Who ever did this script didn't know the first thing about a black person. A brother in charge would have sent the white people in there first, and when they started hollerin' would have pushed off the other ship and closed the hatched, and took OFF. Right before we would have left, we would have called back to the event horizon and called the whites and said "Hey remember that JIM CROW, and segregation, and slavery! We even now!" And took OFF.
@Chansulus I didn't? I still had to go through some of its remants even now. I went out to Aspen colo, and got racially profiled by the cops. in the book of JOB "Oppression makes a wise man mad." I'm the guy who was in Desert Storm so that you could pay 3 bucks for your gas and get disrepected/oppressed by some racist cops. Even many blacks have to deal w/ its vestiges of id check, and voting poll checks, and credit card checks. It ain't the past, dummy.
I remember hearing about this movie from a friend who saw it and hated it... the more he told me about it though, the cooler it sounded, so I rented it. Freaked me right out! I loved the movie because of the psychological horror, gore, sci fi and hellraiser homages. After learning how much of the movie ended up on the cutting room floor, I was incensed.
@nixieBP yes it is, i will not spoil it for you but ya..... just watch it.. also its a movie where everything makes sense, the decisions they make are ones that real people would make in their positions, something horror movies lack. if you want me to throw some spoilers that will explain why its so scary email me.
When I first saw it, I thought this movie was funnier than anything, LOL. Seeing Sam Neill with the sewed up eyes made me decide that he was awesome, so I went and got more movies with him, hahahaha.
Thumbs up if Family Guys brought you to this. You know, the episode where the store manager fires Meg and Chris bribes hims with a conversation about this movie.
What i find most interesting about this films production is that the director "paul W.S. anderson" directed this film AND he also produced the film "pandorum" which bears many similarities, its interesting how he got away with rehashing, this movie is fantastic, and so is pandorum, but its almost like a sequel...
This movie scared the SHIT out of me not just because of the horror but beacause it was confusing as hell i didnt know what was going on until i watched it like 5 times!
This film was really good for the first half, then took a dive for the worst lol i still like it though. Unfortunately, they spent their entire budget on the big spinny warp core of death, and couldnt afford proper lighting ;)
The interesting thing about this is that Paul WS Anderson went on to make some of the worst Sci-Fi horror films ever made after this. This was his 3rd film, and he went on to direct or write; All the Resident Evil films, Aliens V Predator, and Soldier.
This film had a few problems but for what it's worth... I enjoyed every moment of it. The lighting, the atmosphere, the actors... it was a very unique film and can only hope more films of this artistry can be produced and further explored as time goes on,
@ENightmare69 Almost - but there's no suspense in the latter part of the movie and the story suffers for it. The heros have to have some chance to win, or at least survive, and they didn't. It's like a 5-minute video of a snake in a box devouring a helpless rat that has no defense and no chance of escaping...what's the point? Who would rent that video? Watch the original "Alien" again and you'll see what I mean.
I was really amped to see this, because I love Sci-Fi, but this flick's central theme appeared to be nothing more than 'Human Cruelty & Torture'. It turned into a marathon of vicious & repulsive murders of the entire ship's completely helpless crew. The last 30 minutes were very disturbing to watch and i regret ever renting it. Very Sick...
Anyone remotely interested in sci-fi or thrillers, watch it right now. It was so good that I felt the need to return to youtube where I first saw the trailer and say all this. Type in 'let me watch this' in google, then search event horizon, you can easily watch it from there
I never heard of this movie until just recently, but I really want to see it now! I noticed this was before Lawrence Fishburne did the Matrix. Looks freaky cool.
@BubuSnow93 No way? I just watched this and the entire way through I was thinking how similar it was to Dead Space and that DS must owe something to it. The front of Event Horizon even looks like the front of Isaac Clarke's helmet.
this movie was sick, one of the best sci fi horrors along with Aliens and The Thing. consequently if want to experience all 3 movies you should try the game Dead Space 1 & 2. it has the best elements of all 3 movies and will definitely threaten your sanity.
Some parts were pretty atmospheric, but most of the film was hilariously awful. I don't get why they put in what was essentially the same character as Shrek's Donkey.
A geuinely scary horror movie like this comes along practically once in a lifetime. Aside from this, horror fans'll just have to settle for that Saw and Hostel crap...................how sad.
There's this, John Carpenter's The Thing, The Shining all in one lifetime.
It's just the last decade or so, every horror movie has been about blood / gore and cheap jump scares that leave your mind after you leave the theatre.

