  • Anyone that is offended by this is just silly and clearly has never had a loved one in this condition or cared for one. It is sad that people can see the humanity and cause for euthanizing their animals but somehow can't identify with allowing the dying to just die. Thank you and very creative.

  • I love this DNR song very much. You are singing my thoughts exactly. I want to be a DNR. I never want to be in ICU and on a Ventilator. I want to be in a private room and spend what time I have left with my friends and family. I am willing to be medicated, esp. for pain. I worked as a Respiratory Therapist for 40 years and I have seen so much suffering. ICU is not a quiet place to spend your last days. I want family around me as much as possible. Thank you. Flo

  • awesome

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!!

  • Great vid! I love Nickleback's song Rockstar. I also am terminal (about 6-8 months left). I have a DNR order as well. It is a waste of money as well as painful trying to sqeeze an extra week or two out of a person's body that is worn out or to badly diseased or hurt to survive. I want to be at peace, not hooked up to machines because of someone elses beliefs or desires.

  • @Lynn Jackson. Your an idiot better get thicker skin or find a different profession. Maybe bagging groceries for you would be appropriate?

  • I think that this song is hilarious. I also think you have to have a 'special' personality to enjoy the morbid (or work in the medical field). A true test of character is finding the humor (that is much needed) in the periles of what life hands you. Good job, and btw lynneajackson222, there is a stop button on your computer if you don't like what you are seeing.

    Good Job Yellowlab!

  • Well done. I've been an RN for 7 years and this truly does encompass so much that we deal with on a daily basis. I just had to deal with my grandfather passing away in December. He had a very aggressive form of cancer which took him about a month and a half after he was diagnosed. His kids (my aunt and uncle) couldn't see it for what it was and didn't make him DNR/hospice until the week before he died. He was in horrible pain before that. If you don't like this song, sorry, but welcome to life.

  • That was awesome! Anyone in healthcare will appreciate this one.

  • Great...I think you pretty much said it all!!!There is worse things then death!!

  • Nice...(no sarcasm)...I lost my wife five years ago from so many cancers it would be easier to list the ones she didn't have...She was DNR...She went into home hospice then she went home...All on her terms and at all times surrounded by the people and pets she loved...Her biggest fear was to be hooked up to machines...So to the haters of this song...DEAL WITH IT!!!And to theyellowlab...Again nice song, have a good life and sorry about your dad...

  • Brilliant! I just will all the haters could spend 12 hours a day at a patient's bedside to see what their family member actually goes through all in the name of keeping the "alive". I cannot understand why so many "Christians" are afraid of the afterlife? Don't get me wrong I want to be alive, but I want my life to end when God calls me, and not lay in bed for days or week because my family is too selfish or the docs won't to let me go. If you asked 100 ICU nurses what their code status is......

  • Great song, as an RN, I feel the more exposure to DNR orders the better, they are a very important part of nursing...... Doctors often concentrate just on saving lives, nurses see both sides, saving lives and knowing when to stop and concentrate on comfort and respect for the dying. Anyone who takes offence at this clip should take a step back and shake themselves.

  • I don't get why people would think this is in bad taste at all...it places it in a funny light yes, but you actually address some really important issues in this song and I think you did an amazing job! Posting this to my facebook so my fellow students can see it!!

  • was hey its cALLED BEING FREEEE, IT IS WHAT WE WANTED HERE IN AMERICA,

BUT EVERY ONJE THINKIS THEY KNOW BETTER

  • I'm fire rescue and this is the sick and twisted sense of humor that you develop to deal with the stuff that don't go you way, this was F*&^ funny!

  • Well done you for creating and uploading this. I am a veterinarian and in the UK and in my profession we also have too many patients who are probably kept going for longer than I think they would wish. It is moving to hear the story behind your creation of this.

  • Genious!

  • Excellent! No one gets out alive, how do you want to go?

  • it's a sticky situation considering you're a nurse. i would keep out of it, i'm a ICU nurse too.... but honestly, if it's me, i'd want to be a DNR. currently looking at those DNR medic alert bracelets. just because i don't want to prolong my own suffering.

patients and their families have rights and it's their prerogative to be DNR or not. it is never our place to decide that.

  • Very good video! Well thought out and funny. People that are offended are probably the same one who want to keep thier loved ones alive, when the patient wants to end it. Some times people are selfish !

  • this song is awesome!

