  • Why didn't they remove the fuse from the fuse box or just turn off the power?

Thank you posting this classic episode.

  • this episode is quite good, although its rather dated now, you would now just need your mobile phone to seek help.

  • @meadowlane37 ROFL. Yeah, wouldn't that just wreck the ending?! (I did wonder why they couldn't just toss a couple of chairs through the window or something ...)

  • The soundtrack sounds so posh.

  • wood doesnt conduct electricity

  • Great series, I watched it in 1980 when I was 15, worth another look. This is a great episode.

  • Enjoyed this very much! Was Cushing in any other of these TV productions?

  • @Oboedag ...No, only 13 were made and this is Cushing's only appearance.

  • @arizonabay15 Why does the wife start freaking out but Brian Cox stays so calm right to the last second?

  • all they gotta do is dig under the floor or break through the walls of the house, or find a way to short circuit the wiring. then they could get out...

  • you wouldn't want to be in situation with this stupid pair! Or maybe the moral of the story is don't buy a house that right next to a motorway if you have to scream for help!

  • The postman is due at the house in ten minutes anyway. I'm sure he'll report the matter to the proper authorities.

  • @arizonabay15 One hopes, anyway. If this was set in Canada today those two really *would* be toast: the national postal service is currently in a strike/lockout situation.

    :-)

  • @MrsNorris55 .... They say there is always an episode of Star Trek showing somewhere in the world at any given time, i would add there's always a postal dispute going on somewhere too.

  • They need to get out before they are too feeble to do so. This looks like a good reason to burn the place down - and the flame ought to get the "emergency services" (police included) moving. And busting a window help them avoid suffocation :)

  • Smash the dining table against the door and they are free hopefully at least the wood from the table does not conduct electricity so they might be in with a chance

  • @wobber999 Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines. They seem to have a table and at least two chairs ... and those kitchen windows would be big enough to let them both get out, even if they only broke one.

  • Saw this so long ago i thought they were always trapped in their house,i forgot that it had something to do with a Pet shop in the first place. It was a fantastic suspense thriller and Peter Cushing, was excellent as the evil doer. Also liked the finish when it showed both of them trapped, great stuff.

  • What was he reaching for or towards at about 3:18? And are they basically trapped in their kitchen -- they can't go anywhere else in the house? And would it break the circuit if they just hurled a couple of frying pans through the window?

What a demonic ending, though ...

  • Storytelling at it's best. The now & hollowood script is : good does battle with evil, good wins, good gets the girl. This the story we are presented with time and again, which is why I've searched out some quality entertainment, thanks for uploading.

  • @Elibobbob Well said! I loved this series a lot.

  • that was good to watch thanks

  • It makes sense at the end....Pretty good movie..

  • @tfkisawesome so how did he and when did he wire up their house then? Oh must be when they were both locked in that room maybe? but it also back fired on him to in the end

  • @Musicmania1968 I meant the title made sense because in the end they're both screaming and no one can here, there for it is "silent"...He must have wired up their house when they were both locked up, like you said..

  • @unclescary2 well yeah you are right, the writter didnt think that...

  • Greatly enjoyed watching this. What a great ending.

  • Tunnel out.

  • I was nearly 15 when this series was first shown in 1980, what a brilliant series it was. I have just watched this episode, great stuff.

  • HAHA that's what you GET! Karma's a B!*@H.

  • Love it. However, they could have smashed the entire window frame and broken the curcuit around it surely!

  • Brokenglass72. thank you so much for posting this I've not seen this since I was a kid and its bloody great to be able to watch them again.

  • once they calm down, they could think to smash the window, then with a wooden leg from the table or something [wood doesn't conduct elecy] knock the device on the window sill off, then they'd be free. easy peasy japaneasy! lol

  • @bladrunner6 well there is a lot of volatege on that...by the way you only get 240 volts. if you are using 1000v then you are going to have to answer the electricity board.

  • Time to pick up a major appliance and toss it through the window...or the wife

  • Time to start digging a tunnel!

... electricity was hooked illegally, so no 'pay or disconnect' notice would ever arrive @.@

  • wow this stuff used to give me nightmares as a kid its still pretty chilling lol, thanks for posting it ,now for the house that bled to death

  • use the non conducting heavy wooden kitchen table to take out the entire window lol, or better still toss his hysterical wife through it lol

  • Peter Is Fantastic!

  • Complete tosh - but great fun.

  • pretty lame episode here, mindless characters, i mean cmon whos trapped by that shit

  • Can't he break the window? How was the window frame wired?

Great story!! Great acting!! Brian Cox was great and Donnelly is a dish :)

  • brick dont conduct eletricity, just knock the walls down or better still the wooden door.

  • For want of a pair of rubber gloves the kingdom was lost...

  • @cottonwhiskersuk rubber gloves has a break down voltage....

  • @cottonwhiskersuk Got to be one of the best comments I've seen on You Tube. That was enjoyable though; sometimes you have to suspend belief otherwise there is no magic.

  • Just a passing thought. How did they do the special affects when then puppy got killed?Didn't see a break in the frame to allow a puppet to replace it.Even looked like it jumped for that second.I know i know..Just it was very realistic and cleverly done for the 70's effect group who must of worked on itP:)

  • excellent, pity there's nothing on like this now for the kids....

  • why not just throw the darn kitchen table through the window ...

  • Couldn't they dig down through the floor LOL Good episode

  • OR HOPE FOR A POWER CUT he he

  • You don't have to hope in England: it's just a matter of time, and often not very much time either. About once a week round here.

Worryingly, that cell doesn't have a toilet.

  • thanks for posting, great episode so eerie and no crappy hollywood happy ending

  • that was great i loved the hammer house. also the tales from the crypt, thanks very much, had a night in and enjoyed that very much

  • That is so creepy and weird. Being trapped in a house and no-one can hear you.

  • What was Blueck trying to do when the panther came up the stairs? Did he deliberately fall in or was he trying to get the panther/Chuck in the cage again? A bit strange that he opened the trapdoor.

  • So all of them are trapped at the end with no chance of escape?

  • He was hoping to get past the panther and then corner it into the open trapdoor: though he was at too much of a disadvantage.

  • this scared the shite out of me when I was a kid, I was haunted by the puppy getting killed!

  • Bloody Great Fun!!

  • My first time seeing any of the Hammer HOH episodes. Not bad, I must say....Being a huge Night Gallery fan, I was turned on to this series by a comment on the imdb board. Glad I caught this episode.

  • THANKS SO MUCH!!! cheers!