Interesting choice of setting, Neptune is remote, dark and cold, but also very active weather in the atmosphere. That way you can have lightning bolts after each dramatic phrase.
For example: "If the ship didnt go to alpha centauri where did it go Doctor Weir?"
When I watched this movie I thought it was horryfying.
Years later I read that some fans like to say it's set in the ancient history of the Warhammer 40k universe, seeing as hyperspace seems to be a lot like the Warp.
Nah, I'm serious. That hyperdrive engine room in the movie was even equipped with chaos-ish spikes of doom. That's just gotta be a shout out and Dr. Weir at the end simply reeks of Chaos corruption. IIRC the hyperspace dimension is even described as "pure chaos" in the movie.
And Miller at the end? Well all that was missing is him yelling: "FOR THE EMPEROR!", as he blows the ship.
The echoing woman's voice & Dr Weir saying they found the Event Horizon. Those bits did'nt feature in the VHS tape when I got it. Was it ever in the cinema release or part of the special edition DVD or never really used. Probably one day in a possible Director's Cut.
theres a deleted scene on the blu ray where weir is at a meeting with some high ranks and they play him the message its basically the same scene where weir briefs them and i think they made the right choice, alot of time some trailer footage doesnt make it into the film as it looks better for the trailer
@xdeiri hmm, I think the same thing you said, maybe that's why dead space is the best horror games until 2010. I saw this list in a magazine, can be found on google too.
@GamesLover5 do you watch it? if not, what do you think that can be found on space? Aliens, Death, Rocks? wrong, fear of the death, any error in space can kill destroy all the ship, the movie is not about what I said but it's scary a lot man, I watched this movie when I was 6 years old, after watch I can't pass in dark places. but I think I will watch again to see what can happen.
Brrrrr.. remember that movie.. and that last scene where he had stitched his eyes shut and said: "Where we are heading, we don't need eyes.." It burnt in my mind, I still feel scared about that film. Solaris was nothing against that and I found THAT one already creepy.
@Ranja86 Rotten Tomato reviewers have a point re: EH tho I believe they're too hard on it. Either the screenwriter or the director or both or someone else dropped the ball on the flick.
It fell short, of that no viable argument can be presented against. The only argument is precisely where.
Pitch Black was a masterpiece. Event Horizon could've been the masterpiece of this horror kink niche but something happened.
While I like the story, the set design was utterly crazy! Who would design a ship like that? Who would keep the CO2 srubbers in the engineroom INSTEAD of the lifeboat section of the ship? And who would design a ship with so many jutting spikes?? Even if the spikes are hanging from the walls, your bound to go to 0-G sometime in space, and such a thing would be a noticable hazard...
And the sound track at the credits was brilliant!- Prodigy: but I won't tell you the name of the song ;) ull need to watch the movie to find that out!
THE scariest movie i ever watched

@Ranja86 I FUCKING LOOOOVE that scene !!!!!!!! Sam Neil is tha man!

What was it

@Ranja86 DICK! I haven't seen the movie yet man, just stick SPOILER ALERT! at the beginning, damn it.

What about Pandorum sucked? I just watched it and thought it was solid; good acting, design and story.

Alien + Solaris + The Shinning + HellRaiser = Event Horizon
Sci-fi horror orgy, with A-list actors and some of the best set designs and special effects I've seen in years. This is a rare gem indeed.
