genius. we're all so lucky to have experienced this true artist. i'll never take his genuine love for creating art and beautiful songs for granted, ever.
He steals from the best. That first line "I took my lucky break and broke it in two" is variation on McCartney's "Too Many People" which includes the line "you took your lucky break and broke it in two"......People underestimate this guy because of his illness, which is a shame. He's good songwriter in spite of his problems not because of them
@ritter89 i don't take that as DJ stealing the lyric as much as it's a ode to one of his biggest inspirations. he's saying i did what i heard you sing. an ode from one living legend to another.
This is a beautiful composition, both musically and lyrically. People get too distracted by superficial crap like vocals and production quality (in his early recordings). The Beatles used similar chord progressions, except their stuff was produced by professionals. Listen to Beatles demos. Unpolished but extremely melodic pop music--just like Daniel's recordings
When I heard Joy Division for the first time, a new musical world opened up for me and there haven't been many others that have done the same but Daniël Johnston certainly did. He's a great genius.
@Rustyloveproductions I get what your saying, but who's too say whats unfortunate? Please don't take that the wrong way. I'm just a firm believer in the theory of "everything happens for a reason". Any-who, I agree, He would be a fine person to know, I'm endlessly impressed by him. He's a drop-kick to the face of mediacracy... and Justin Bieber.
Fuck all of you, music has nothin to do with how good ur vocals r, lyrics n heart, that's all, nirvana is a shining example. All I here today is shittty lady gaga n that homo Justin beiber. Fuck humanity, our culture is dead
@ejrt5i agree sometimes music decides to come out of not the most skilled of talented musicians is extrange and difficult to understand but happens the ramones, sex pistols and the germs are an example of not very skilled musicians using music as way to express..
@ejrt5 i agree with you mostly...nirvana is awesome.. FAV band of all time. but lady gaga is awesome. she does not compare to beiber at all. do some research =)
@ejrt5 yeah, our culture is dead - thanks to homophobes who say shit like this: "that homo Justin beiber." if you don't like justin bieber or simply don't think he's talented - say that. don't resort to 8th grade rhetoric and using "homo" as an insult.
@Outlandish7777 He could be on some sort of anti depressant medication that depletes his dopamine levels which creates symptoms similar to parkinson's (shaking)
oh, i have EVERYTHING from Daniel, i still haven't heard his latest i have it, i don't like his big releases, i couldn't stand Fear Yourself, but i have stuff NO ONE has, bootlegs I have on audio... anyway, point is, I WANT THIS CONCERT ON DVD OR VIDEO, PAL IS FINE, I PREFER NOT, I'lL TAKE IT, if we talk money, we talk money, be in touch
@likearollingstone257 yeah, i'm sure you're into some great stuff, like the great american poet Jim Morrison, Ride the snake to the lake buy me a cake and a milkshake and the great Kurt Cobain and the whole NOT grunge movement, ha, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, NONE of that was grunge, the MELVINS were Seattle grunge, grunge is heavy and sloppy, you probably think Slipknot is a good metal band, you also don't know Mike Patton is the best w/ Cohen, Johnston, Joe Jack Talcum
@bobethe Um, no. I do like the Doors, but literally every band you listed other than them are terrible, especially the Melvins and Pearl Jam. Not as terrible as this man though. I don't know how you got Slipknot from my name (I'm guessing you saw it and decided to open your dumb mouth). The Flaming Lips, early James Taylor and Bob Dylan is where I'm at. I also like how instead of defending your beloved Mr. Johnston you say nothing about him and start talking about grunge.
@likearollingstone257 i love dylan too man, who doesn't and you probably know that many have criticized his voice. it's still beautiful in its unique way. reading people who call themselves music lover criticize such an heartful piece makes me sad. peace
@likearollingstone257 usually i don't get into music conversations on such inappropriate places, but what the hell. can't say i know much of the guy, but this interpretation is amazing. perhaps it's not musically innovative, but the lyrics, the way he sings. who cares if he's off pitch, out of tune or whatever you say in english. his voice tears you apart. the fragility he radiates through his body and his voice is beautiful. he's so terrible that he's been covered by people like sufjan stevens
none of his songs will ever be too long.. he is such an honest artist... with such honest creations... i cannot help but tear up every time... especially the part where he goes oh oh oh... painfully real
@kikodftm1008 yeah, i saw him twice at a small club in philly at the time of release of rejected unknown, 99? 00?, he was fine, then i saw this tour, it was after the movie, he sells out the TROC in philly cuz of the film, but cuz of the copious amounts of lithium, he could only play three songs on guitar, and it sucked that it was all his "hits" and a back up band, when i was seeing him before lots of great originals on LIVE IN BERLIN, i luv to spread Daniel, KIT if ya want stuff
This is outstanding! The first line is sheer genius. I was at this gig too... first time I'd seen him live and I've since bought his latest album and just find myself wanting more and more. :-)
awesome...a word over used... but this delivery, and this song, has inspired awe in me. This should inspire people to overcome and to express.
