Muy bueno. I've been drawing blood on and off for about 2 years now. Only thing I recommend from watching this is telling the patient they might feel a slight pinch just before you put the needle in.

I have a tip for everyone who is going to get their blood drawn. Pinch your thigh while the nurse/doctor is doing IT. I did this and I didn't feel the pain in my arm only on my thigh :)
Ps. Don't look while they are doing the blood drawing.

When I was getting it done, there was pressure and the nurse wanted to fill up 2 vials. She managed to fill up 1 and 1/4. I knew she couldnt go for 2 because the pressure i was feeling was telling me that she probably did it wrong 'cause the blood was coming out slowly. I'm 19 and I am still scared when I go get 'em.
i am 13 and i had a blood test done today and they couldnt get it so they tried again but still coulnt get it so she tried again and she finally got it but she was going in and out side to side also that made three blood test but also before that i had an mri scan and they had to put that die in and they done it twice coudnt get it and then they done it for the last time an they finally done it so today ive had a total of six needles not a very gd day but thee diie really hurt the first time
@09multikatie From the description you posted here, it sounds like you have pretty small veins. If so, the medical staff should've taken that into consideration and should've used butterfly needles instead of regular ones. Also, the nurses should've used a topical anesthetic first, once the site has been cleaned & disinfected prior to testing.
Im having a blood test tomorrow, my mum is a nurse and she is doing it for me and she said the veins in my arms arent that good. I hate needles and I feel faint thinking about it. lol!! I just got mine done an hr ago and the nurse just seriously did it so quick I didn't realize that she was done with the 2nd tube, by the time i knew it she had stuck a cotton ball on it and i was done! I think what helps is if you've got a pressure ball in your hand you can squeeze that which makes the blood flow quicker which I've done in most of my blood tests. Or you can do the same action without the ball, good tip! I haven't had a bad experience yet but finger pricks scare me the most

@siricadius im afraid of needles too but im not afraid of getting my blood drawn for testing purposes nor am i afraid of getting a shot! when i have to face my fear of needles i ask the person who is doing it questions that way i dont get scared. u should try that sometime.

recently i got my wisdom teeth pulled and they used an IV needle, it was so scary, i was wondering if an IV needle hurts more or less than this? i am so afraid to get it done.
@HeroDanny In my experience I think IV needles hurt me more because they have to go all the way in to vein and remain there and when they take them out it hurts bit more because the blood cloths & dries were its been inserted so removing it felt like broken glass scraping on the way out of my vein. Blood testing is just a sharp pinch and it only feels a bit uncomfortable afterwards for like 5-10 mins max. Maybe bcoz u've got a phobia about it makes it seem like it hurts a lot.Its not as bad lol!
i had my blood test 6 months ago . it didnt hurt like i thought it would be,but i was EXTREMLY terrified, i couldnt sleep all night thinking about it .when she took my blood at first i didnt feel anything ,but after the 6th tube which was the last one i tryed getting up 5 minutes later and i nearly fell , 2 minutes later i got up thinking i was okay ,but i actually fainted , was a horrible feeling waking up ,but i was okay even tho i spent the whole day sleeping haha.

If you tense up it hurts more. But its all in your head.. If it helps look away when they put the needle in. It only feels like a pinch. But if you think it will hurt and get all omg!! It may seem more than it actually is

This shit always makes me nervous because I once had a nurse who missed my vein four times in a row. After four misses they called in another nurse because they saw how pissed I was getting.
People the only thing you will feel is when the needle penetrates your skin and it doesn't hurt.When they take your blood you it doesn't feel anything.
i had a blood drainage on my knee one time. yes it did hurt but all i said was dam. thats because my knee was sprained and there was internal bleeding
i got mine done this morning, and it didn't hurt at all! I was terrified, but the nurse distracted me and i didn't even feel the needle going in :) So don't be scared if you're getting yours soon! It really isn't any worse than getting stung by a mosquito! :)
When I was little, my mom took me and my two freinds to a carnival. I had a bad fever, and mom took me to the doctors afterwards. The doctor pulled out a needle, and I immediatly jump under that bed they have. As mum pulled me out, I broke free, and ran out into the carpark lol.
@hermione1135 ...thankyou for your kind words, Ive got over it now. The weird thing is I had another blood test by someone else(2 actually) and they wernt as bad. I think this was because she used a much smaller gauge needle, and also I think she chose a smaller vein nearer the surface. I believe this takes longer to fill the syringe but is less traumatic. The first lady must have gone for a big fat juicy deep vein, somewhere near my bone! its a lottery I suppose! : )
@occipitalobe666 perhaps she used a different procedure... idk i just recently got over my needlephobia as well, and i had a blood test done last week, i just focused on my breathing and i hardly felt it :) i have small veins so she used a buttefly needle on me and i am prone to fainting so i asked to lie down... maybe try that next time? and ask for a more experienced phlebotomist :) good luck!

