The difference is whether you are using wordpress as your website or wordpress as your blog.

Personally I prefer to use HTML as my website platform and wordpress as my blog - and in that case I have the latest posts on the front page, the categories on the blog mirroriing the silo landing pages on the website and those posts tend to point to relevant pages in the appropriate silo of my website.

However lots of folks are trying to use blogs as silo structured websites, so I offer this to help.

Question for you - the quick & dirty method of theme silo-ing seems to run counter to the desirability of blogs to display fresh content on the home page.
