Jack Webb rules. Spend many sleepless nights listening to old Dragnet episodes. Also love Pete Kelley's Blues and I just discovered Pat Novak. He deserves a fucking Academy Award. One of the greats.
Actually, he didn't have a 'script'--least not on paper...Dragnet was all filmed using a Tele-prompter. Jack Webb loved it since it allowed him to increase how much he could get filmed in a day or week and kept costs down. Great director that Jack Webb...and damned inspiring too.

His girlfriend was also thinking of leaving him too. He was discouraged and was going to quit the force. Needless to say, Friday talks him out of it!

The two things that I find incredible about this speech is that, with little if any exception, what Friday talks about is true. And, in spite of it all, so many people decide it's a career that's worth it anyway.