@occipitalobe666 Either it wasn't done carfully enough or you're just very intolerant to pain. normally this doesn't hurt, just the sting when the needle goes in. besides, nothing gets numbed when taking blood...
I had one done about 3 months ago it hurt quite a lot and the nurse had to do it in both arms as she couldn't get any blood out of my right arm, feel sorry 4 all u guys that have 2 have it done like twice a year!
duzzent heart at all. (doesn't) Mabye a tiny tiny tiny pinch and that's all. Mabye if you are pretty nervous you can get dizzy when you stand up so relax.
It is not that bad I had 7 vials recently (I'm light weight and fairly young) however make sure you are hydrated. If you are going to have 6+ expect to feel light headed/dizzy. Do not think about it while it's being taken, you will make it worse and possibly faint.
I had one today :D they took 4 vials of blood. I went cold/clammy and could feel lots of sweat around the back of my neck while the nurse was doing it, and I was all white afterwards, couldn't walk properly. Everyone else who was there came out like nothing had happened! I'm such a wimp. It didn't even hurt that much tbh
SAME, i think the reason is cos i had to not eat/drink anything exept water for 12 hrs before it tho, i felt really dizzy and had to sit down for 15 mins b4 i could walk >_>

This guy's fast and friendly. Very well done. Just two words of advice: it's good not to take this procedure too seriously, it doesn't hurt at all when done properly. Second, do not make the phlebotomist laugh too much or you will feel it when the needle moves :p Save your best joke for the pub!

yay, I just got this done this morning, and It doesn't hurt at all. It only hurts when you freak yourself out, but trust me, its nothing to stress over. I am really scared of shots and what not, but you gotta relax, im not gonna lie, there is a pinch, but its not as worse as i thought the pinch would be, but when its in, theres no stinging pain at all. (I was surprised to be honest) the needle used was the needle shown here btw. DONT STRESS

I think it might hurt a little bit the seeing your blood be taken out of your body is freaky, its similar to when you get hurt and bleed everywhere but all concentrated into a little needle and that freaks me out...

Just watching this because I had a blood test 2 days ago and they tried to draw blood from both of my arms and they couldn't get any blood. I'll have to go back tomorrow but I nearly passed out when having it done and was a bit sick because I couldn't eat anyting :(

If you tense up it hurts more. But its all in your head.. If it helps look away when they put the needle in. It only feels like a pinch. But if you think it will hurt and get all omg!! It may seem more than it actually is

ugh this shit is disgusting...-.- if i had to get a blood test the pain would be the LAST thing on my mind. i fucking hate veins..so gross...just thinking about a blood test..feeling that pinch..i feel woozy like i want to faint and throw up. if i ever have to get one i will cry then pass out i swear to god..btw, your veins are repulsive. but so are mine and everyone else's so don't take offence

This shit always makes me nervous because I once had a nurse who missed my vein four times in a row. After four misses they called in another nurse because they saw how pissed I was getting.

People the only thing you will feel is when the needle penetrates your skin and it doesn't hurt.When they take your blood you it doesn't feel anything.

i got mine done this morning, and it didn't hurt at all! I was terrified, but the nurse distracted me and i didn't even feel the needle going in :) So don't be scared if you're getting yours soon! It really isn't any worse than getting stung by a mosquito! :)

When I was little, my mom took me and my two freinds to a carnival. I had a bad fever, and mom took me to the doctors afterwards. The doctor pulled out a needle, and I immediatly jump under that bed they have. As mum pulled me out, I broke free, and ran out into the carpark lol.

@hermione1135 ...thankyou for your kind words, Ive got over it now. The weird thing is I had another blood test by someone else(2 actually) and they wernt as bad. I think this was because she used a much smaller gauge needle, and also I think she chose a smaller vein nearer the surface. I believe this takes longer to fill the syringe but is less traumatic. The first lady must have gone for a big fat juicy deep vein, somewhere near my bone! its a lottery I suppose! : )

@occipitalobe666 perhaps she used a different procedure... idk i just recently got over my needlephobia as well, and i had a blood test done last week, i just focused on my breathing and i hardly felt it :) i have small veins so she used a buttefly needle on me and i am prone to fainting so i asked to lie down... maybe try that next time? and ask for a more experienced phlebotomist :) good luck!

@occipitalobe666 Either it wasn't done carfully enough or you're just very intolerant to pain. normally this doesn't hurt, just the sting when the needle goes in. besides, nothing gets numbed when taking blood...

I had one done about 3 months ago it hurt quite a lot and the nurse had to do it in both arms as she couldn't get any blood out of my right arm, feel sorry 4 all u guys that have 2 have it done like twice a year!

duzzent heart at all. (doesn't) Mabye a tiny tiny tiny pinch and that's all. Mabye if you are pretty nervous you can get dizzy when you stand up so relax.

It is not that bad I had 7 vials recently (I'm light weight and fairly young) however make sure you are hydrated. If you are going to have 6+ expect to feel light headed/dizzy. Do not think about it while it's being taken, you will make it worse and possibly faint.

I had one today :D they took 4 vials of blood. I went cold/clammy and could feel lots of sweat around the back of my neck while the nurse was doing it, and I was all white afterwards, couldn't walk properly. Everyone else who was there came out like nothing had happened! I'm such a wimp. It didn't even hurt that much tbh

No you're not. Last tube stays in the vacutainer until filled, then you release tourniquet, THEN you remove tube, and lastly, the needle. :)

This guy's fast and friendly. Very well done. Just two words of advice: it's good not to take this procedure too seriously, it doesn't hurt at all when done properly. Second, do not make the phlebotomist laugh too much or you will feel it when the needle moves :p Save your best joke for the pub!

I almost fainted when i had one, it really hurt me, she had to switch arms because my veins kept on collapsing and then i found out im anemic :( now im scared of giving someone a blood test in my training because i dont want to hurt them, you seemed to be fine, how did you do that? lol.

yay, I just got this done this morning, and It doesn't hurt at all. It only hurts when you freak yourself out, but trust me, its nothing to stress over. I am really scared of shots and what not, but you gotta relax, im not gonna lie, there is a pinch, but its not as worse as i thought the pinch would be, but when its in, theres no stinging pain at all. (I was surprised to be honest) the needle used was the needle shown here btw. DONT STRESS

I think it might hurt a little bit the seeing your blood be taken out of your body is freaky, its similar to when you get hurt and bleed everywhere but all concentrated into a little needle and that freaks me out...
