great footage. when is ESPN going to show these highlights on a consistent basis. The wipeouts and potential for death and injury are far greater than the average NFL play. What sport besides rockclibming without a rope could be so punishing if one wrong move is made.

@orion2peter There's deep channels between the reefs. All that water coming in over the reefs goes back out through the channel. I watched that happen at Sunset Beach in Hawaii. It looked like a river flowing out to sea. Like super-massive undertow, carrying people's lost boards out to sea!

Last summer, I got stuck in a whirlpool. The waves were just this large or bigger and they just kept coming at me from every which way. I tried to get out, but the whirlpool kept sucking me farther and farther out into the ocean. I was out there for at least 15 minutes until the lifeguard could actually get to me. It was terrifying, a couple times I thought I was gonna die.
