Look at v=A8I6Jrlhu_Y It's perfectly smooth, and at a higher resolution than you can get with the game cube. You just need a newer processor and graphics card.
@passionfearmisery running software that is "un-native" to its operating system is called an emulation, whether you like it or not. but still, wine stands for that xD
Emulator working on emulator... LOL. Seems to be working pretty good though. Even if that PC is a bit out-dated.
Well I prefer windows for this unless I can get my hands on some actual linux builds. I use both OS'es by the way. Linux is usually faster but wine takes it's portion of the cpu time too.
I would like to see some 4 thread build too as I have 4 cores. Would give some more speed. I don't know how the emulator works but if possible, it would be nice.
I always thought that WINE stands for Windows Emulator...
Do read WineHQ myths and wiki about emulators. Wine doesn't do any CPU emulation but it does emulate the interface and DirectX via OpenGL.
So it is an emulator but next time use ":D" or "hahaha" after that frace and everybody understand. Now make me understand that you did understand that already. :\
Yep. I know that already. Although not at the time I sent that last comment.
...
Just to be fun-free...
I still see it as an emulator though. Even if it isn't fully an emulator as we have learned to know the word "emulator". I see the word "emulator" as a program that allows programs made for other os'es to run on the same os as the emulator.
But yeah. I agree that it's technically quite different than most ot the emulators.
From what i've heard, Wine developer's created this name as "Wine is not an emulator" because as you said, it's not emulating another cpu, it's just x86 (or amd64) software running in a x86/amd64 cpu..
yes, it "translates" direct3D calls into opengl calls, but i don't think you can call the whole thing an emulator. :P
"Wine Is Not an Emulator" is an inside joke poking fun at recursive acronyms, and at the distinction between emulation & simulation. It use to be that emulation only referred to hardware emulation, while simulation referred to software emulation. Recursive acronyms use to be very popular in the hacker culture. GNU (as in GNU/Linux) actually stands for, "Gnu is Not Unix." That is where the name originated.
@DaweyYT Actually, it's been a while since ATI provides good proprietary drivers for Linux (you gotta at least have a newer card) .. I've got a 4870 too, works great.
woah im impressed i thuaght ubuntu cudnt run direct 3d is that what ur description is saying? im shocked! I didnt even knw a decent GC emu existed. Awesome. I have a 128mb card i doubt it'd be good for this but still awesome. :O
@mtothem93 yer... if your a 7 year old who would rather flappy windows and cheasy fire effects and flying planes that pop up everywear, "look mummy i can write my name on the desktop, amazing!! inovative!"., you would rather that than elegant pro looking smooth sleek glass effects.... then i guess it looks linux looks better ;)

hey i donwloaded resident evil 4 in like 5 parts what do i do with them they a rar files and i tried opening them with dolphin tried extracting although dont think i did it properly so what do i do with the 5 parts???
@DaweyYT, my experience with the native Linux version of Dolphin has been pretty positive. I can play TimeSplitters 2 at vsync without issues.. out of curiosity, I tested it under wine, and I do suffer a framerate drop, although it is minute (-5fps)... also, my sound is a bit choppy under wine, but I think that has to do with wine disliking alsa. If I used arts or esd, maybe pulseaudio, then I probably wouldn't hear pops & clicks.
Because until recently, all LCD panels in monitors are 60hz (or 59 - I can't recall if 60 is the true value or a convetional rounding) (It was only a few weeks ago that Samsung finally bought a 100hz panel to the PC monitor sector).
With the character limit I can't explain it fully, but basically your monitor can only show 60 FPS if you panel is running at 60hz. Any less than 60 FPS from the GPU, then you simply get a low FPS. Any more, and you get frame tearing. Char lmt - google frame tearing
It has really come a long way, most games didn't even get in-game up until not too long ago...I have a Gamecube but it would be really nice if emulation got as good as PS2 emulation is now so you can play the games at much higher resolutions.
How do you Oced your CPU? let me know with which program i need to Oc mine too ^^ i got the same CPU :)