I have found myself singing this during rounds LOL

  • I don't get why people are offended by this. Truthfully, I don't think this is all that funny, but I do think it's honest and probably something stubborn family members should be exposed to. There's nothing more frustrating than a family who won't let someone go, even when it's what they want. =P Well, except people who come to the ER willingly, then refuse to cooperate.

  • Awesome song and so true. We have all had patients like this and it breaks our hearts as nurses to see them keep living as vegetables with no hope. Please sign DNR for your loved ones.

  • I think it was in very poor taste, and whoever made it should be considering a new career, perhaps bagging groceries.

  • @lynneajackson222 Thanks for your opinion. I never dreamed that this video would get passed around like this. I lost my dadin 2007 and it was his wish not to be kept alive on machines so we actually placed him on Hospice. They were wonderful and we spent the day before he died playing all his favorite songs together. I didn't mean to offend anyone, honestly. I have difficulty when patient's wishes are not met.

  • @theyellowlab

Evidentally you have never watched your parent suffer and die from cancer or any other awful disease or this would not upset you so much. My mom died from cancer and I fully understand where this is coming from.

  • @lynneajackson222 you need a sense of humor. you are what is wrong with the medical profession. This song sings the truth, many doctors keep a patient alive just so they can continue to suck money, no other good purpose is served to the patient or their family. I see this on a regular basis.

  • @lynneajackson222 : The nurses in this field see more than you could ever imagine. I bet money so many of these people would appreciate this song as they signed the order to become DNRs. There are WAY more terrible things than this on the internet. You go bag my groceries. My wife, who is an ICU Nurse, will keep caring for those who wish it and appreciating this song. Get a life and find better stuff to gripe about

  • @lynneajackson222 Spoken like someone who isn't there yet.

  • @lynneajackson222 you have obviously not worked critical care for long/ or ever.

Come walk 10 years in my shoes....this song is my mantra.

  • @lynneajackson222

Spend a few years as an ICU nurse and come back and tell us how you feel.

  • @lynneajackson222 Clearly you have not watched anyone waste away, soaking up resorces in yet another futile attempt. It is irrational to expect that society (after already giving you two hips, two knees and bypass surgery) should continue aggressive treatment just because you or your family are holding out for a nonexistent miracle..

  • I'm a nursing student doing my consolidation in the ICU. I laughed so hard when I saw this. Thanks for adding humour to a tough issue. A lot of truth said in a jest, haha.

  • Awesome!!!

  • As a nurse, I felt this was a bit in poor taste... you're kind of making fun of people who are dying :/.

But, on the other hand... LOL. Yes, thank god for DNRs. I wish I could make all of these patients DNRs, stupid crazy families grrr.

  • I'd want to sing this song in a talent show. THIS SONG. It's just awesome... and gets right to the point.

  • Vancomycin resistent enterococcus (VRE)

  • I just sent this to the 3 people who'd be most likely to have to make end of life decisions for me, & told them if someone needs to see my living will, show them this email & make them watch this YouTube video, because it says it all. Mom, my GM, & I did this for my uncle when he had end stage cancer; mom & I did it for my GM when she had MSOF. We did it, w/ other family members, for my other uncle when he had end stage cancer, & I did it for mom when there was no hope for her.

  • Love... praise... send this to the legislators!

  • lol. OMG ur gys are awesome. this is such a funy and real istic song. definetly what i would want if i was terminal. good job guys!

  • SUPER COOL!!!

  • what is V.R.E. ( ? ) ( .. spare me the depends on context disclaimer )

  • @pzmtuthcvpvl :

    VRE is vancomycin resistant enterococcus.

    Nasty infection.

MRSA is methycillin resistant staph aureus.

    Nastier infection.

  • @TheresaTV1

Actually VRE is worse. I'd rather have MRSA any day!

  • This rocks!

  • When you're in and out of the hospital, and you just keep getting sicker and sicker, you get to a point where you want peace. To be with your family, not to be in pain, to not have all the monitors beeping and alarms going off. Been there. But I thank God I'm still here.

  • I've been a nurse for a looooong time. I had my DNR written about 10 years ago so no one could say it was because of depression over a condition. Love this song. All that stuff is indeed what I want to avoid. First one tube, then another. Love the humorous side of this. Thanks!!!

  • As a former hospice nurse and an ICU nurse, I have said these same things. Thanks for making me laugh! You understand!!!

  • Absolutely love this!!

  • DNR hard to do ..

  • love ittttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

    you are the tops...

    love our icu crew....

    rt in atlanta, ga

  • This is such a great video!! I posted it on the Fabulous Nurse magazine website!

