  • Wouh, that's radiohead' Go to sleep at 1.59! And sound's awesome with that amp. :D

  • Where is this Ac30Hw made?

  • Nice sound. Check my short HiFi Ltd videos that show the sounds coming from a close cousing of the Vox AC15. Handwired in 60s with a simple mod I use the 6br7 (similar to EF86 pentode) channel or the triode channel ECC83. Also check the Pure Tone page in Facebook for more info and pics.

  • Andy, do you play in any bands? You're style is so good and you're damn gifted.

  • Gotta love it when you randomly break out the U2!!

  • that tele.. the single coils.. sound.. fat.. how? what pickups are those andy?

  • I'd like to see andy play a rickenbacker through the amps sometimes

  • Is it only the limited edition red ac30 that has the true bypass stuff for pedals?

  • Great demos on all the VOX handwired series. What are the differences between the Heritage amps and these? Also, I love the VOX soiund, but can these amps be used for heavier music with the right effects (e.g. Tool, Metallica, Sound Garden)? They sound as though with the right tweeks they could pull off almost anything. Also, what is the difference between an EL34 and an EL84? I appreciate your input.

  • @pkava1079 The difference between this and the Heritage is that these have a bypassable master volume whereas the Heritage only has a master tone cut (but they have pentode/triode switches and whatnot). Also with decent pedals, the Vox will do good with heavier rock, almost as good as a Fender. Lastly, an EL34 is basically a "British" 6L6 in warm mid based tone and slightly easier to overdrive, whereas EL84s are super small tubes that can be considered jangly compared to the 6L6

  • Bloody sunday sound amazing well done man!

  • I almost wet my pants when I saw that chassis... sooooo hot

  • who plays the music during the amp description and ending?

  • @cvrtops101 - Andy's assistant engineer Jamie is responsible for that. Thanks!

    -PGS Crew

  • can someone please tell me the tune @ 3:17 ??

  • @louie180 It's U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday.

  • Hey Andy, what tuning you use when playing that Tom Petty song at the beginning ?

  • go to sleep!

  • Comment removed

  • im wiping my tears away

  • Is there a way to put an effects loop in this thing?

  • Comment removed

  • What's the song at 3:50 ?

  • @eduf93 Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2

  • Radiohead +1

  • Hey guys, does the 30 sound a lot different than the 15? I really want the 15 for it's size, but I'm starting to question that. This demo of the 30 sounds even better than the demo of the 15, which still sounds awesome.

  • What brand of strat is he playing?

  • @JACTmusic The "Strat" is actually a G&L Legacy. You can read up on G&L on our website Thanks!

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

Hmm, I thought the strat was kind of mix of Leo Fender, Les Paul and Paul Bigsby. My bad.

  • @JACTmusic Strat -__-' You mean Telecaster!

  • if you had to pick between the ac30h2 or the ac30hw2x which would you choose?

  • Hey Andy,

Are you using a pick or just fingernail? Cool style of playing!

  • Andy's got great taste in music

  • Did you use a greenback or celestion blue-loaded cab for this demo?

  • @skurtix alnico blue :) he says so at 1:45

  • can u jump channels on an ac30

  • 3:07 my favorite song. Andy knows good music.

  • Compared to the Vox Heritage demos, these kind of suck and seem rushed. You didn't go into detail with the features or switch up the volume and gain like you did on the Heritage series.

  • Nice shirt andy :P

  • Damn, at about 1:50 Andy says this amp would be good for a 'late night jam' but I want it to sound good during the day. I guess I'll look for something else.

  • @alanproaudio Ha ha. Rest assured, Vox Ac30 amps sound fantastic day and night. Even the newer Korg built models are far superior to most amps made these days. Even I can't find anything to complain about and I'm pretty anal about tone. But then, it depends on what kind of music you play.

  • Nice playing....you too?

  • why in the hell would he want to waste that talent playing a peavey, or a line 6??? I mean maybe a tube peavey, but a line 6???

  • Tom PETTY!!

  • Any thoughts on how this amp would pair up with my Marshall 4x12 loaded with Vintage 30s? I'm afraid the V30's might make this lovely head sound a bit harsh in the upper mids. The speakers are well worn in though, about 8 years. Ideas anyone?

  • tell me the truth.. i love the edge, i'd like to get his tone as closer as possible.. this ac30 is near to the vintage one?

