How isn't it the same? You replace the trees with caves and you still have the same extremist youth using hit and run tactics and suitcase bombs, just a different cause and time. The entire country was filled with ally troops engaging them. From all I can see is is that your "college buddy" died for nothing from your point of view. You're so proud to be Canadian its Taiwan that graces your profile! Your opinion, ha ha, non applicable as you're not even in the Country, or ashamed to be in it.
No, I don't think Harper will, but you will need to watch out for the US government's hand up his ass, it often makes Harper say and do things that he, or no other real Canadian would.
Yes because Iraq was going on before the Afghan mission. Don't make me laugh. The country was an active threat, and proved itself to be an effective one after 9/11, which not only was an attack on America, but the whole western world, which includes Canada. Whenever I get my turn to bat to serve there it will be an honor for me to serve such a just cause.
You may be too young or too inexperienced to understand what you're getting into. Yes indeed, America has been invovled in Iraq and Afganistan for decades. Ever hear of the Gulf War? It's all connected. America also gave the Taliban the same weapons (to fight the Soviet Union) that you are honored to be killed by. I hope for your family's sake, you're not killed like the 84 other Canadians there. A buddy of mine from college got killed in Afganistan, man. This is no joke.
The CIA provided a lot of people with weapons, and believe it or not in the long history of war on Earth, people have actually switched sides! If I recall correctly Osama bin Laden shortly after the attacks broadcasted a list of targets that he said would be attacked, many of which were Canadian. 9/11 proved they were able to carry out such attacks, a proven threat against Canadian national security?Apparently you don't agree. Don't underestimate me.I believe you may the one who is inexperienced.
Save the tough talk for someone who might actually be impressed by it... I'm not. A lot of countries secretly endorse terror groups. One potent terror group, can't be destroyed by conventional soldiers on the ground. Our guys are getting shot by conventional military of a country - not by terrorists. There are terror cells in countries all around the world. A war on terror should be fought with intelligence, special forces, moles, espionage, this type of thing. Anyway, don't think, die!
WerWolf and the Edelweiss Pirates are 2 fine examples of terrorist groups that were destroyed by conventional means. Save YOUR talk for someone who might actually be impressed by it. "Oh we gotta use like laser guns that make counterstrike noises to kill all the bad guys. That would be SOOO cool". Fuck off buddy, you know shit. Hell, I haven't even touched on the humanitarian side of things yet! Anyways, don't think, write!
The Edelweiss Pirates were basically hippies, only in Nazi Germany and they fought the Nazis. This is hardly a fine example of conventional warfare stopping terrorism. They weren't even a terrorist group technically as they were the ones being terrorized. Some of those kids were hanged, or sent to concentration camps. I'm not sure what you're thinking is here, if at all. But you're right, I know shit - you know nothing. Go ahead and kill some terrorists for us, just like the Nazis did!
Actually if you did your research, they also fought the allies post-war using tactics we'd consider terrorism today. It doesn't surprise me you only like reading what makes you look good then stopping.
As you were't clear about time period you were referring to, your argument was left open to interpretation - Ok, so they were an active organization under both the Nazis and the postwar occupying allied forces. Either way, conventional troops did not engage them and defeat them militarily - not exactly. Still not a good comparison for Canadians fighting in Afganistan to stop terrorism. Whatever man, you've got it all figured out, go kill some terrorists, then come back and pump my gas, bitch!
Wow......seeing all those Canadian flags and the people was awesome. Thanks for sharing this video with us. We must always be thankful for our freedoms that we take way too much for granted!!!
Thank you to the soldiers who put their lives on the line for our country.

My family has been in the Canadian military for the last 5 generations but I will be honest to say I cannot support this "War" in Iraq/Afganistan. This is G.W.Bush's war, not Canada's, and these men are dying in vain. Canadians should not be there, period.
they did not die in vain...if and when i get sent over there i'm gonna fight so that my fellow soldiers make it home and if that means that i die so that a soldier can make it back to his wife/husband and children alive then i have done my job.
yeah... right... lets all just sit in our country and take it easy. if everyone helped out, there would be less problems. there is a threat, people are dieing, innocent people are dieing, people are afraid, and something has to be done. stop crying about it and realize that in the future it will be a better place, but only if soldiers stay there and continue to help. think about it, 10 years from now, 20, 50, it will be so much better.
That's great cold war mentality. By the looks of things you play way to many war games on your Xbox, things are not so cut and dry, and war is not like a video game that's for sure my friend.
I am glad that so many of you are viewing this in the spirit in which I shot the video. This is a message of support to our Canadian soldiers. For those of you who are confused about it, this represents a grass-roots movement by Canadian citizens to come out and show their support as the soldiers were repatriated to Toronto. This stretch of the 401 between Trenton and Toronto has been renamed the Highway of Heroes.
I served in Afghanistan for 6 months. If you think us building schools and supplying water to the helpless while trying to restore a working government of their own choosing an act of injustice then fine.
Hey my brother. I am a 26 year serving member. For every one asshole that talks bad, there are a bunch that know what is going on over there. Thank you for your service. Good bless you and all the guys that have been there and that will eventually go.
It is unfortunate that others forget that the life we have today is thanks to the soldiers who fought for us and the ones whom continue to do so today.
Feel free to go over to Afghanistan and live in fear of beat, raped and tortured for your beliefs and then go cry about how horrible our troops are then

The military is one of the most secretive institutions in the world promoting a singular set of values that is constantly out of line with the values of the regular public.
Freedoms have only been won by regular people protesting and demanding change from their own government. Soldiers stand in the way of this, protecting the rich and the powerful for their own interests.

If you believe all of that, I have a bridge to sell you.
During protests against the Vietnam war, soldiers were used against their own citizens. Same with China during the Tiananmen protests. In Nazi Germany, soldiers were used to take away freedom not to give them.

Canada's troops = racist, ignorant, xenophobic, american-wannabees who kill Afghans and villages in their homes and then go home to brag about knocking off some "Hajis". They got whats coming to 'em. The truth hurts!!
We haven't ever killed Afghans purposely, and hell, i've only heard of two incidents that have resulted in civilian deaths ;) And you know what? it IS war, people die, it can't be avoided. It's not a nice fact, but a fact nonetheless.
Do you live in Canada? If you do, you're putting down the people that shed blood for EVERY SINGLE right you have. Hang your head in shame.
One of THESE particular troops was my brother. And I KNOW that he was not racist in anyway! Some of his best and closest friends were not caucasion. He loved to travel and meet people from all corners of the world, so I can be supported when I say he was not afraid of foreign people!
Canadians don't "wannabee" like Americans. We are a country who belives aiding those striving for a better life!
Nobody deserves to be killed, ESPECIALLY our troops who try to help civilians on foreign soil.
We're sure going to miss you Matt.

Some food for thought:
It's the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
It's the Soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
It's the Soldier, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It's the Soldier who salutes the flag, whoserves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.