  • OMG YOU LEGENDS !

  • Laughing my head of!!!!!!! But this is not far from reality....

  • I am a psych RN but my sister is an ICU and I feel this way I am going out and making my advance directive !

  • When I said DNR my doctor put me on Lexapro then Celexa. They said I was too young. Was 50 with a triple bypass. Well, I still don't have a DNR and don't want one. Was just overwhelmed with all the bills. $130,000.00 for a triple bypass and no insurance. But my nurses were GREAT!!!! You guys do a wonderful job.

  • This is great!!!!

  • omg this is hilarious....too bad it reminds me of a patient that i had to txp from one end of nyc to another but hahahaha

  • thanks

  • AMEN!!!

  • Great video......so very true.

  • This song was sent to me by two Hospice RN's one of whom is my wife, I tell you many times in home care givers help with their loved ones final wish........turn it up - double up - That is true love. BTW, we must love these nurse's and so what if they develop a dark sense of humor.........try a day in the life of a Hospice RN. They see more people die daily than a Dr. ( or a mortician who never saw them die and works only with the remains ) and carry on a "normal" life after their shifts?

  • Brilliant!!!

  • LOVE THIS VIDEO!! And working in a hospital, I agree 100% also a good way to educate people!

  • Great work!

  • @theyellowlab From one ICU RN to another...Strong Work!!! There is a world of difference between "can" and "should". Sadly all too often our torture chamber is used to the nth degree on beyond hopeless cases (So where exactly does "Decay" fit into the "H's & T's" of ACLS? LOL). As much as I love my job it can get tiresome flogging the mortally wounded. YEA DNR!!!!

  • Bravo!!!!!!

  • Spent over 6 wks in hospital over 6 wks (14 stents, Quad by-pass, reacted to all pain killers, reacted to both blood transfusions). Wish I could have heard this would have given me a huge laugh....wait my chest staples may have fallen out.....well ok still funny now, ty

    Steve

  • this song is funny, but the words shud be given a second thought that they r very meaningful

  • Great job

  • This is awesome!!

  • as a geriatric nurse practitioner..I know this is the truth!!!!1 Great job guys

  • Personally i want every drug in the box to keep me alive but good job on the song.

  • Oh, Rinice, the problem is when hospitals don't honor that DNR order. My friend is emraged because they kept her elderly mother alive who did not want heroic measure and had an advanced directive in her chart.

  • Awesome!!

  • this is awesome and true!!

  • luv it, luv it!!! Please upgrade the presentation! It is such important information sung to a great laid back tune! Well done, really great lyrics. Thank-you

  • THIS IS FUNNY AS HELL BUT I GUESS YOU GOTTA BE A NURSE TO REALLY GET IT.........LMAO

  • This is the best....if people only could see how shit goes down in the end. Everyone would have a DNR tattooed on their chest.....love it!!!

    ER RN Vegas

  • That is great!

  • I'll definitely have to take this to my next nursing class thanks!

  • Great song! Good job :-)

  • Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed the song. I thought it fitted perfectly, good job.

  • That's great and so true. Hoping to have some tunes all the way to the end, and a deluxe cable package. We all need to realize one true fact, no matter how long you hang on and possibly suffer, NOBODY gets out of here alive. Nobody.

  • Great work! I worked as physician in Hong Kong. In the eastern culture, many relatives hate the idea of DNR. They always request us to do CPR on old age people who have no hope of life. Hope that it will be avaliable in Chinese verison!

  • haha i thought this was gonna be the Testament song sung over nickelback. this actually has a good point though. i like it.

  • DNR! Yeahbsolutely! We used to say we wanted DNR tatooed on our chest! Gotta love our profession...There's nothing like nurse/MD/EMT humor!

  • ha ha, that's awesome! good humor and so true... M., RN

  • *Great job*. I want to have "DNR" tattooed on my chest. I spend my nights taking care of 42 end-stage Alzheimer and assorted dementia patients. Breathin' in and out ain't all that it's cracked up to be.

  • Love the video. Can't help but notice the only comment against, came from someone who is not a hands on care provider but an 'administrator'. As a 20 plus year RN from ICU and ER settings as well as a few surgical

floor postings, this is certainly NOT a surprise.

  • this kicks ass! wish I could link it to the tools in my medical ethics class that said DNR's are murder... good job!!!

  • this is great!

  • Don't brake my ribs doin CPR, if I'm in PEA just let me be. You can give me Morphine but not atropine. I don't want you to intubate cause I don't want to wait. If I'm in asystole just let me be.

