I was in Orlando, Florida for a Mariah Carey concert first time I ever heard her sing live. I was in the back row. But I come swear there was an angel on stage singing. She's the best female singer to come out of Britain since the legend that is Dame Shirley Bassey. Mariah has a strong voice but she shouts and gasps, whereas Leona has a softer tone but sounds far more controlled. Soft and controlled suits this particular ballad more than shrill and knock 'em down and out type of voice. Mariah throws her whole weight into this, which deletes the sad quality of how this song should be sung. Nilsson had it nailed.

Mariah is in her own league. No one has a higher octave than Mariah. Mariah Carey has a 4.5 close to a 5 octaves vocal range which only 5-6 singers has that much. In modern era, Mariah still is and after all an artiste no male or female can reach her octave (Brian McKnight has 4 Octaves but he sucks as singing) Leona is a great singer but there is not way to compare her with Mariah.