  • This demo sounded great, but I think Andy's playing rather overshadowed the Vox itself *lol

Nevertheless, I'm still intrigued by this handwired series.

  • have you ever thought doing any line 6 or peavey amp demos?

  • as a fun little project you guys should try to figure out how to play the solo from "go to sleep" using pedals (i know that johnny greenwood uses a computer program or something).

  • Andy, you got a great tone....Thumbs up

  • ahhh great job on the sunday, bloody sunday, I can hear the voice of Bono in the back of my head "Wiiiiiiipe your tears awaaaay!"

  • Best demo yet! Great riffs - awesome tone!

  • Tom Petty!

  • Just bought my first tube amp. A Vox Ac30C2. Now I want one of these instead!

  • I should've known it....

  • love the U2

  • I think I have a man crush on Andy.

  • U2!!!!!

  • "Go to sleep" by Radiohead and "Sunday bloody Sunday" by U2

  • RADIOHEAD RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Is that the LP with the SD59 in the neck and the JB in the bridge?

  • @antoine20555 U2 sunday bloody sunday

  • Something tells me Andy went out and got the new Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers album not too long ago;):)

Anyway, looks like a great amp. It's a shame I lost my job. I don't suppose you guys could employ a correspondent of some sort over here in Michigan (?) :/ lol

  • What was the name of that Radiohead song, I can hear it but I can't place the name?

  • @fullmetalfunk Go to sleep.

  • thumbs up for tom petty at the beginning

  • Thanks for the U2 andy! Phil X wont play me any...

  • good midrange, but i hate the distorted sound a bit, has a lot of "psshhh".

    not quite tube like.

  • Any guitarist playing a U2 song would sound like an unskilled beginner, but that shows just how unskilled the Edge is as a guitarist, LOL

  • @0chappell Edge is an amazing guitarist. I'm not sure what you are talking about.

  • Sunday bloody sunday.

  • Radiohead unbeatable band their riffs are the best

  • I wanna hear freak out by le chic on this amp

  • Are there Gibson Dirty Finger pickups in the les paul?

  • Vox > marshall.

  • Song at 3:30?

  • @08Wylde sunday bloody sunday u2

  • @08Wylde U2 - sunday bloody sunday

  • How I'm just debating between the AC15HW1X and the AC30HW.

I don't play out as much as I'd like (and figure it can always be mic'd), and the more bedroom friendly volumes of the AC15 in the 7.5 watt mode might be better overall for me. But it would be nice to have something that can do any venue too.

  • @Tibbon this ac30 has the half power switch so you can have the best of both, and that extra headroom is nice to keep in your back pocket

  • i should have known it!

  • Any comparison sound wise this vs. the AC15C1?

  • that is one bad little box

  • What the first and second song? Radiohead and Tom Petty?

  • Holy shit that sounded bloody, bloody good! That opening riff, pure tonal bliss!!!

  • Go To Sleep... AWESOME CHOICE... "WE DON'T WANT THE LOONIES TAKING OVER!!!!!!!!!"

Oooooo and then "Sunday Bloody Sunday"... Sick... GREAT REVIEW for an amazing amp!

This makes me wonder... Does Andy just know a ton of random riffs or does he choose riffs and learn them to best demonstrate each piece of gear?

  • Radiohead! you are beyond beautiful Andy! you truly are!

  • That sunday bloody sunday was epic.....wow!

  • Thanks Andy for playing one of my favourite band's song in this video :)

  • Sweet vid as always, but could you start listing the songs you play in the demo? It would probably answer half the questions in the comments.

  • I like how Andy makes a song all his own.

  • The best demo ever.... Tom Petty, Radiohead, and U2. As usual Andy is ace at showing what one can hear from great gear.

  • wats the song at 3:17? and 3:58?

  • @Stryker125 the rhythm part and solo for U2's Sunday Bloody Sunday

  • Woo Hooo!!! Sounds SWEET!!! =D What type of tele were you playing?

  • What is the difference between these newer Handwired amps compared to the ones of a few years ago.

  • @stratocaster7219 The most significant change I noticed was the amount of clean headroom on these newer models. The Handwired Heritage used the EF86 pentode tube on the first channel, these do not.

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos There is something to be said for both sounds to be fair. The older ones had some attitude. That said i suppose the hotmode balances that up.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

So the normal channel is just a lower gain circuit? I have an AC30H2 and the normal channel is quite different eq and tone wise than the top boost. In this demo they sound similarly voiced compared to the AC30H2.