  • Incredibly talented

    keep em' coming.

    luv your work.

    from former surg. tech.

    big ugly lethargic Keith

  • Awesome!

  • Frickin awesome!!!!!

  • hahaha That is perfect!

  • hahaha That is perfect!

  • That is why we all need advance directives! I don't want to live like that either. Good Video, thanks guys, from one nurse to another.

  • As long as it is the patient's choice and not Obama's choice!!

  • As an ICU nurse I think this should be required viewing for all.....good job

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!

  • I'm stage 4 terminal cancer and I wanna be a DNR! Love it - thanks 4 the laughs!

  • I'm stage 4 terminal cancer and I wanna be a DNR! Love it - thanks 4 the laughs!

  • Really brilliant, doesn't matter that its really basic video-wise, the lyrics are genius!

  • BE KIND TO NURSES... We keep doctors from accidentally killing you.

  • i want a copy of this video for my lawer so maybe he will listen to me when i say i do wanna be a dnr..

  • fucking amazing. it's terrible but sooo funny.

  • I'm a burn ICU nurse. I love it!!

  • I'm thankful to be in Oregon. I get to choose...

I want to be DNR - Total Donor!

  • I'm thankful to be in Oregon. I get to choose...

I want to be DNR - Total Donor!

  • Does that mean some places you don't get to choose? That's crap if thats true.

  • as a fellow ICU nurse this song is the most amazing thing i have ever heard! i will probably be humming this at inappropriate times around work from now on. LOVE IT

  • Love. It. I'm an ICU nurse, too -- I've had many families that I would love to play this song for!

  • Oh may, that is fantastic! They need some work on the singing but we ICU nurses loved it!!

  • HAHAH THAT'S GREAT!!! Have you ever considered getting DNR tattood on your chest? HAHA I HAVE!

  • I thought I was the only ICU nurse who felt that way. Hilarious!!

  • omg so true worked in hospitals and nursing homes dead on... litlerally lol

  • LOvein' it ladies!!! too funny!!!!

  • AWESOME! WAS, AND STILL IS! YEAH! :D

  • You go girl. I'm an ICU nurse and totally concur. Thanks.

  • I think the Long Care Administrator should be ashamed of herself. Did she even read the bio? It explains it all in there. This was not meant to be shown to patients or families. I felt this was a very cute song!

  • The long term administrator is probably offended because he/she isn't the sucker stuck with having these difficult talks with residents and families so he/she has no clue that this song is both relevant and typical nursing black humour....

  • Working as a RN i beleive this video has great information. Why make love ones suffer? Let the end be peacful and painfree. Living wills, P.O.A. and DNR must be in order before the end is near.

  • @BratCat58

Answer is simple. Nobody wants to die or think about it. As a Pulmonary attending I address code status in the clinic and explain in detail prognosis. More often than not, I fail in my attempt to make them DNR. This is even more sad with the cancer / BMT patients. This should be a topic tackled in the Healthcare Reform...but politically dangerous.

  • My Gram died in Dec. She was very clear about what she wanted: DNR. It took a couple days to get the docs on board, but her remaining three days were comfortable and peaceful. My mum and I both have living wills. This song rocks and explains why some of us choose comfort over heroic measures. Do your loved ones a favor and get a living will. Then they won't have to torment themselves over whether they made the right choice.

  • Excellent. In Dec my 92-yr-old gram wanted to be a DNR. It took a few days to get the hospital on board, but after that it was comfort care for her remaining three days. She went in peace. When I had surgery last month, I had a living will letting my docs know what I wanted, as well as my fam. It's the way to go.

  • Love it . . . so true!

  • Please remix this video by showing your lovely faces. You guys brought tears to my eyes. Great job.

  • Amen from a hospice nurse!!!!!!

  • Major props from a hospice social worker who has these conversations with patients every day... Too bad I couldn't just say "listen to this and decide." Thanks!

  • OMG! I am a long term care administrator and I fully support DNR's and Living wills but this is so completely offensive! I would be horrified if any of my families or residents were to view this video! SHAME ON YOU!!!

  • This is awesome. I wish all my hospice patients could see this! Love the work we all do and your humor in it. Thanks!

  • THANK YOU!!!!

I wouldn't let them do all that to my Mom. She graduated to Heaven a little over a year ago, & one thing, as an RN, that makes her passing easier is knowing I didn't let her be tortured with unnecessary, painful, invasive medical practices. I have no idea why people won't let go of either their lives, or let someone let go, if there is no hope of getting any better.

