I plan on doing this once i find a job and save some cash... I don't want to live like most of society today... I wanna live free. I plan to convert a short bus or a van into living quarters...
One thing people dont get about Schoolbuses is they are built much heavier duty then RV's.. Mine has a DT366 .. i get 11mpg on the hwy.. They are far more "Rough Road" capable then over the road RV's.. more ground clearance, heavier suspension.. mine has air brakes... I rebuilt the entire engine, new liners, rings, bearings, gaskets, for under 1K in parts from navistar... I did the work myself.. Allison 4spd transmission.. These things rock...
mark, this is so cool ~ i lived in an Airstream camper when i was very young, and my parents still own it, although it's definately not in great shape anymore, yours is lookin awesome!
Would have been a great help if it had been a "talkie" video. If you make another one, how about telling us what it took to make it, and describe some of the things you had to do to set it up.
this is my question, about the tecnical stuff like the heat, elec, plumbing, tanks, vents, air cond.. Does a bus have as much insulation & heat & are the others set up the same as an RV?
I live in a bus. I havnt paid rent in 7 years! I used to rent but couldn't stand throwing my money for rent. As long as I have my wife next to me in my king size bed life is good. My wife on the other hand would not move into the bus with out a bath room so that was the first thing I worked on.
What gets me is we get a loan to buy a home and we have a 30 year mortgage and if you are asked do you rent or own you can reply own but you are far from owning anything but an agreement. When you own something no one else has claim to it even if you owe no money at all you never own it if.You still have to pay taxes we have seen people loose a home over taxes the property value can be assesed for insane amounts U can't pay and your home is no longer yours. Utube half homeless these people work.
Better yet this person can work construction go from job to job where they can earn $25 an hour 12 hours a day paid perdium sefety bonus among other things. I had such a job and could earn $150k a year doing that. you do that for 10 years then get a job simply for insurance and you can chill for the rest of your life living off the interest of your 10 years work. What you are looking at is a home that almost anyone can collect for under $4K a bus is durable they can only serve our school 25 yrs.
For all the people that look down their nose at this home(Utube)tent cities.RIGHT NOW we have thousands of US living in tents bc of natural disasters and partially of trying to be cool buying all the house they could hock. This person is first being honest with himself. If this man saves just $5.50 a day he can have $10K in just 5 years we all know you can save a lot more than that if you work a minimum wage job this being can own their house every brick when he/she buys their house no stress.
@markg2255 wow very nice house im wanting to do somthing liek this but isnt gas costly? especially with all that extra weight of desks and stuff or is it about the same?

Is the ceiling insulated? It looks like that metal roof could get very hot on a sunny day.
