I never heard of him until after his song 'I'll Come Running" brought me up out of a suicidal state of mind.

Even then, while thriving on that one song I never knew who he was, but that one song kept making me feel better and better about life.

John Mayer was in that video for like 15 seconds and all you saw as the back of his head.....I didn't need to see anymore of him, but thought it was sort of a misleading video....Have Both of Bret Dennen's albums, and both are great! As far as comparing him to Dylan and Paul Simon...I think he's got a long ways to go before you can make those kind of comparisons. Just mho.

I don't typically compare musicians, obviously all music is art and is going to be heard differently by each listener... that being said I think Brett Dennen is legendary. I think his songwriting is on par with Neil Young, Paul Simon, and even Dylan. I think his voice is unique and has tons of style. Remember this kid is still just getting going, as far as john mayer goes.... sorry to say but I think its pretty cheesy. Just one guys opinion.

Well mayer is a worldclass musician and a pretty good singer. This guy is light years beyond mayer in regards to songwriting. This guy gets it, he understands shit ain't right, and he writes it into song so well. Mayer's weakness is his songwriting, he's written 2 songs that i like, gravity and burnin room. Mayers new record is pretty crappy btw.
