I grew up with Battle of the Planets. I only knew them as Mark, Jason, Princess, Tiny and Keyop. I knew Casey Casem's (the Top-40 Radio DJ) voice in Mark, and Keye Luke's (the monk from the1972 Kung-Fu series) voice in Zoltar. I wish a movie would be made using these characters, these names, and similar voices. And hopfully it would be less campy and more deadly serious, the way the movie version of Transformers was.

All these trailers and "new" Gatchaman commercials were part of an advertising campaign for a boy band known as SMAP. There is a North American Gatchman movie coming out in 2010 and a CGI cartoon coming out in 2011.

That is so not how I remember G-Force, mind you I'm 35. The cartoon was way better with Mark, Jason, Tiny, Keeop, and Princess, with the Professor. Their plane was called the Phoenix and they all had vehicles that changed into high tech ones. Like Jason's race car and Marks plane. And yes, Zoltar was a woman. Now if you can remember this, it was the good G-Force

Battle of the Planets shamelessly tried to cash in on Star Wars popularity with the horrible 7 Zard 7 "add ins", and making out the stories were taking place on other planets (which always looked like earth since it WAS earth in the original; series). In this respect, Gatchaman was much better.

BUT, BOTP had better music (fantastic redressed score), voices and, sometimes, plot points. BOTP had G-Force as cerebonicly enhanced, with Keyops speech impediment a side effect.

and some of the writing for Gatchaman was SUPER cheesy, even for anime - Science Ninja Gatchaman? Lol, pa-lease. G-Force sounds far better (and less ridiculous).

On the other hand, Gatchaman had all the violence etc intact, and BOTP ripped some of it out and filled the gaps with lame 7 Zark 7 footage.

The ULTIMATE Gatchaman/BOTP experience would be Gatchaman (no & Zark 7 etc) with BOTP's soundtrack and voice overs - that would be amazing.

Until that happens, they are fairly equal.

@redhia GForce and Battle of the Planets are different adaptations of Gatchaman. GForce is more faithful to Gatchaman than Battle, but Gatchaman is far better because it was heavily edited because of violence and language. Remember this is from the 80's.

Yes Zoltar was a woman on Battle Of The Planets, but in the orginal Gatchaman series, this character was a hermaphrodite. It was a much more adult driven show center only on earth, no space travel. I love both version.

They ruined Gatchaman when they made it battle of the planets. Search the user Malgos09. He has english subs of the japanese version. I find it so much better. Dude, Watchmen came out in 1986 and was the first comic book that was actually considered CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED, and is still one of the few recognized by the literal arts community. Through its' success, this  "stupid comic novel" paved the way for comic books to be recognized as a rich source of ideas for half the movies/games you probably consider to be "ground-breaking" (including many of the anime landmarks).

I never said anything about some of the best animes NOT coming out before '86, and they most certainly had some kind of an influence on the writing of Watchmen-- that's how inspiration works; it inspires one piece of work which in turn inspires another. Gatchaman was one of them, in that the characters were not "perfect" and had basic human flaws, with or without their abilities.

I think the sex scene in the owl-ship was ham-handed and over done, making it almost ridiculous. I think the only thing really lacking in the movie was the "human" element of the film. Watchmen was always about the people under the mask... and they took out so much information about Laurie... that when they finally revealed the big plot twist about who her father was, it really had no impact in the film, when this was the HUGE moment in the GN. (That's all the space I'm allowed to answer)

Okay yeah the Archie scene was more overdone than i'd expected. But you really gave me an answer i can work with. You're abs right about the human factor. What i also thought was cut short was the whole conversation between Laurie and Manhattan on Mars. I felt as if they rushed his turn-around moment. Another thing i thought wasn't well thought of was Big Figure. In the GN he's a real old school gangster type figure, whereas in the movie they just got Kramer's friend :)
