital counterpart. It's true that it requires more maintenance than a Kalash, but the AN-94 was designed for professionals rather than conscripts. Due to production costs, it's reserved for Spetsnaz. Despite its shortcomings in the game, I still like it. All in-game 5.45 rifles are underpowerd
So what happened in 1995

You're actually the one that introduced me to the whole mutant hunting thing. Before that all I really cared about was just beating the game.

I finished it maybe 3 (?) times, I got those 3 endings and the one where Marked One falls asleep in the grass.
Yeah, I did that too (saving it so you can see the different endings). Kinda cheap XD but I was too lazy to go through the entire game again.
Did you kill the infamous ObLost Controller behind the NPP?

Also, Marked One somewhat resembles the actor who played the Stalker. He has the same kind of lonely desolate eyes.
The Stalker reminds me of Wall-E. XD Watch the movie and tell me if you agree.
