It's rare that a guitar solo plays every note you want it to, at exactly the right time...freaking brilliant guitar work. I think this is one of the more underrated rock songs of the 70's, if not ever. Really too bad these guys never blew up...
Best song on the album, that guitar solo (by Lloyd) is so beautiful it hurts. The lyrics are the saddest, most brilliant piece of poetry I have ever read (and I do read a lot of poetry). I just love the way this album is so fragile, trembling, shimmering, sad and those guitars, so chrystal clear...
@sergejisd because this isn't the sort of music that became a hit single back then. This was underground music and the big singles of '77 were done by people like Barry Manilow, Abba, K.C. and the Sunshine Band and Barbra Streisand. Although rock acts like Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and Kansas scored big hits, the CBGB's scene was definitely not mainstream music, meaning that, despite deserving it, this song could never achieve hit single status.

This solo reminds me of the Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb one. Very Gilmouresque.

@zweiosterei Well, this track was released two years before "Comfortably Numb"...

@discomadame It means that everything beautiful can also be dangerous or painful, just like a rose with its thorns.
One of my favorite songs, and from one of my favorite LPs ever.

@TheElMendigo the album sold very well in the UK tho, they know good shit when they hear it
CrazyDan1984 1 year ago
@CrazyDan1984 indeed they do, which is why their mainstream music, especially today, is generally better than in the US.
