No problemo! It's unclear in the manual... And just about everyone on YouTube or other places have it wrong! I actually just figured it out myself! Hope you didn't throw out any "bad" tubes! That's how I figured it out... A bunch of kt88's and 5751 "command" series worked great but tested off... I wasn't just gonna mark THEM bad! Good to second guess yourself on some stuff, Eh? Thanks for the Vid! We need more on this generation of hardware... Younger people don't realize where these m
On the Hickok 6000 series - you set the shunt to the value stated on the roll for a simple GOOD/BAD test. You set the shunt to the value posted on the roll - and it was in the green so it's good!
To get the actual Mut Conductance reading... set the shunt to the red-dot on the shunt knob.. there are three red dots on it... for the ranges shown on the meter.
0-3000
0-6000
0-15000
Since you are looking for 5000 uOhmos... use the second dot.
Great video. I have the same tester and it works great. Glad I read the comments because I didn't read the part about depressing both "test" an "gas" buttons either. I rebuild a lot of old tube amps and this makes life a lot easier.
Excellent video - truly excellent focusing and detail of the individual dials and areas. What I always wonder with the 6000a is that I feel like its a pretty conservative tester - as far as MC levels go. I find it rare to find a tube that greatly exceeds the standard MC/Shunt levels the roll chart tells you.
As regards the gas test, the manual clearly states that you do need to press both the "test" and "gas" buttons together to do a gas test.
I thought when you check for gas you hold the test & gas down at the same time?it says you read current but i don't see that on the meter scale. Confused??Help!!
@harperpap, It has been quite awhile since I used that tester, I think you only hold down the gas test button, nothing else, but first you have to check for shorts.
You have a great work shop. Please post some more testing stuff. Are you a Ham radio op? BTW, I have a 6000A too... my favorite tester! Reliable and accurate. Thanks!
i noticed it read transistors on the meter, does it test transistors as well?

Yes sometimes the comments from others can be very helpful, I should have read the manual more carefully.
