This episode was made after NBC had already put out the "CANCELLED" shingle out on "The David Letterman Show." They then let Dave do pretty much what he wanted, and the format became essentially a daytime version of the future "Late Night with David Letterman." The set was later changed to the "Late Night" set except the New York skyline was in daylight. Stupid Pet Tricks and Larry "Bud" Melman helped Dave to a daytime Emmy after the show had ben cancelled.
