No tengo mal gusto eh? jejeje

  • MDM always an exciting visceral sound power and loudness even when it is not necessary not much of an interpretation so fixated he was on the sheer sound he could make exciting in a basic way but beyond the impressive sound he never did much for me

Corelli has power and a great top but also poetry a vision of the music albeit a law unto himself but what a palette of colors the shadings and spinning of the line just more interesting and appropriate to the aria

  • @Labienus I agree with your Corelli statement being very accurate. However Del Monaco seemed to be unique in his dramatic interpretations of many roles.MDM sort of adapted a role for his voice as appose to adapting his voice for a particular role.MDM did sing with nuance, mostly early on but always in Otello.Try Forza, early Ballo,O Paradiso,La Juive,The flower song&Cielo e Mar.I saw FC in Trovatore in early 1960s& he was remarkable.I saw MDM in Otello concert form& his voice is more beautifulLive

  • 1:21 wildman, I like it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:21 wildman

  • The great Mario, what a methalic voice, such power in this song. The great Mario 10 Franco 9.

  • Even though Del Monaco is my favorite of these 2 great tenors.I do sometimes prefer Corelli over MDM in different roles, but marginally. They are both a very hard act to follow.MDM has perfect diction and phrasing with powerful low notes, mid notes and high notes&beautiful quality.Corelli had a warm dark vibrating voice that was able to do mezza voce&diminuendos which was very rare for such a big voice. They both had the ability to thrill audiences, even in their decling years.Enjoy

  • I PREFER THEM BOTH JUST BEAUTIFULLY UNBELIEVEABLY SUNG BY BOTH TENORS.

  • No one sang with more intensity and passion than Mario! His villa in EUR was attached to mine. He bought my white Cadillac in early 60's. I patterned my tenor voice after his and we worked together on some Italian repertoire and finally sang Otello with Tebaldi in Boston. But most of my repertoire as tenor was Wagner. It is truly a shame this voice technic didn't continue. His brother taught it to Chechelli, Limarilli and Giacommini, but sadly, opera and that style is no longer in vogue.

  • great video...check out the one I have posted of Domingo singing this aria live on my channel. For the record, I prefere Corelli here! Thanks.

  • preferisco Corelli in quest'aria, ma stiamo parlando comunque di due ARTISTI UNICI IMMENSI E IRRIPETIBILI ....

  • THRILLING voices, and a very rare experience to find live today.

  • Where can you hear such voices today? Where are Tenors like del Monaco and Corelli. Even in Italy, the home of world class Tenors, there is no one, who can compare to those singers.

  • @dg6da They are in heaven , like the Renaissance Painters. The problem might be that few singers want to dedicate 5 to 7 years of study before they actually are ready to appear. Corelli studied Tosca for 4 years while he was already singing.Martinelli who was a spinto dramatic tenor started out singing lyric operas at first. The 1st thing out of a new tenors mouth is Nessun Dorma. Lecitra who is decent, embarrassed himself attempting Forza Del Destino, which he was misserable in.Enjoy

  • heard them both way back in the fifties, mario was my favorite tenor, u can't imagine anymore how big a star he was!!!

  • Great comparison. I prefer MDM here. Good recording too- so much squillo and "buzz." But both were great in this role. Somehow I almost always "feel" MDM's singing more than Corelli's.

  • brava Marisol! Grazie!

  • Ohh thank you my dear. This is a first class video. Respect! I love it. Bravo - MDM & my Francone :-)

    see you Jay

  • Is that you, TenoreCorelli?

If so, I apologize for not believing you about that particular Corelli fan (the lady...you know her name). I did not see it before racheleleeba showed me.

  • Not to make absurd comparisons ;D but I think Corelli had more artistry in some ways, and better dynamic control, as well as a much more stable high C. But Del Monaco's was the bigger, richer voice, raw and primal, never compromising an inch! And he didn't scoop ;P

That said, for a little bit I thought it was Corelli first in this clip, not del Monaco. So great job with the musicality here, MDM! =D Bravo to both, great tenors the likes of which we may never see again, sadly.

  • Ciao

    Dear aaronsande.

As I said before two different ways of expressing the lyric.

    No more comparisons.

  • I hope I didn't offend with my comparison! It is natural to do so when songs are put together like this!