I swear I am sending this to every nurse I know!

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO IT'S AWESOME!

  • :D I love it! XD

  • I love it! I've been asked to sing for my pinning ceremony and am soooo tempted to ask permission to do this version of one of my fave Nickelback songs!! Thanks for posting this! :o)

  • Amen

  • Brilliant!! I swear if more people saw what a core looks like in real like, they'd all have one! Thank you for the humor, it makes being a nurse easier.

  • OMG this is classic! I swear these lyrics should be in EVERY ICU breakroom ! I know I have a new song I will be singing !

  • I don't know if i think these songs are funny because I was in both sides of it or because once you get in to field you have a wicked sense of humor

  • lol well ya just found a way to make it rich fast after all these years lmao

  • I am an EMT with a 911 service and this is TOO funny. Love it....got to post this to my FB

  • This totally ROCKS and you get alot of love from us hospices nurses!!!

  • I love this video and I definitly wish that the rest of the world would feel the same.

  • nice one

  • good job guys if only the rest of the population could experience what us ICU nurses do

  • Brilliant, Nursing student in the UK and I love it!

  • Im a hospice nurse and this was hilarious, all though death is sad when its time its time. the kevorkian part was a little much but funny anyway!

  • U ROCK! So true, nice to see the creative side of nsg!

  • This is BRILLIANT!.

  • Ha ha Bravo! - am a student and i have to write an ethics paper on DNR - i like ur vid :)

  • I hear you!!!

  • You are so talented. This is really true and a little sad (from an ER doc).

  • OMG!!!!! I'm an ICU nurse who just had a crappy night - this was AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!

  • wow! awesome creativity. love this song.

  • "so hold the gastrografin" lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love it. I just think you could change it to "We all just wanna sign/have DNR's".. Good job though!

  • This was actually pretty well written, good job and doesn't sound half bad either =)

DNR is the way to go.

  • Creative video. I agree with the idea behind the video. I interact with many patients (or society in general) that do not realize we all die eventually. I don't believe in Kevorkian, but I do believe there is a time to let go and let nature take its course. Kimberly, RN, BSN, Oncology

  • what the hell man

  • Just wanna put something out there to some of these people. 1.why is everybody reading so much into this song? It's awesome but wasn't made to spark uproar or anything. 2. Getting an organ donor tattoo or a DNR tat, ultimately won't do anything for you because paramedics and emts and doctors won't think your POLST is tattooed on your chest.

  • I am a RN, and this is what I want for me!!!

  • Excellent............................................................. Highlights what the medical profession have to put up with when families cant let nature takes its course because they cant deal with reality.

Of course, not to mention the valuable beds being filled with terminal cases that should have checked out months ago that prevent others from getting the treatment that could improve their quality of life.

  • As much as healthcare costs in the United States there should be no shortage of beds. I think your post defintely highlights the moral void that exists in this country when it comes to being "for life" and the hypocrisy of that emotionally loaded term when it comes to actually being confronted with life, death and "christian" love of your fellow humans. "....the valuable beds being filled with terminal cases that should have checked out months ago " : the real heart of compassionate cons.

  • i actually work on an inpatient hospice unit i wish this could be our company theme song. maybe have the seasoned employees sing it at all new employee orientations.

  • Awesome chorus. but I must correct you, its called a ventilator not a Respirator! Had that drilled into are heads at RT school.

  • we kept a quadraplegic 92 year old alive for 8 months in my hospital, cause the family wanted max money in the law suit...this song essentially sums up what happened to him over those 8 months...it still haunts me looking at his face at 3am just staring at the ceiling with this look of pure terror

  • This is awesome! I'm getting ready to graduate from nursing school in a month. Kudos to you!!!!

  • Saddened that this video is in error mode I heard it was awesome and wanted to watch it. :(

  • It works in the HQ mode. I don't know why it doesn't work in the other mode.

  • after being in 2 hospitals rst one iwas in,so i i belive in this song !

  • I've been on a morphine drip to control pain before. It helped.

  • Actually the last time I was in ICU in 2007 the nurse was very happy to be there when I awoke from a medically induced coma following a near fatal seizure.

  • I am an ICU nurse and in ICU myself. I do not think the video implies we don't care. Quiet the contrary I think it shows the compassion for those that are suffering and do not truly want to have all the things done to them but are afraid to say anything because of families that hold on.

  • Quality of life is soooo important

being attached to machines isnt living its just prolonging dying
