m looking to put a 4.5 to 6.5 inch lift on my 97 xj and i was wondering what problems i might come upon..... would i have to worry much and my u joints? what about the wheel bearings? what kinda of chassis upgrades would i need to get? plz reply im only 16 and i will be using it as an everyday drive.....
Nice XJ's..I own a 92 Laredo Coutry Edition with 5 inches of lift and fenderwells cut out and run 33x12.50 Dunlop Mud Rovers and have no rubbing issues at all..Keep filming guys!
how do you like the ride without the sway bars? i just took mine off 2 days ago. its definitely a lot scarier driving down the road but im lovin the flex i can get out of it now
i have a 94 xj myself ,any idea what it would cost to put enough lift under it for 33's? and by any chance would you happen to know what rear end the green jeep has?
@jeepfreak22 The green one has the stock chrysler rear end. With 3" lift you can fit 31's without rubbing. So for 33's I would prolly get a 4" lift without rubbing.
@CoolTwinJ and if you have rims with a backspacin that makes em stick out go alot taller as i have a 4 inch lift with 235s(28.8x8.8) and i can get them to rub so my way is atleast 3 inch 31s tops and 6+ for 33s, im goin up another 2 inchs next spring and just gonna go with 31s i like to flex......
@jeepfreak22 it depends if you are wanting to trim or not... you can fit 35's on a 4.5-5.5" lift if you trim or get bushwackers... If you dont want to trim then you are lookin at 32's for a 4" lift or 33's with a 6.5". I'm doin the 4.5" with 32's route first then gonna trim and go 33's, THEN budget boost a couple of inches and go 35's, but thats ideal..
@jeepfreak22 weel 4 would be enought but 3 mighgt be enought if u want t9 o do some triming, i just threw 8 inces of lifft under my 91 2 door check out my video the 36's look to small
what size of lift is on that first cherokee that climbs? Also, what size of tires are on it? 'i just bought one and am looking for a mild lift and that looked capable enough for what I go thru..
The green XJ has a 3" pro comp lift and 30" tires. It has been enough for everything we have done with the jeep, and some of it has been pretty crazy. If you just disconnect the sway bar on the front the articulation is incredible.
yeah, its actually my friends Jeep. Apparently sometimes when you have a lift over 6" + and 35" tires or bigger it's better to have two stabilizers, cause just the one can't handle it well enough.
he must have some steering geometry problems because all steering stabilizers do is cover up the problem. I have a YJ on 38's with the stock steering stabilizer and drive it on the highway all the time. I just have my steering set up correctly.
i have a 92 cherokee with stock tires. my stabilizers just old and worn out. the point of it is to not only eliminate the shimmy, that i dont have, but also when you hit bumps to take some of that pressure off of the steering box. makes sudden jerky side to side movements easier on the steering box.
Very nice jeep. im getting a 3" lift soon, but where did you get the roof rack or did you make it yourself? I need one cause having a 31" tire in the back is... an issue.
yeah, the 235's are the biggest you can fit stock without any rubbing, they'll give you noticeably better clearance. I haven't bought any but I'd recommend the quick disconnects too. And get a hi-lift jack lol.
My jeep looks like the green one at the beginning, except black.
I can't really afford a lift (well, I could but I don't know any place that would install it for me) so everything I have is stock. What do you think the outcome of me taking it off-roading would be? Too risky?
hey dude, naw it wouldn't be too risky at all. I've got a 2 wheel drive stock xj I go offroading with pretty often. Since you got 4x4 you will be fine, just don't do anything too extreme or get high centered on anything. disconnect your anti-sway bar on the front and you're good to go dude.
haha i have a stock 92. i was goin to play paintball in back woods. and i was following a nissan pathfinder...but took a slight differnet course and the left side fell through about 6 inches of ice and my differentials got buried in mud. long story short...i was seriously stuck. the path finder had to tow me out...well slam on the gas and jerk me out. it wouldnt even move foreward. yea i know. i got rescued by a pathfinder...sad story haha
thats a nice xj ya got there and mine is running 5 inch lift with 31" baja claws locker in rear soon to be front lockers make a world of difference as much as people dont think they do they are awesome i go mostly in 2 wheel drive instead of 4 in most places!
ya i like both of those xj's but the whit one is like mine on you tube only more modified. I just got quick disconnects for it and it is a night and day difference in articulation.
Only thing....I dont understand the dual steering stabilizers..... I mean one of them is not even in the factory location and they just seem they would just get rock rash before they would become usefull. nice Xj though...im a sucker for a white one.
what size tires do you have on that Jeep?

nice jeep man..can i fit 33s on a 3 inch lift with bushwakers?
WrecklessSTI 1 year ago
I'm pretty sure the bushwackers would give you enough clearence

@WrecklessSTI If I had a dollar for ever person that asks these tire clearance questions, I'd have one bad ass Cherokee.

@CoolTwinJ Minimum for 33" tires without fender flare cut-outs is 6" for no rubbing and max articulation.

Thanks man. I plan on getting some 235/75R15's within the next few weeks so that should help some as far as clearance goes.
