When you first start the game and make your character you see these machines and the enviroment, go to Rivet City and compare. Also check out Moriarty's Terminal (Megaton) or simply talk around with people, you'll find out that Dad (James) peruaded his way into the Vault 'cause of the shortage of doctors down there. Also if you do Trouble on the Homefront quest Amata will tell you that.

Well, you dont have the option to destroy ALL cities. A few of them, but not all. The thing thats hard to choose with destroying the town or not, is that you could get paid a lot of caps (the currency in the game) and get your own house, or you might have the good feeling of not destroying the town, and get paid only a little amount.

Also, IF you could destroy all towns, than that would probably make you evil as hell itself. Sometimes doing bad things pay up well, but have bad consequences, but being good mens your less likely to get in trouble, but you might not always get what you want.

combat wasn't the most important thing about Fallout. Fallout was about interesting characters and quests, atmosphere, immersion, many different ways of solving quests and all the freedom in the world... not just action and gore!

btw: a hummer in fallout? it's the future from a 1950s point of view. They should have 1950s style cars.

true, but one of the most interesting things about fallout was the unique combat style, that allowed you to choose who and when to kill. The atmosphere and immersion are also decisive, but that gore adds a extra spice that you don't see in everyday games...the characters are the ones who count the most (I hope the new AI technology will make the characters more memorable). I don't know any cars from the 50' that have off-road capabilities...I think a hummer is more suitable...:)

(Adding a hummer would just be inconsistent with the 1950s-dystopia setting.