Also, props on playing a U2 song without delay! Sounds great.

  • @mutematt Might sound different without the bright mode on (which as far as I know mimics brilliant channel on pre top boost voxs)

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos how much more or less headroom on the new model? is it better for pedals?

  • @MKdivine I would like to know too!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

So would you say that these newer Handwired AC30s have more or less clean headroom than the older Handwired Heritage model?

  • So I have the original Vox AC30H2, from a few years back when they were "limited edition". Having played both, do you find one that you prefer more than the other or are the tones pretty identical? I would imagine this new one has a little differentiation. Thanks!

  • Hey you guys should do a demo on the new blackstar ht 40!!

    Thad be awesome

  • mmmmm... tasty.... :)

  • Nice U2 cover. Perfect match with an amp like that I suppose.

  • great gut shot---love it nice orange tele eye candy

  • hey andy i was just wondering what gage strings you are comfortable using when fingerpick, are the tens good? or do you use something thicker like 11's?

  • Jesus I wish I could afford tube amps :(

  • @datluigi haha i have the same problem, but there is a small 4 watt vox tube amp for 250 dollars.... it may be small but it is a decent amp

  • @datluigi not all tube amps are super expensive. Always look for bargains on used gear.

  • Nice tom petty riff in the beginning! another stunning demo.

  • Hey now! Just had a couple of questions about the quartet of EL84's.

Is it different tone wise compared to having 2 EL34's?

Is it tied directly to having the 1/2 power switch? In other words, is it necessary to have the 4 tubes to achieve a specific tone when the power is cut in half?

As always, great demo. I love, love, love the Vox tone. Chime to crunch.

  • beautiful!

  • Professional videos. And you guys are dishing em out pretty fast to boot. Any plans with demoing more Schecters? I'd really like to hear the solo 6 custom. Also, is it true that the solo 6 standard has a 25.5 scale? Schecter's website says 24.75... Anyways, thanks for all the sweet videos.

    Mitch

  • @MitchRulzWorld There is some confusion on the Solo 6 scale length. The Standard is 24.75 and the Hellraiser version in 25.5. Thanks for watching!

    -PGS

  • @MitchRulzWorld ditto on the solo 6 custom. im saving up for one now and have yet t ofind a good demo for it

  • skkkkeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttt

  • nice. 'i should have known it' that andy would play some mojo

  • Okay I MUST know what is the tele you use for these demos Andy????? It always sounds FANTASTIC!!!!

  • busted a nut when i heard him play sunday bloody sunday

  • what pickups are in that lovely les paul

also, even though i read andys corner, i don't know what is your main live amp andy, any chance you could tell me?

  • Love it when there's Radiohead in these demos, keep kicking ass Andy

  • @yitboy11 Radiohead kicks ass.

  • Nice grit&tone!

    K.

  • Wouldn't a machine wired be more precise in the wiring, so it would sound better...?

  • @Dugger1997

It's a retro thing really. Vintage guys like it when the wiring is done by actual people. I'm not really sure if it does make as much of a difference in terms of tone, like they say it does. Really, I'd grateful to afford the bloody thing! :D

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies robots don't know how to check and see if they actually did what they 'wanted' to do... actually they can't 'want' at all... anyway... they just do what they're programmed to do... and then us humans have to hope that they did what we told them to do.

  • @Dugger1997

I think handwireds are more popular due to their being less room for error. Machine wired amps are pumped out, while these handwired are a little more special and more time is taken and they may last longer and have better solders. I know my amp is 40+ years old, nearly 50 now, and it was handwired in the USA, so that may attribute to its long life.. Plus just knowing your amp was handwired with love sounds better than a Robot making it. :P

  • @Dugger1997 vintage mojo goes well with snake oil cure alls.

supposedly it is the difference in impedance of turrets/eyelet direct connections as compared to copper traces, also current throughput is in there too for what makes the mojo.

  • @Dugger1997 Not necessarily. Personally, I doubt it makes that much difference - lots of guitarists have fetishes for "the way it was back then". That translates to a nice, hefty markup for manufacturers willing to pander to it.

That said, it's a righteous-sounding amp, but then, it's an AC30, one of the greatest guitar amps ever mande.

  • yes! voxy les paul always wins.

  • This has Jimmy page written all over it. D:
